Let me start by saying that I don't own GTAIV and my father will not let me get it. So over the past year, I have been looking for a next gen sandbox game that has the same fun factor as the GTA series. So far I own Crackdown(decent), Crysis(Played it till my computer died), and Just Cause(flawed but fun). None of these had the same "feel" I get from playing GTAIV at my friends house. However, I looked into a game called Saints Row and was amazed at how it looked like GTA. Its 17.99 now and I want to know if its worth it. Also, does it have an online "Free Mode" like GTAIV?

Man you own all these others games but he won't let you have GTA4?
THATS WHAT THE MEDIA DOES TO PEOPLE!
-
GTAIV had a better story, dialogue, and characters... as well as a shit ton of atmosphere.... and although I'd take GTAIV over Saints Row... Saints Row is better than any GTA that came before it.
-
Your father must be a media controlled idiot if he will not let you get GTAIV, but lets you get all those games and Saints Row. Pretty much what everyone else has said.
I think you should print out this forum topic and show it to him.

Saint's Row is basically a more juvenile version of Grand Theft Auto... with better gameplay than Grand Theft Auto. A lot of features in Saint's Row (like multilayered map, full character customization, storing and saving cars that can be custom modified, dual analog first person style controls, and a full blown ingame mp3 player that can be played in the car and on foot) should have become industry standard and I was really disappointed to see them missing in GTAIV especially customizing vehicles and a music player (that was unacceptable god damn Rockstar).
The game is both horrendous and incredibly fun. As long as you know you're expecting an action game as envisioned by a 7th grader you'll have fun with it.

.... and by the way, Insurance Fraud is the best minigame ever.

yes. yes it is. I got up to a million bucks by diving right in front of a semi which caused a huge pileup and my character was wedged between two vehicles and racked up money like crazy. Jumping in front of a train is another good way to get mad points.

You should wait for Saint's Row 2 because that games gonna be packed with shit load more features.

The best ways are to be in a cop car since it adds a 4x multiplier automatically. There are certain ways to hit yourself.... and the best ways are to hit walls at a certain speed... hitting a certain sweetspot. 1m-6m was uncommon.... but doable with a certain amount of consistency. My brother though... he had something along the lines of negative 2.4 billion from a hit that kept him flying upwards until he died.
Yeah... we took turns doing the whole insurance fraud thing. Although cop car+ wall gave the most money, getting on the highways (especially in tunnels) and crashing/ jumping into semis was the most funnest. Especially when the pile ups are all dramatic like with 40 civilian deaths and such.

saints row is an awesome game altho the dialogue will make you cringe in a bad way (whereas gta4 will make you cringe in a good way???)
the minigames are a lot of fun though some are way too hard (lvl 6 drug deals)
also i cant wait for saints row 2 im gonna make the craziest vehicles

As with most of these sandbox games it's only as awesome as the shit you pull off. If you "play by the rules" so to speak it'll be boring as hell but if you do your thing it can be quite entertaining.

I would say that Saints Row is alot more fun than GTA4... but then I would get flamed. :(
-
Im still trying to get some $$, bout 1 more work day should do it! As for SR2, it might wait for that one instead...,but I don't know :/
-
i love you father.

Saint's Row is hilarious in my book, because it presents the gangsta lifestyle as if it was imagined by a thirteen year old white suburban kid.
-
Also the whole Tera Patrick Saints Row 2 developer blogs is really fucking hilarious.
If your father lets you buy SR2, that means you're buying a game produced by a porn actor, who also has a special appearance. That is must worse than the content of GTA4.
