I have been meaning to make a topic about this for some time now. It's a pretty interesting site that provides a test to show you(roughly) where you stand politically.

Here is a graph:

And here's another.

And here is where I stand.

I know tests like this aren't really that definitive but I really liked my results nonetheless and I also think they were pretty accurate!

Pretty much near the middle. A government should do whatever it needs to protect human life and make living comfortable.  Military advances support the economy and industry but aggressive expansion degrades moral and harms the environment.  The market should be regulated but corporations should be allowed the freedom to conduct their business in a respectable manner so long as it doesn't bring shame to the country they represent blah blah blah political views

I dont really align myself with any sort of political ideology, so the fact that I am a left leaning guy libertarian tendencies means nothing to me. I generally go about things with a common sense approach.

For example, I would rather see a child adopted by a loving and stable homosexual couple than have to live through the horrors of the foster care system. I dont see how marijuana is any different than alcohol, people use them for the EXACT same reasons. I want to know what the difference between the two substances really is in the eyes of the government, especially taking into account alcohol has never been considered medicinal ever unless you count as an anesthetic or an antibacterial agent as marijuana has been and alcohol is responsible for thousands of deaths every year where marijuana has been responsible for... well lets go out on a limb (while taking a page out of Bill Hicks's book) and say its a negligible amount.

So yeah, I guess I see how my feelings on other things (those were just two simple examples) fit into that ideology, but the fact of the matter is I operate on a 'HEY! What is going to make the lives of people everywhere better than worse?' basis. As far as school attendence and seatbelts and shit are concerned, however, if you don't want to comply thats your fucking problem man, I'm not cool with humankind being above natural selection as we currently are kinda teetering on the edge of as it is. Granted I'm not saying that human evolution is slowing or stagnating, actually the research shows human evolution increasing in rate (duh higher population -> more mutations -> faster evolution. a child could figure this out). But the things that we are going to great lengths to make sure the weak, the stupid and the ill survive, when they really shouldn't just infuriate me. So I guess that I am kind of a ruthless bastard, but hey, if you aren't going to help yourself, why should I help you?

yeah basically I have lots of thoughts running around in my head but it seems like I dont fall too far off the compass from everyone else so I guess its all good in the end anyway. I dont really think that theres going to be any major social/political change in this country any time soon so getting all fired up about shit is pretty much pointless.

I just think that if people arent willing to better themselves then why waste time trying to force them? if they dont get it then they dont get it*. too bad. if they died it would be better for the rest of us. in today's world, one less mouth to feed isn't hurting anything honestly (other than that human life obviously, but it probably wasnt worth much anyway and the energy that would have been expended on their behalf is better put to use doing something more productive)

Personally I feel that I'd probably be on the purple more then green. I think this mainly because I didn't feel very strongly at all about some of the questions, as in my answer should not have weighed much at all, then other questions I felt should heavily affect my score.  Essentially, I believe that this would be more accurate:

first off, your argument is stupid. you say that we should not go to lengths to help the "weak" survive because it's no use, and you try to justify this by suggesting that if someone is "weaker" than someone else, then it's their fault?

I'm quite close to "Libertarian" according to this poll, but I don't trust it as much as the image I showed before. (The questions were generally vague and had a few instances of "yes/no, but", "yes/no, if", et cetera.)

the phrasing on most questions seems pretty biased and the whole test just seems kind of like a spitshined FIND YOUR CRUSH test or whatever.  maybe that is just a failing of internet quizzes rather than just this one though!

One thing I wonder is, how could they find where all these political people stand on every single one of these questions? Like did the politicians take the test? I mean I am guessing not ALL of these people made their positions clear (precising wether they strongly agree or just agree) on all of these statements.

Like I said, there are homosexual people who were raised by heterosexual couples.
I am guessing that the opposite can happen just as much! Either way, it doesn't really matter. Sexual orientation is really not something that you can choose.
It kinda develops as you grow up.

What if the person is heterosexual and is given to a homosexual couple? Isn't that a bad environment to be brought up in?

Why would it not be similar to being raised by a single parent? I don't really know about this stuff so I'm not trying to start an arguement more like I am just looking for answers.

Your brain is not wired the same way when you are an infant and when you are a fully developed adult. That topic showed differences between fully developed adult brains.
I think that article was pretty much saying that some brains are more prone to be attracted to one sex or another. I might be wrong!

No, it was found out that homosexuals have different brains than heterosexuals. It did not prove that they were born with different brains.

There is no correlation whatsoever. Children that are raised by a homosexual couple don't have a higher chance of turning out homosexual themselves. This is a myth propagated by those against homosexual marriage, and it's long been dispelled by real-world experience from countries that have legalized adoption by homosexual partners.

No, the conventional understanding of left and right is what is bonkers.  Classically it refers to (as it does on this graph) to economics.  I.E. Socialism (left) vs. Free Market (Right).  Authoritarian vs. Libertarian refers to government's role on social issues and implementation of government policy.  Extreme authoritarians want the government to control everything, and extreme Libertarians want government to cease to exist. 

What is commonly thought of as the American right is a result of the marriage of free market economists with Christian and Moralist groups of a more authoritarian bent on social values.  This is a phenomenon that came out of Reagan's candidacy and was continued since in the Republican Party.  However when you are talking about the left and right it does not traditionally refer to regional politics, it refers to economics.
