What are your thoughts on the DS port for the greatest RPG in history?
The graphics haven't been updated much, but we can consider that a good thing.
What is Square planning to do with the Chrono series?
Is there a possibility Chrono Break in the distant future?
And why does Magus look like he's too cool to hang out with the other on that campfire scene?
Anyway,
Most likely features:
- Anime cutscenes from PSX version included
- Loading times not included
- Touch screen functions (Movement, battle)
- At least one new dungeon

What do I think? I think it's a cheap way for Square to make money by cashing in on a popular franchise. FF3, FFIV, and the upcoming Dragon Quest games are actual REMAKES (and the Dragon Quest games weren't released in America, atleast 5 and 6 weren't) but Chrono Trigger DS has, what, a single new dungeon and they colored Schala's hair blond to match her single appearance in Chrono Cross?
I can understand if you've never played the game before (despite, you know, roms and such but hey maybe you're a moral guy) but I've beat this 3000 times and I definitely won't be giving Square 40$ so I can beat it 3001 times.

Most of us could have made this port ourselves. A smaller number of us (but not by much) could have made a rom hack to include a new dungeon and the sprite change to the port. SE squashed a fan project [in ][/in] that took a shit ton more effort to get where it was before the team got the cease and desist order than this port would ever have needed.
What are my thoughts on the port of the greatest rpg in history? First of all, this is far from the greatest. Secondly... this is nothing but a cheap port. It's nothing of interest.

Schala has blonde hair? Where did you see that?

What kind of fan are you? Next thing we know you'll be asking "whose Serge" -_-

Dude I meant in CT DS. I haven't seen a single screenshot from CT with her having blonde hair, so where the hell did you see that? And about her CC version, there's alot of speculation on that.

I'd like to see more variety in the soundtrack... They reused a lot of the same songs over and over. Like, the one you hear for the first time in the church filled with monsters, you hear it again in the Mystic Village, then again on the mountain with the chain on it, then a few more times.
Then the one you hear in sewers is also used for when your climbing that one mountain to get the Masamune.
Then the Tyranno castle theme was also used for the place in 600 AD that was like, the ruins of Tyranno castle, which is understandable, but I would like to hear maybe a remix that sounds more like a cave theme.
Though I highly doubt we'll see any new songs in CT DS. Some arrangements would be nice though.
Edit: Also, I do understand that this was due to limited cart space and stuff, but now they have tons of extra space on the DS cart. I'd love to hear Mitsuda make some new renditions on some old themes.

:fogetgasp: :fogetgasp: :fogetgasp: :fogetgasp:
THEY"RE REMAKING A MEDIOCRE 10 YEAR OLD RPG WITH TOUCH SCREEN FEATURES AND MAYBE A NEW DUNGEON??
Square this new approach is really cool! Please apply this formula to every mildly successful rpg you've ever released on an older console!
-
have you not been paying attention? thats what they HAVE been doing.
-
Well who really cares... CT is an awesome game and its awesome for portable. You can play it anywhere together with your pals.

I play it on my PSP.
You can also play it on your DS now through homebrew.
But uhh yeah, I said my thoughts about this in the last topic. I'm not buying this, because this will be nothing like FFIV DS was. That game is what a remake SHOULD be, but this is not. This could be Square trying to revive the Chrono series with this release, but I don't care, they could have done a better job than this.
Chrono Resurrection....
-
Yeah but does it have multiplayer? Does it have touch screen functions? Sure it's not much, but hell, they're touching it for the first time in 13 years. At least they haven't forgotten it.
And please let me just clear up that Chrono Resurrection was never intended to be a full Chrono Trigger remake. It was just supposed to be a remake of the author's favorite scenes from Chrono Trigger.

We've had the same discussion in the other CT DS thread as we appear to be starting here. There are a few die hard fans that will be buying this game because they are instantly in love with anything Chrono Trigger. Then there's the rest of us that see this game for what it is; nothing more than a port with touch screen capabilities. Neither side seems to be able to get their point across, mainly because the discussions have mainly been:
"Guys, it's Chrono Trigger... ON THE DS"
"...And?"
Oh, and the extra dungeon probably won't even be something they had to create because I'm guessing it'll just be Singing Mountain. (They also might include the unused music tracks). I'm sure this port took one (maybe two) people at SE a week or less to slap together.
Edit: If you want to see what I'm talking about then just check out the other CT DS topic. (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=6701.0)
