Street Fighter Alpha 3 GW Olympics Tournament - GO FOR BROKE!


Registration is from August 24th, 2008 - August 28th, 2008.

Bracket will be posted on August 29th, and players are to meet up in #capcom/other messengers to get their matches in. You are responsible for working with your opponent to get your match in.

Registration Notes:
When you register just post saying you want in, and the country you are from.

Tournament Notes:
Because there could be server issues and this isn't going to be a group tournament played at one time, we're not going to use GGPO.

Instead, we'll be using nFBA. You can download the emulator nFBA here: http://kaillera.movsq.net/stable/nfbadtr9u1.exe and install it. This includes the netplay which is Peer 2 Peer and near lagless at good connections.

Due to legal issues I can't link you to SFA3, but you can google it. We are going to be using Street Fighter Alpha 3 (980904 Euro). If you can't find it, I can link you if you PM me, of course.

Tournament Play:
All characters are allowed including the secret ones. (codes to play as these characters are below)

Tournament is double elimination.

Each match is to be played best 2 out of 3 matches.

Loser's finals are best 3 out of 5 matches.

The final match is best 4 out of 7.

If your matches don't happen shortly (a couple days of so) after an updated bracket being posted, one of you might be DQ'd so make it happen.

SFA3 probably has the most mainstream appeal and I think it's the most user friendly, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I am mostly just polling just to make sure. I've been thinking ST or SFA3 really. It's been a loooong time since SFA3 and I know people like Chef have it too.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter III: Third Strike would be best probably because well I don't know I just like them two more than the other two although Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo ain't bad.

I'd prefer SSF2T, but I'm fine with SFA3 as well.

I'll just participate in this without having done any practicing for about two years or so and see how far I come.

i wish more fighting games had a million characters like street fighter alpha 3. it doesn't even matter if they're balanced or anything, i just like games with a million guys.

when i first read this post i didn't check the links to see that the first video is actually pretty bad, like a lot of those simple "setups" aren't setups at all and can be teched out of, and the shit in the second video is really fucking hard to do so I wouldn't worry about that, the third video i can't say much just that ryu's vc's are only all that effective in the corner and he is pretty popular in all isms.

yeah sfa3 isn't that bad goat come on guy.

Alright, we had a tie of 14 votes in 2 games (which does no one good as running 2 tournaments in the same thing is kinda loco). I've changed the vote this time down to both games that tied, you each get 1 vote, and you can't change it. If there is a tie which ever game has the most mod votes wins. Consider this a tie breaker.

I'm not sure exactly how good you are at fighting games, but it really isn't as easy as it might seem. You really should make no mistake about that. I've played this somewhat intensively for about a year or so and made attempts at learning V-ism combos, but some are quite difficult to (consistently) nail, especially when you add a bit of variable lag into the mix. The most damage I ever did with a combo is around 60%, but that was exceptional.

To put it shortly, you really aren't going to be able to use the V-ism mode unless you're a hardened veteran who's specialized himself in one of the characters.

That's a point, if anyone wants to (it takes like 5 seconds ok), in the p2p window, hit "record this game", and it'll record all your inputs. people can then send those to me and I can record the matches.

What the heck is that whole left side of the bracket? I understand that the winners advance to the right but... If the losers keep having matches then, well, I'll just stop when I lose my first match up, haha.

ok i beat mog but you have to use port 27015 to play him. this is really easy just go to the left most tab and enter 27015 when playing him, 27886 when you're not, and load the game.

I beat him 2-0 with Dan Hibiki cause I'm hardcore like that. Expect vids of the humiliation sometime later.

Man-O-War and I have been unable to play our match.  For some reason, the designated emulator's online functionality did not work.  We then subsequently decided to try Kawaks/Kaillera, which uses servers (such that port forwarding wouldn't matter) but it turned out that Man-O-War could not connect to any of them (in fact, he couldn't even send tracert or ping commands to them because his school network is blocking them or something).

So yeah, how are we gonna resolve this?  Take a wild guess?  Flip a coin?

Thing is that the guy couldn't even traceroute anything, much less connect to my server.  I successfully host a webserver but he couldn't connect to my Kaillera.  I don't care either way though, I'll go to the losers' bracket and kick some ass there.
