How will this be recorded? Fraps?a lot of emulators have an recording device built it so that probably wont be a problem, at worse we will need a special version of the emulator
and questions like that... etc.
The first level on that video, I'm pretty sure it's the level from Dada's old avatar. You say that, knowing I'm going to participate?
Does it need to be done on an emulator?Yes, unless you're able to get a digitized recording from a real console, but it's by far more convenient to just use an emulator.
Are there ways of checking for TASing etc?To explain: a TAS is a so-called "tool-assisted speedrun". Basically, a speedrun made with various "tools" inside the emulator to assist you, such as slowing down the game or using save states. It's not possible to be 100% certain whether an emulator recording was made with such tools, since they always play back at regular speed.
Will we be told what emulators are best for recording/etc or are we all expected to be experts in the art of speed runs?I can tell you guys which emulator you should use as soon as the game has been decided on. There's virtually only one good recording emulator for every platform.
Please god not a Megaman the levels are so stupid long. The levels of Mega Man 2 should be about 1.5 - 2 minutes on average, it's not that bad.

Doing Blue's Journey would just be epic.
The whole game!I propose we do Heat Man's level after having beaten Air Man, Quick Man, Flash Man and Bubble Man. I'll provide a save state. Heat Man should take about 2 minutes to complete, but it's not a very difficult level and part of it is just riding one of the special items.
Man, if we want to do something a bit more obscure which no one has tried to speedrun yet, maybe Plop for SNES. I don't actually remember anything about it though, it's been years since I played it but I remember it was a pretty kickass game.......You mean Plok?
Not sure if it's that fitting for speedrunning since I don't remember much about it.
Also no Mega Man 2 since Dada will rape everyone eyes closed. :(
Okay! Added a poll with the levels I dug up from the topic. You forgot to add Super Mario Bros. 3, first two warp whistles. This should take about 2 minutes to complete.
I have to vote for BM's Dynamite Headdy Stage 1. I mean, look at it.
Man it's kinda gay that megaman got chosen because it's obvious who is going to be best at it and this isn't really fair.
I'll still enter it's just blegh
also the boss is retardedly easy you can beat him in like 20 seconds with just your buster, no hits taken.Keep in mind that you have some weapons. Use Bubble Lead against him. If I recall correctly, he only takes 4 hits of that.
I updated the scoreboard *pow*.
Also, please don't post about how you did, as you might discourage others from making an attempt.
Btw are you somehow gonna get the PRECISE time from the EXACT start of the level to the death of heatman? Like is there a way? I know I have like 5+ seconds of shit that isn't even part of the run there like boss/stage intros and shit.Yeah, I knew this was going to come up but we'll get up a proper score for the run.
Yeah, I knew this was going to come up but we'll get up a proper score for the run.I sent you a PM about this, by the way.

Hey, I'm just wondering, is it possible that the runs are, by the runners permission, given to other people in and out of the competition to see? Like I'm interested to see how others did some of the shit in the level, OR is like COMPROMISING SPEEDRUN SECRETS??Well I won't be disallowing it, but then I won't be distributing them to other people. So if you want to go ahead and give/take from other contestants then it's down to you dawg.
If yes then mine can be shown to whoever and I'm interested too see how DeadPhoenix performed ingame.
The part where you have to use the disappearing blocks to jump over walls near the end slows me down :(Use the Item-2. Create one right in front of the wall you need to cross, and then you can just jump right over it.
I'm nearly satisfied about my run.Well noone needed to know that. I think everyone was warming to a scoreboard without "Dada" etched on it.

Wait.
Doesn't that make it count as tool-assisted?
I remember last year we couldn't do that with the speedrun compet!
By the way here is a PRO TIP. To prevent having to constantly make a new movie file, just press "save state" right after you start recording, then press "load state" in case you do something wrong. It will bring you back to the beginning and erase what's happened, allowing you to try again.
Man... I wish I would have known this sooner. Having to constantly remash all of these buttons at the start of every attempt ruined it for me.yeah me too :(

actually sir i am from the great land of canadaWhich is part of America you silly Canadian : |
Wait.Actually, last time we held the competition (Raziel was the one running it back then, I think) it was judged that having a non-zero rerecord count was okay, as long as the save states were used at the beginning of the level. People are kind of expected not to use it to cheat. I would have put it in the lead, but I only just realized I forgot to mention it.
Doesn't that make it count as tool-assisted?

I would be trying this if it weren't for the disappearing blocks part that has haunted my dreams since my childhood. That's why we're using Item-2 to avoid them completely.
