I applied to the University of MD College Park campus last week and I was wondering how hard it really is to get in. I applied as a transfer student. I'm entering my sophomore year of college next week at a community college in-state. Last semester I had a 4.0 GPA and a 3.0 for the year. My SAT scores were like 1440 on the new SAT so they are less than stellar but I don't know if they matter or not for transfers. I'd be going in the Fall 2009 school year, so I'm going to keep my GPA up this year and probably join Phi Theta Kappa (International Honors Society) and that might help.
Anyone know how long it takes to get the results from the application, if you have to pay the $55 fee before getting results or if it's that hard to get in.

I'm going to Towson, and the system here is pretty much the same as there. If you got a degree from your community college, you're guaranteed acceptance into any state college in Maryland (at least, that's how my community college worked. Frederick Community College is highly respected among the four-year schools). Your GPA is high, and it sounds like your SAT is pretty good, so you might even get a nice scholarship.
Maryland colleges are pretty fucking easy to get into. I've only got a year left at Towson, but I'll have two degrees, so that'll be cool.
Expect a month or three for them to respond. I don't remember paying a fee to send an application for my school, but then again I don't really remember how I got there in the first place.

Hey yeah how does this work for colleges in general? I'm gonna be getting a degree from my community college in two semesters and then I want to go to a four year (probably Northern Illinois University) but my ATC was bad and my GPA is like 3.0!

I'm not sure how it works there so I can't say much! Here in IL I do not think it is guaranteed acceptance into any state college (well not GUARANTEED 100% anyways), so maybe this is state related?? idk.

shit, i didn't know you were going to towson. that's where i went. small world. what are you studying out there?
-
shouldn't they have replied already? the colleges here are opening for the semester, it sounds like you're applying way late.

Communication Studies with a minor in Creative Writing. Comm studies is pretty boring for the most part, but I really like the rhetoric portions of it (odd because that used to be what sucked about the major up until I had the greatest teacher I've ever had).
What did you study?

YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A JOBR.
also i am number 1 hundley fan and i think he studied english and film.

yeah most colleges require a decision (at least the ones I know of) require a decision to go there for the upcoming semester by like May or something

Didn't he also breifly look into science fiction writing or something?
-
if he did it doesn't matter since that's not a degree.
is it one in britain or something?
-
quite possibly, I think there's a degree for anything and everything these days.
-
not really. I mean, Women's/Gender Studies is probably the last degree most universities added.

I applied for the Fall 2009 school year which is 2009-2010.
-
oh wow, you can apply this early for that?
it'll take a bit of time to hear from them then, but you'll probably get in on account of applying so early!
