Hoolllly crap, immunity to HIV and AIDS. This is big, because we can find the DNA or whatever that is creating those proteins in women, and test blood, etc etc etc, and hopefully eventually make a vaccine from it, or at least help prevent it.

This is probably one of the biggest finds of the past year easy. Go kenyan whores!

In your lazy link the word "immune" or "immunity" does not appear.  They're not IMMUNE, they're just possibly resistant in the vagina....  Don't get your hopes too high because before you know it the virus will probably go through a massive mutation.

Well If this woks All pregnant Women will likely be injected with a needle of the vaccine to vaccinate her and her child, and also others who are already alive who want it will be aloud to get it too. I'm wondering though, If you get this said vaccine would you be able to run like a Kenyan ?

It's not disappointing (well as in HO HUM NOT NEW) if you guys took 2 seconds to read Mama Luigi's link and then mine, they thought it was their genetic makeup awhile back, but now they know (or rather, suspect, but it's something that's pretty ABNORMAL so it's most likely something related to this) it's proteins in their vaginal secretions! This is an update to the long ago thing!

There is no cure for the gay immoral sex disease wakka wakka.

personally, I don't think they'll ever find a vaccination or injective cure for aids or cancer... sometimes that's just the way things work. Maybe in the way distant future but not anytime soon. What we're doing with stuff like this now is just babysteps to still learn to understand these diseases, which we haven't figured out completely at the most complex level.

I can't name one well known disease (outside of STI's and some cancers, obviously.), that hasn't been cured by vaccination or injections? You're basically saying that you don't think we'll never ever have contact with aliens. It's only a matter of time. Maybe it won't happen next year, or 5 years from now, or 10 years from now, or 100 years from now, or hell, even 1,000 years from now, but eventually it is bound to. This is still a really important step towards that, but it's going to happen some time, it's just a matter of when that time is.

No, this is not great news.
Several strategies have been developed over the years for combatting the AIDS virus. The problem is that, as a retro-transcripting virus, it's mutation potential is enormous. Eventually the AIDS virus can overcome a vaccine or whatever.

Also, immunity to AIDS is not something particularly new, there is a mutation of the gene that encodes the CCR5 receptor, called CCR5-Δ32, this variant is missing 32 base pairs in its sequence, and this leads to a disfunctional receptor to which CCR5 cannot bind, so the strains of HIV that use CCR5 as a co-receptor cannot infect these cells. Of course, this brought some other secondary effects like increased vulnerability to other diseases.

I had heard from this years ago too, It's not really news. And I think we will find a cure for this, I personally know quite a few people who have HIV and I can only wish a cure is found before they start having serious health problems. We have to take into consideration that it's a relatively new virus (I think it has around 25 years or so) so there is still plenty of time to make more discoveries and hopefully have a cure and a vaccine.
on the other hand things for people with HIV are a LOT better now, compared to before, I know some people that got the disease in the 80's and are still alive and kicking, after 20 years! that wasn't a possibility before...

Yes it is, apparently they've found out (after testing) now that there's stuff in their vaginal fluids (extra proteins) than the average woman.

Really makes me wonder how us guys would be able to get a vaccine or something if its vaginal fluid proteins or something.

Yeah, this. With this protein, it'd be great to treat HIV...and I don't think anyone would wait for the cure. But anyways, haell yeah Kenyan 'working women!'

My brother's father-in-law is an infectologist specialized in AIDS... And from what he's told me... Nowadays, with proper treatment, people do not die from HIV, period.


Also, genes would indeed be responsible for the proteins. Now... I always take these articles with a grain of salt until I've read a research paper on the matter, because dude... No one human is equal to another, in fact... If you knew how antibodies and immune cells are made (I mean, in a living organism), you'd say "WTF"

So, unless I could get more info on what kind of proteins they are, if they're enzymes, if they're inmunoglobulins, etc... I'm taking this with a grain of salt. Cures for cancer/AIDS/diabetes are discovered every other day... I mean it.

Quoting my Molecular biology teacher... "We are, right now... In this campus' lab, capable of curing type-1 diabetes in mice; now, for that to work on humans?..."
