A lot of people want Soul Calibur 4 to come to the Wii, but I think it's a good decision that it didn't come to a Wii. If it did, it would probably be an extremely watered down version, compared to the 360 versions and such. First you'd have to say goodbye to 1 of either 2 things, either character customization or customized characters having endings. But yeah, I could live with the later being taken away or them making some completely new ending that doesn't actually SHOW the customized character.
The reason customized characters having endings on a Wii version like they do on the 360 wouldn't work, is because SC4's cutscenes are real-time. Now if a Wii version was made, Namco Bandai would probably end up converting all the endings for regular characters into FMV's. After all, the character roster isn't humongous and endings as FMV's are something that even PS2 fighting games could do. However, this couldn't be done with custom characters, unless EVERY single outcome was made into an FMV file. And god knows the Wii's graphics can't handle running the cutscenes in real time, with the same quality as the PS3 and 360 versions.
Now online COULD be retained if a Wii version was made, so that's not a problem. It would depend on if Namco Bandai wanted to put the work in to include it. And obviously, the graphics would have to be WAAAAAY watered down compared to the other next gen versions.
So basically a Wii port of Soul Calibur 4 would possibly mean...
- Watered down graphics.
- Possibly no endings for custom characters.
- Possibly a few things taken out to save memory.
- Possibly character endings being FMV's and not real time.
Otherwise as far as I'm concerned, they can do a good port of SC4 to Wii.

You raise a lot of good points Arnold.

I disagree Arnold. SC4 for the Wii. SC4 for the Wii. I would buy it. I would buy a copy for my friend. I would play it. I would download armor. I would fight online with the motion controller. I want SC4 for my Nintendo Wii. Nice try kid.
The graphics would probably be better, just smaller. I bet it would look good. The controls would be fun. I would swing a sword at my friend. I would watch all the endings in high def.
PS That YuGiOh parody is childish and not very funny.

man the wii is a horrible piece of tech and i laugh at everyone who bought one thinking about shit like INNOVASHUN. i told the world 2 years ago that the wii is going to lose all of its staying power midway through the cycle when developers actually push the power of current gen technology and it came true. the only thing to look forward to on the wii is nintendo 1st party games and the occasional decent VC/wiiware release.
of course nintendo successfully captured the millions of people who hate video games with a system designed for people that hate video games. nintendo: marketing geniuses.

i know man, the wii has a shit library(the only nextgen console i own is a wii), theres only like 2 good games for it(Mario Galaxy and Opoona).
how naive i was to think that the wii could be a console that would have tons of great games on it with accurate controls, when it turned out that the wii is just some gamecube that your grandma can play with an equally(if not worse) library.
I want a 360... and soul calibur 4...

man wii was exciting at first because of the whole YEAH YOU CAN CONTROL A SWORD AND SHOOT GUNS AND SHIT but all it's really just "ok tilt the controller and press the button"
-
If you think about it this way, SC4 would still look pretty good. We are talking about the franchise that was ahead of it's time when it was out on the Sega Dreamcast. I highly doubt they would disappoint if they did port it to the Wii, but they better damn well put online play if they do.

Yeah, what they really need to do is actually do this shit rather than half-ass it like you said.

the new 1:1 controller attachment soon to be released might give a little more gas for the developers who care about making decent games but i wouldn't hold your breath. the controller should have been like that day one and the hardware is a joke. on topic, i don't care about SC4 very much but the hardware is too different to make it on all three systems without going to ridiculous lengths to get the game working how it should. i think if nintendo would have offered reasonable hardware for what they were selling at this wouldn't be as much as an issue. marcus elaborates on this pretty well too.

Wasn't it already confirmed SCIV wouldn't come to the Wii and that they would they Soul Calibur Legends (which i believe is out) instead?
-
The wii could barely do SCII's graphics, so it would definitely look horrible in comparison to even SCIII. I don't think they would use the endings as FMVs because that would take more memory, when they could just keep it in-game rendering as it had been, and it would look as horrible as everything else was during the match.
-
The bonus character would obviously be R2D2, which would be awesome. I mean think about it. PS3, Black, Darth Vader. 360, Green, Yoda. Wii is white and shiny. R2 would be perfect.
Also, about the cutscenes. Anything they did in SCIII, they could do in a SCIV port. SCIII was on the PS2, and it had real time cutscene endings. Real time cutscenes aren't intensive at all. They're actually much easier than FMV's.
They COULD make a wii version. The hardest part would be down-grading the graphics and not making them look like total shit, since they won't want to completely redo them.
But they won't make one, anyway, because there's no real reason to.

I swing the sword at my friend and he blocks it with a shield on a Wii. Online with a friend code. I love it! Semper games!

the new 1:1 controller attachment soon to be released
When I bought a Wii I complained to WIP that the motion detection was kind of bad and laggy etc and he was all like YOU ARE STUPID. Now that there is an upcoming attachment that basically adds functionality that was promised in the first place I feel ripped off (even though I guess I won the petty internet argument) :(
Anyway SC4 could be ported to Wii just fine like what the hell man?
