Yeah, I pulled a muscle in my side today lifting something heavy and twisting the wrong way. I keep getting spasms and it hurts like fucking fuck. I took two tylenol and a perkaset and i have a heating pad on it but it still hurts. Any suggestions on what else to do to ease the pain?
-
booze
-
you fuckos dont fucking learn, spend 12 hours in front of the screen watching that hungarian pushing up stupid lifts to bend elbow to unusual positions
-
I read that as "I fucked and pulled a muscle". Oh and except booze.. hmm.. try thinking about something else..?
-
If it hurts after tonight, go to the doctor. Seriously, what else do you want us to say?
Ice packs, or maybe IceHot or whatever the heck its called. Oh yeah, and stretch that out just a bit. It'll hurt like more fucking fuckity fuck fuck ficken but it's supposed to help.
-
rapid exercises and movements will shake it back to normal
-
take as many laxatives as you can fit into your stomach
it will help i promise
-
Go see a doctor, is important.
-
It's going to suck for about 3-5 days... but if it doesn't subside then yeah, see a doctor.
-
hammer a nail into your toe, it will take the muscle pain away for a while.
-
read some of mark's posts that'll help take the pain out
EDIT:
For real tho, give it a few days, if it doesn't heal up go to the doctor.
-
I haven't had much experience pulling muscles except the one time I had a stint carrying boxes and shit. But they always cleared up after like 2 or 3 days. How long have you had it?
Also fuck you. I'm about to pee out a razorblade any day now
-
Relax the muscle. Take a hot bath, make sure it doesn't get cold. Massage it. That's about all you can do. If the pain stays for longer than it should (a few days at most), go see a doctor.
-
deep heat. cover your body in deep heat. deep heat is what that guy from the movie 'wanted,' you know that bath thing he takes? yeah deep heat is what that guy was bathing in. it will heal your bones back together.

A razorblade, huh? Hey strangeluv maybe you don't have kidney stones, maybe you have a very refined case of what that indonesian chick has in this thread:

Good luck, man. As long as you don't screw park benches, I'm sure you'll be alright.

Ok, first off, do you have any of the following symptoms:
- Severe pain
- Obvious fracture (bones stick out or make grating sound)
- Joint deformity
- Inability to bear weight on an injured limb
If you do then I'll have to refer you to a physician. If not, then continue reading.
Since it's been less than 2 days since the injury, you should follow the RICE regimen + an internal analgesic (which you've already taken, so good!)
Rest - You'll want to immobilize the muscle for at least the first 24 hours.
Ice - You'll want to apply something cold (icepack, bag of frozen vegetables, etc) to the muscle to reduce local blood flow and limit the swelling. Don't put the icepack directly onto your skin - cover it with a cloth so that you don't freeze your skin. Apply it for 10-30 minutes at regular intervals throughout your day.
Compression - If you compress the affected muscle by applying an elasticized bandage to it for at least the first 24 hours this can reduce the swelling further
Elevation - This probably doesn't apply to you since it's the side of your body, but for future reference if you elevate the injured area above your heart this helps to drain fluid and reduce swelling.
After 2 days when the initial swelling subsides, that's when you can go to heat therapy to increase blood flow to the area, providing a greater local supply of nutrients, oxygen, antibodies, leukocytes and enzymes to help heal the area. You can apply the heat for 20 to 30 minutes, every 2-4 hours as needed.
Your symptoms should resolve in 14 days. If they don't, then see a physician.

It's doing better today, but it still hurts. I can't really move around a lot or lift anything super heavy. I kept a heated rice sock on it last night and that really helped. The pain subsided around 3 am and it's been alright since.

Fuck pulled muscles indeed. I have a chronic shoulder injury and every couple'o months I pull the muscle and it hurts like hell. Mateui's advice is fantastic and is what professional sports physios use (assuming Mateui isn't one!)
How far up your side is it? hopefully not as high as the ribs.
-
It's like from the middle rib down to the waistline. And Mateui did have great advice. By the way I did this yesterday. I lifted a 42lb case of water and twisted to set it down and that's when it happened. It didn't feel too good at all.
-
My guess is that you also better eat enough proteïns.

I'm not a physio, but I am currently in year 3 out of 4 in Pharmacy, studying to be a pharmacist.

I have to ask, are you aware that it's much healthier and easier to lift/set things down with your legs and not your back? It sounds like your using your back to lift heavy objects, which I gotta tell yah weakens the ligamnets in your back slowly each time until they'll eventually give in.
I do think that you should stretch your muscles out more, stiffness increases the chances to get cramps.

Forget the pain. Drink some water.
