Title: Trackmania on the DS
Post by: xanque on September 15, 2008, 04:47:54 pm
Finally, I have a reason to be glad I have a DS.  Trackmania, a solid and extremely customizable racing game on the PC, is coming to the DS.  It looks very similar to Trackmania Nations, but it looks like it has even more options.  Videos showed tracks in the desert as well as in the stadium, and claim that there are over 100 pre-made tracks in this game.

That, on top of the ability to create your own tracks, makes it an extremely ambitious project for the DS.  I honestly don't know how they managed to fit all of that into the game, plus pretty good graphics.

I love Trackmania, and the DS is the perfect platform for the game.  It looks like you use the touch screen to make the tracks (all in beautiful 3D, with loops and other crazy shit), and the directional pad for the racing.

Check out the screenshots:

How the fuck did I not know about this game until now?

It's a shame it isn't quite up to the PC version because handheld Trackmania would be cool.

The paid version has like 4x that amount of stuff

Looks like a portable version of United.

Any idea if there will be AI to race against?

Does look like a portable United

Infact it looks like a portable United with graphics hugely toned down, but that's it.

I can see it happening.

And there'll probably be bronze/silver/gold/staff medal ghosts UPRC

Just like there has always been

...I guess?

I've never paid for a Trackmania game, so I don't know how much I'm missing out on.  I've been very happy with the amount of stuff in TM Nations, so if the DS version has even more, then that makes it even better!

I don't think Trackmania ever had AI... I think the makers just did the racing themselves.

You're missing out on quite a bit, yeah. This just looks like a dumbed down version of Trackmania United (Forever).

And AI.. Well, I guess you never know. This will obviously reach a more mainstream audience and the reviews for Trackmania DS will, initially, probably be viewed more than reviews of the PC versions. I like Trackmania more without AI (since I am a seasoned player, I guess), but a mainstream audience who has never played Trackmania might be confused by a handheld racer with no AI.

We'll see, I suppose.

Isn't it quite silly to be hyped about a paid game for a series that you've never paid for, yet if you paid, probably less than for what the DS game will cost, you'd get much more?

EDIT. And you can't seriously call that "beatiful 3D", at least to me it looks pretty shit.

I don't know rami, there are some very cheap DS games out there even when they are brand new.

Isn't Trackmania United Forever like 20-30 bucks nowadays too, though?

Well I like playing Trackmania, but only my PC can run it.  If I had it on a portable machine, I could play it anywhere I wanted.

I often never get games I get hyped about anyway.  It's very possible I won't pick this up until a year or so after it comes out, if ever.   I'm mostly just excited that a game for the DS is actually looking promising.

They need a TM for consoles. Slap an EA sticker on the box and it'll sell.

19,99$ CDN in retail shops so yeah

should be RIDICULOUSLY cheap

also that price was like 4-5 months ago when i bought it

also maybe ea would ruin it what do you know

i'm actually surprised this is coming out on ds (rather was when i first heard about it)

because trackmania is really just made by this small french team (Nadeo)

i think it's the only game they have made too
