Title: How Many Of You ACTUALLY Listen To Your Soundtracks For Your Games?
Post by: Brent Murray on September 22, 2008, 09:31:13 pm
A bit of a topic discussion, considering I haven't made a topic in awhile. But today I just realized this as I get ready to go to work and charge up my MP3 player with all my songs for my game's soundtrack...how many people listen to their soundtracks?

Do you? I mean...music is music, but some people use it to get some inspiration, chill out, or set them into the mood of game making. If you do listen to it...do you feel embarrassed about listening to it on the way to work? Or on you car's stereo? Or even playing it in the house?

Does it inspire you? Does it make you want to work harder? What does it do if you listen to it?

If not...why?

---

I have been listening to my soundtrack for the past 12 weeks now, I love every single song and still can't stop listening to them! They aren't getting old anytime soon. It's a mix of jazz / new age so it's more calming then anything, but it's nice to listen to it at night or on the way to work. I'm not embarrassed at all! They are all good songs. ^^

It does set me into the mood as I come home, and gives me some ideas.

Not sure if this topic will get locked or anything. But I thought I would ask this out. So once again...how many of you listen to your songs?

...Yes? Who doesn't?

If you mean while driving going to work or something, I just listen to whatever I feel like listening to.
You should have expanded on this. A "Do you listen to your game music" is a stupid question, because obviously everybody who makes a game does.

Well I didn't know that. I always assumed most people would be like: Listen to my own game music on the way to work / school!? YOU KIDDING!? I'LL BE BEAT UP FOR THAT!!!

I don't listen to MY game music, cause for one thing, there are very FEW of them, (like 3) and secondly, doesn't your soundtrack have to be original to be a soundtrack in the first place?

Unless by "your soundtrack" you mean "ffvictory.mid"?

If it's not original, it's not _your soundtrack_ It's just music you ripped from another game and on your mp3player it's just another track.

This isn't anything directly related to actual game development so I guess I'll move this to... Music?

If the songs aren't original, then they're just a bunch of songs you placed in a game because you figured people that play this game should like these tracks?

How is this much different from, say, a mixtape? And who doesn't listen to mixtapes they put together?

I do.  I mean, if you  can't listen to your game soundtrack, then why did you choose those songs to be in the game to begin with?

I used this ( http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=33548 ) in a game and it's so cool I like it so much I'm listening to it right now

I don't listen to the midis, but occasionally I listen to the MP3s.
