For those of you who don't know. Our childhood has been officially erased. Cartoon Network cancelled Toonami as of last Saturday. Even though it's been nothing but shit after they took One Piece off the air, it still holds a place in my heart as the ONLY thing I watched in my younger years.
Discuss. Glad it's gone? BAWWW that it's gone? Remember fond moments?
-
Toonami has been shit since 2001 or so.
-
glad it's gone, after the DBZ episodes were done it was pretty much worthless crappy kid animes.
when did dbz finish in america? like 2000? should've ended 8 years ago.
-
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
-
anyone getting emo and butthurt over this is simply a newfag BAWWWWWing at their complete lack of knowledge of, and taste in anime.
heh, what are they afraid to lose? totally spies, teen titans, code lyoko? yeah...I'll stick to REAL anime, thank you very much.

Pretty much, at this point it's like euthanasia.
-
toonami always sucked and I DUNNO ABOUT YOU but i was like 13 in 1997 i was out trying to get handjobs not watchin cartons lol
-
Yeah, I remember when it came out I thought it was really freakin dumb. I liked that channel that played all OLD SHIT though like Honk Kong Phooey and Top Cat.

I was 7 so toonami was p. good
but yeah it's basically been braindead for about 8 years now and this is just the official death where they pull the plug and have a certificate

-
yay
-
idc as long as they keep showing samurai jack
-
man even i used to watch this back in the day
what was that show, tenchi/u or something like that?
-
Tenchi Muyo? I remember toonami from when I was younger, bacck when It shouwed a few decent shows[they ][/they] but, it's long overdue for a death.
-
all the girls in my class watched tenchi muyo, I just remember it being a guy and some girls palling around, they couldn't turn super saiyan though.
-
i remember watching like, sailor moon, g-force, gundam wing, and dbz i think when it first came out. i kind of always hated that toonami robot though, so it's all good.
-
Toonami died for me the moment they gave Moltar the boot.
That's all I have to say about that.
-
rip dragonball z

I would if I could, into lots of pieces.

This.
DBZ was the most awful anime I have watched. The animation and art style was absolute shit and the story was staler than fuck.
-
Well maybe if you watched DBZ when you were 8-12 like you were supposed to!
And don't tell me you did, because nobody would notice a shitty story and terrible animation/art style when they're 8-12. Unless they are some kind of super anime conneissuer(don't know how to spell that shit).
It's your fault for not watching DBZ at the appropriate age.
-
My friends got into DBZ when we were 17. I never saw the appeal other than rather muscly men ripping their clothes off and grunting like a T rex engaging in coitus with a military frigate.
Only one anime has ever really interested me and that was Cowboy Bebop. I think I am too old to appreciate it now.

Finally.
-
Toonami was part of your childhood?
You guys missed out on the real great cartoons.
-
Toonami went from having teenage anime to having kiddish anime like the butchered english dub of naruto. I missed the old days where cool anime like Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, and Gundam Seed(i wish they finished some of these that were mentioned). They just went downhill after that, and the only time it truly shined recently was when they aired the funimation dub of one piece but due to "explicit language" and what not, they removed it. I think it should take a nap, but the reason they shut it down was because they ran out of shows. Here would be my solution: Put shows from Toonami Jetstream like Mar(they did have that on air for a little while) or Eye Shield on your show making the excuse of "running out of anime" bullshit.
-
Did toonami do pick up that lame one piece show? They should've just redone dbz, outlaw star (which was actually pretty good), and one of those gundam shows in all there anime slots for all 11 years instead putting crappy shows like that up.

Awesome. Now Try Speed Grapher >:3
Funny thing is I never ever watched anything from Toonami, we have local stations that play anime like Witch Hunter Robin so...
<_<
>_>
and AXN.
-
Outlaw Star WAS pretty good.
-
the ending was pretty sad tho. :(
bang, so says spike spiegal. :(
-
Im just glad Bandai decided to put Gundam 00 on Sci Fi instead of toonami, or else I would never would be able to watch it :(
-

thats cowboy bebop not outlaw star.
-
yes i know, at the end of the last toonami deal, the robot who is voiced by Blum who does Spike Spiegal says "bang", in homage to his character.
its like
:(
since cowboy bebop is one of the few anime i can tolerate and rather enjoyed
-
'Rather enjoyed'? Fuck, I'm not going to be bashful about it, I LOVED Cowboy Bebop.

For all intents and purposes, yes, One Piece dub WAS crappy, up until its 105th episode, when it became one of the best dubs I ever watched. I strongly dislike FUNimation's VA pool (all too stuck up on the "DBZ is god" bandwagon), but they actually pulled off something that was magical. Too bad CN cancelled it after 24 measly episodes. :(

sailor moon
dragonball z
reboot
real adventures of johnny quest
outlaw star
gundam wing
cowboy bebop
tenchi muyo
thundercats
everything else was shit
but i can safely say that without toonami i wouldnt be on gamingw
-
We didn't even have toonami here, just the local TV station which has a "children's time" from 4pm to 5.30pm" and showed various stuff like Zeta project, Batman, Superman, Justice League, Reboot etc, and back in the day other stuff too, like all those kids stuff like barney or sesame street whatever.
Although, I haven't watched TV in such a long time, I dunno if they still show that stuff. So yeah, it never really showed so I guess I can''t miss it :\

Cowboy Bebop never hit toonami, did it? Adult Swim, yes, but never toonami.
What about that ronin warriors show? Whenever I think back to watching it, I didn't like it at all, but I also realize I had no taste when I was younger, so maybe it was a really good show?
Also Cyborg 009 or Cyborg #9 or whatever. That show was AWESOME. Two drunk robots fighting and army of MAGIC ROBOT KILLING BEES? How can that not be good?
-
Yea I forgot Cyborg 009. But yea Cowboy Bebop was on toonami before AS.
-
wasn't tenchi muyo some garbage anime about a nerd boy surrounded by beautiful women and he JUST CAN'T MAKE IT WORK.
-
yeah tenchi muyo is one of those typical harem things where all these girls want the main character for some reason, but the guy's gay or impotent or something so they just scare him. it had battles and futuristic stuff too tho and I remember liking it back when it came out.
-
im the loaw in these parts now
-
can I mod this? I love anime.
oh kaworu left
-
Outlaw Star was ok but it was just such a proto-Cowboy Bebop
it was made by the same writer/artist right? I think the same person was responsible for a lot of decent animes, like The Big O too I think
also I vaguely remember some anime called Ronin Warriors, was that any good?
Edit: Oh they all came from Sunrise Studio, I thought it was the same director though. Shinichiro Watanabe is the Cowboy Bebop guy
-
big o was good. i never really watched it but it seemed cool and it had that quality of not being like actual anime which is basically required for me to watch something. bort once told me that adult swim like FINANCED IT after the first season and i always thought that was p cool. i dug the fact that they didnt overplay the whole mystery thing (not that i recall, anyway), and it seemed more western (specifically, like batman or something) than anything else. maybe i will download it.
-
also remember that cg show that was like GUNDAM BABBIES or something. that shit blew
-
Holy shit it did.
-
Yes.
EDIT: man what is this post? did i even make this?
this post doesn't even fit in at all this post does not belong at all.
delete this post i need it deleted GET THIS POST OUT OF HERE

Yeah, the second season financed by Cartoon Network was pretty awful. Multiply said awful by eight hundred if you hate anime. The first season was quite good, however.
-
well that sucks!
-

if you dont sit through more than an episode, i think thats the impression.
after that theres a bunch of star wars-esque plot with lightsabers and galaxy cops and stuff.
also, big O is my least favorite toonami show of all time. I really appreciate the theme song being so bad, because every time I hear it, it's like a warning siren telling me to change the channel.

I'M... ONE OF THE TOMATOES!
-
If you want to laugh; watch this. Seriously; it's one of the most unintentionally funny toonami animes ever.
-
That's also one of my favorite toonami shows, mostly because of the olympic aspects.
-

So it was toonami that introduced me to this.
I'm going to miss them.
-
RIP Toonami!
1997-2001 or somethng.
-
This catchphrase of mine is overplayed! It's annoying useage on the internet drives me to be unoriginal! Cliche anime finger!
Seriously, stop with the burning and shining finger bullshit youtube/4chan/internet.
Yeah........
Wait, what?
-
fuck
Ronin Warriors, that's it
I've been unable to find what anime I used to watch all the time as a kid for like 2 years now.
-
It's pretty sad, to me.
Maybe it didn't have the BEST of the BEST shows ever, but I can feel the nastalgia.
-
Oh yeah, and they really were pretty much gone after that whole not having more episodes of DBZ thing at a certain point.
-
how appropriate
i am watching Megas XLR right now. that show is pretty ridiculous for a kids/teens show. other than that, yeah, i pretty much watched everything on toonami until i was about sixteen
edit: even tuned in when they were showing those gorillaz and daft punk videos
-
I loved Toonami back in the day, I watched DBZ on it constantly when I was young...
-
man at first i thought this topic was CN CANCELS THEIR BEST BLOCK NO MORE CHOWDER + FLAPJACK but then i realized toonami was their dumb anime block haha anime

Is this a joke?
I am baffled by what would cause someone to like chowder. It's like dexter's lab or something for fat kids.

I loved G Gundam. I didn't find that video to be poor at all. But I also know everything that happened up until then. Maybe if that's the only clip I'd ever seen of it I'd think it was weird.
Well new Naruto eps are still being shown on CN for now so I don't care about the rest atm.

I loved it too, but for a decidedly different reason.
"There is great sadness coming from his fists...!"

Flapjack is what killed One Piece. :( Curse you, CN, and your one pirate-related cartoon policy!

I don't think Flapjack should be considered "pirate-related." :tsk:
-

one piece is what killed one piece
-
Yeah, I'd be much more willing to blame Spongebob for FlapJack than I would One Piece. (I can gurantee that's the reason the CN execs put the show into existance. Anyone should be able to see that.)
Maybe if Flapjack had more of a competivive spirit, or started beating people up when faced with a problem, I'd be more willing to tie it to One Peice specifically. Although technically, all three can be lumped together in a general sense.

Where ever will I be able to watch my DBZ, Gundam and Onepiece now that toonami is gone...
