Title: Hardcore
Post by: Goji on September 26, 2008, 11:18:18 pm
does anyone else listen/acknowledge/appreciate hardcore punk, like i do?

Quote
Hardcore punk (now usually referred to as simply hardcore) is a subgenre of punk rock that originated in North America in the late 1970s. The new sound was generally thicker, heavier and faster than earlier punk rock.[1] The songs are usually short, fast, and loud, covering topics such as politics, personal freedom, violence, social alienation, straight edge, war, and the hardcore subculture itself.[2][3][4]

Hardcore spawned several fusion genres and subgenres, some of which had mainstream success, such as melodic hardcore, metalcore, sludge metal and thrash metal.

personally, i myself really like it. more so of the oldschool, instead of much of the modern day trendy hardcore that's been populating everyone's malls and highschools.

just wondering what your opinions are.

I think a good portion of GW digs Bad Brains and Black Flag. I'm personally a bigger fan of the more modern hardcore scene, as in actual modern hardcore, not mallcore or whatever. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of early metalcore bands. I'm also slowly getting into power-violence which has to be the angriest form of hardcore I have ever heard.

modern hardcore... more like screamo and scene

Bad Brains are my favorite, but for though I appreciate some of these bands I'm not really ever in the mood to listen to this.

are you saying modern hardcore is screamo and scene? Because that is the most blatantly fucktard statement I have ever heard.

I listen to a lot of hardcore.

Hardcore Punk wise uh Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Fugazi (they were), Rhinoceros, etc.

I also like Metalcore and Post-Hardcore like Elysia, Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Abigail Williams, Hot Cross, The Fall of Troy, August Burns Red, Between the Buried and Me, blah blah blah blah

Fugazi.. is not hardcore, not even their earliest songs. There is a reason why they are the founders of post-hardcore

dude who cares they are a form of hardcore regardless, and every member was in a hardcore punk band.

shepperd no one cares about genres anymore (like a year ago)

Hardcore gives me a headache and I especially hate hardcore bands that have a whiny American guy singing clean vocals over the chorus. They are like blink 182 but with screaming.

the lyrics usually go

(screaming) "YOU BROKE MY HEART"
(whiny chorus) "I WALK ALONE, YOU TOOK IT ALL!"

etc

personally i listened to a lot of those bands a few years ago. i gotta say, love the new elysia album though. sounds so fresh for them. but a lot of those bands (whitechapel, suicide silence, tteotd, august burns red) are the mall metal i was talking about.

anyway, i'm super excited for october 5th, going to see barricade's cd release show, and wisdom in chains and reign supreme (two of my absolute favorite hardcore bands) are playing it, aswell as some metalcore locals. should be a really fun show. i've missed WIC more then a few times and the sad thing is that they're from around here (pennsylvania).

*chugga chugga chugga chugga* SIX PACK!

I'm surprised Henry Rollins isn't as nerd popular as Bill Hicks. probably because a nerd would get eaten at an old Black Flag concert.

all good bands creates bad bands
in the same way, Ian came up with straight edge, but with that came a bunch of idiots claiming it as a lifestyle that should be exposed to the public.

yeah minor threat are okay, never got into them, but if you want to talk about who nerds would fret over first it would probably someone who had a hand in creating a subculture that celebrates their failings.

no sex? no drugs? no alcohol? gentlemen...i am home.

Henry Rollins sold out so hard. He's doing shit like hosting VH1's 34 Greatest Rock N' Roll Moments in Movies of the 90's these days, there's nothing about him to like or take seriously

yeah its terrible. I like his older stuff in spoken word like Big Ugly Mouth or when he talks about being on the road with the band but his new shit, he seriously has stuff like FUCK BUSH! YEAH! it's sad. especially because if you have his older stuff at one point he mentions the US should go to Iraq and stop Saddam and his new shtick is basically BUSH? MORE LIKE...BU$H.

Wow, this is my first venture to the music forum and i'm pleasantly suprised.

I personally am in love with hardcore punk at the moment, really old school 80's stuff like 7 Seconds, Minor Threat, Vitamin X, Black Flag & the revolution summer bands who I hold very close to my heart; Embrace, Rites Of Spring, Indian Summer, Julia etc.

Also very suprising to see Drive Like Jehu get a mention.
