Title: Favo(-u)rite Action Movies
Post by: Parker on October 14, 2008, 02:24:00 am: I've been on a streak of watching ridiculous action movies because a) I love explosions and b) it's so mindless and awful that it's so fun.

I watched POINT BREAK last night, and I don't know how I have lived my life up to this point without seeing it. And the whole Rambo Series, Deep Blue Sea, the Die-Hard Trilogy, Mad Max, etc.

So, what are your favorite action movies, and recommend me more awesome action movies. I don't want "TRANSFORMERS" action movies. I want Point Break, Robocop action movies. And Predator is overrated.

Demolition Man is probably one of my personal favourite Stallone movies. Cobra is edgy and campy all at the same time. I remember Lock Up as being quite thrilling, but its been a long while since I've seen it. Assassins is a great cat and mouse movie. As far as Van Damme goes, you have the essentials: Bloodsport, Universal Soldier, Timecop, Cyborg. The Quest is just as good as (if not better than) Mortal Kombat. Legionairre is what I call a "good try", it'll hold your attention but don't expect too much.

Also see Face/Off (John Travolta and Nicholas Cage) which is generally retarded but filled with gunfights.

I remember when I was in HS I watched this TERRIBLE action movie about some young bankrobbers that all mystically knew kung-fu and were fighting a Vietnamese midget gang, when one of the protagonists died his gf married and made out with his dead corpse.

it was so insanely stupid, it was great.

Commando (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commando_(film)) is a definite classic. Desperado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desperado_(film)) is also a personal favorite of mine. Equilibrium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equilibrium_(film)) is a nice one though I can't remember if there's huge explosions in that one. Because it's not really an action film if it doesn't have stuff blowing up.

But yeah I always mix up all my action films. And usually the action films I like are some kind of sci-fi war action or just sci-fi action because in sci-fi things blow up nicely. I do like the occasional 80s action like the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon and the above mentioned Commando. But Commando is just so awesomely bad it's... Awesome. If I don't remember incorrectly five people die from a single bullet at one time. That's the mark of a good movie.

They play doomsketball and then there was the plastic surgery guy and then the surfing on the giant wave... I saw it at the drive in when I was young and I have never forgotten how awful it was or how much my dad loved it.

But yeah, lots of fun, everyone should see it.

also I guess it's not really action shit but Rocky IV is in the same kind of vein of so ridiculous it's really enjoyable.

'cause if you mean the first one it isn't very ACTIONY. it is very, very slow.

Escape from New York is excellent but it is also kinda slow. if you're in it for the action then Big Trouble in Little China is pretty awesome

also avoid escape from los angeles it is pretty bad and has TEENAGE APPEAL written all over it

the lethal weapon series is awesome too. young mel gibson is awesome.

but yeah for me there's no better action movie than Mad Max 2. also if you want to watch a movie that's more or less a remake of it catch Waterworld. The setting is changed from DESERT EVERYWHERE to OCEAN EVERYWHERE but apart from that they're pretty similar. tho Mad Max 2 is obviously better

Escape From LA was awful because it was a straight-up remake with Steve Buscemi replacing all of the cheesy awesome.
