Did anyone else know there was a Donny Darko sequel in production? I can't wait. :D

that sounds pretty awful. it doesn't sound like it'll be remotely similar so i don't know why any fans of the first movie would be happy.

Quote
S. Darko takes place in the summer of 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko's younger sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase), who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance. She and her best friend Corey (Evigan) set off on a road trip to Hollywood in a bid to 'make it big', but their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in a small desert town. When a meteorite happens to crash-land nearby, Samantha is plagued by bizarre visions telling of the universe's end and it appears that their breakdown was part of some grander plan. When she finds out she was actually adopted by the Darkos, and that she is in no way related to Donnie, she must face her own demons and, in doing so, save the world and herself.

Really? Sounds pretty awesome imo. >.>

Yeah. This movie seems like it kind of "veers away" from the idea of the original. But I think that this actually has the potential to be good. I loved the first movie, and if they are careful then this might be a worthy sequel.

I noticed his filmography was almost... empty. With a totally inexperienced director I don't see how this could be good... its a shame really.

The first one was a good movie, albeit fairly confusing.

completely nonsensical and dependent upon looking up third-party explanations on the internet that were in no way explained or touched upon in the movie*

Yeah, I know...

The movie was pretty confusing which is certainly a weak point, but I still thought the whole idea of it made it pretty good none-the-less.

I saw this a while back and didn't like the idea but as an avid fan of the first I kinda have to see it, so I guess I'm kind of excited. The premise of a sequel is appealing to me, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe it'll make sense.

what do you mean! seriously what do you mean. like i watched this movie for like TWO FUCKING HOURS and nothing happened. literally nothing at all happened. sure you get the sense that there is some force at work here beyond our understanding (and by beyond our understanding i mean literally NOTHING IS EXPLAINED) or some shit but that has been already said. i will repeat anyway; mood is all this movie has going for it. like you get feeling that maybe(just maybe) something might be happening soon but guess what it never does. honestly if this movie is brilliant for anything it's having so much bizarre shit go on and still find a way to not advance the plot at all.

this movie is such a waste of time. it's almost like watching that videotape in the ring where a bunch of CRRRAAAZZZYYY stuff happens but there is essentially no plot at all

Unrelated, unnecissary, horrible idea, and bad idea. Can I put emphasis on 'horrible idea', while helping everyone ignore I'm talking about the bad idea hub of the galaxy, Hollywood. No, I can't. Shit.

when this movie comes out, its going to be just as cool to hate donnie darko as it currently is cool to like donnie darko.

ps. obviously making no sense is not a downfall for donnie darko, since so many people do not know what the hell is going on, yet love the movie. also rottentomatoes=83%

I'm serious though, I hate it when people try to demean other people's opinions by saying WELL I GUESS IT'S "COOL" TO LIKE THIS.  As much as I hate everybody's opinions you will never see me say IT'S COOL TO LIKE CRASH, THAT'S THE ONLY POSSIBLE REASON WHY ANYBODY WOULD LIKE IT.  That's called being narrow-minded and dumb as shit!  I'm gonna go take a nap!

well ok it is kind of a shitty example but i dont think it's very hard to see how i got there!

anti-establishment, destruction of property, even ANARCHY, a generally dark theme.

ok it is kind of a poor analogy and i am reaching a bit but it's not awful either

I totally agree, and ftr, I don't like the movie.
I don't want to make a debate over Donnie Darko (haven't seen crash lol), but there are MANY people who like things because they are popular. I didn't say that was the only reason to like them at all, you exaggerated my opinion a bit.
I wasn't taking a jab at anyone here. In my area Donnie Darko is some kind of cult hit, and I have no idea why because I have yet to meet anyone who can tell me what it's about, and I intended my post to mean that Donnie Darko's cult following will disappear when this sequel comes out.

On the other hand though, there are a dozen posts in each topic in the movie forum saying "this movie is absolute garbage." as opposed to "I don't like this movie at all." IMO nobody here gets to decide whats good and whats not and the only thing posts like these do is start fights with people who have different opinions.

Its been a while since I actually watched Donny Darko, but from memory I think one of the things that appealed to me most was that it didn't feel like a half-baked script. The movie is packed full with tons of philosophical anologies, usually exploring the theme of anarchy within the madness of the modern world. Every scene serves a purpose, and a lot of the opinions that Donny have seem nothing short of brilliant. I usually hate discecting movies, but Donny Darko is a very cleverly crafted movie thats miles ahead of most scripts in terms of depth (imo). Its a shame that the abstract plot is enough to deter some people from liking it.

I watched Donny Darko this year and hadn't seen it before. According to hype I was expecting this uber dark and deep storyline... Really it was goddamn simplistic, and as shallow as a toilet.
I can see the attraction. Goth kinda vibe, weird bunnyman, cool effects... whatever.

Donnie Darko is better than about 80% of the shit being put out at the moment... That is untill S.Darko comes out, that sounds HORRIBLE.
I was personally impressed by Donnie Darko, it's iconic in it's own way in terms of the (entire) soundtrack (and yes, there are better tracks than Mad World!), the visual design and the narrative structure, which confused majority of audiences. It's a film that just comes down to personal taste, it'll either click or it won't.

The best thing about donnie darko was the soundtrack. Donnie darko was effectively a thought provoking music video that any of my past female partners (emos) will prattle on about for hours given the chance.

I'll give you that.

I still can't decide which is worse, the Prince of Persia movie, Max Payne, or S.Darko.
Donnie's sister's on her way to Hollywood to make it big, and a meteor hits the earth and she has to save the world and herself.
and she isn't donnies sister at all.

O_o` yep.

That's like asking what animal do you want shit smeared on your face from, a cow, a pig or a dog? You know all of them are going to be horrible. The only problem occurs when everyone is like "eugh, that was horrible" and all you can think is "damn, i quite liked that...".
