Yeah we all know Asian people aren't allowed to be actors unless they know kung-fu or have some sort of lame sense of humor.

I'll include some detail next time, I just thought such a badly conceived movie needed no introduction. ~_^

I've been awaiting this movie ever since it was announced. I have high hopes but not ridiculous ones. I'm actually pleased with Jake playing the prince (even though he's not persian) as he certainly looks the part from the photos that people have taken while filming scenes.

The creator of PoP is involved in the making of this film so I don't think he'll allow them to butcher it too much, and the story isn't going to follow the Sands of Time too faithfully which will probably upset a lot of purists, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

This is going to be the new Disney trilogy.

So instead of "chortlechortle He's a Pirate!"
it'll be "chortlechortle He's the Prince!"

except the last two games (idk much about the 3rd but it's assumption) became emo and really dark...

so you know how dark goes for disney.

so you know how anything really goes for disney now.

Man isn't this the one way to do a good video game movie adaption? The only way to make it good is to drop the games events and much of its story because that is made for a game and rarely/never translates into a movie well.

There's lots of ways to make this stuff work. For instance, don't have the actor fail at platform jumping, and then do it again and again.
If they kept the kind of action portrayed in the game, in the movie, and snuck in longer cutscenes (so to speak) I personally think it'd be cooler. The only gamemovie I can't argue this for, is like... Super Mario Bros. That was just a bad idea in every way. And there's no way to make it better.

But like, Double Dragon for instance... that's just a beat'm'up film. It'd be like Lord of the Rings the Two Towers. It's still interesting, and it can be taken to the silverscreen, but they need to at very least stop making shit up and mixing it with preexisting shit.
IE: Silent Hill. Why is Pyramid Head there? They could have made a whole Silent Hill movie, keeping the themes and general conscept of the atmosphere, while bringing a new character's nightmare to life.
I'm not quite down with the Mythos of Mortal Kombat, but that was the best game movie to my standards, followed by the Tomb Raiders and DOOM.

No. They killed it with the sequel... :(

wha

The above rant was directly concerning video game movies. I hold them in an entirely different cup than other movies, as it's basically a sub-sub genre of any genre. Silent Hill being a sub-class to horror films, double dragon a sub-class to fighting films, etc. I doubt I'll ever say that Tomb Raider is the best action/adventure movie of all time. It's more a crowd pleaser. (if that, in some cases)

Horrible... gonna butcher this amazing game as a shitty movie now as well.

The prince has got to be Persian and the princess (The Maharaja of India's daughter) as well as everyone else in the movie has to be East Indian, as it takes place in India. From what I read from wiki, clearly that is not the case... The actors and actresses appear to be western and caucasian.. Why the fuck can't they find any proper looking actors/actresses?! There are plenty of proper and talented ones out there..

Hell, even Mohinder Suresh from Heroes would make a better Prince and he's not even Persian, though he is East Indian (So he could probably end up playing someone else in this film)..

Why do they keep butchering shit? First it was that DBZ movie, then Doom, Max Payne... and now this?

They can, they just don't want to find any proper looking actors/actresses.

The reason is obvious, the money. With major wide releases, if it is not already a household ip, it is important to cast really popular actors because thats money. There would be more appeal for the consumer to see a film with Jake Gyllenhaal on the poster rather than Sendhil Ramamurthy.

Besides, casual American moviegoers hate Asians.

I wouldn't say this is true considering that pretty all video game movies released to date have done this and have ranged from the crappy to the abysmal. I imagine if they did follow the story accurately the movie would be a million times better.

This particular games story I care little for... but I still think it would be better that they FOLLOW IT, rather then throw in a random crappy story that sort of connects the game and movie in name only that some hack writes for it.

Why did I hate DOOM? other then the obvious general low quality. They changed much of the story for the worse. For instance, instead of having Demons from hell, they changed it to a generic crazy mutant shit. or how instead of at least atempting to give a sense of fear by keeping the number of characters low (sense of loneliness), they make it a whole fucking team of idiots. And they center the story around the wrong people all together, it would have been much more interesting for the story to show how the base was taken over rather then have us watch a squad team come in to do what seems like clean up.

Or Silent Hill, The acting was decent, but they changed to much fucking story to the point that it again was just "generic horror movie". I literally stopped watching it halfway through. (something I should have done with DOOM honestly) The story in the original was good enough for a movie, if it was replicated correctly it would have been an excellent movie.

I want to see a video game movie that replicates the story on the level of the GOOD book to movie adaptations. So far there really hasn't been one. They have all pretty much veered off on their own terribly written story and it feels like each time I watch a movie like this I feel like I'm being spit on (as a fan of the series).

A GOOD book to movie adaption is possible because the book is usually GOOD. Video game storylines are SHIT, I don't care what your shitty defenses are like MAN DOOM BIOSHOCK GEARS OF WAR METAL GEAR SOLID STORYLINES ARE SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

No they suck - especially compared to a GOOD BOOK.

I'm inclined to agree, as much as I hate how money is such a big factor..

Its just gonna upset the diehard fans of the series (people who actually played all of the games and went through the series)..

Jake was fantastic in Zodiac, I thought. He fit the character really well. But I haven't seen enough of his work to really judge him as an actor. But his sister is just awful.

There's a Prince of Persia rerelease of the PlayStation classic. Apparently improved lighting and graphics for HD quality. I might try it, but who knows... They're already doing a remake of it for PS3.
Who is Chartlon Heston? Is he related to Charlton Heston?
