Hey guys! So I just double checked when I posted the last face of GW and it seems its been a little more than over a year ago since I've posted it. Its been mentioned on IRC to me that I should get a new one started! So here's your advanced warning topic. If you don't know about or don't remember much about it: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=2982.0 I composited faces collected from GW people to make a kind of child. Now some picture taking guidelines:
Winter is coming upon us but I'm asking everyone to try to get some fresh pictures outdoors.
Do NOT take photos in direct sunlight, rather, try to find whatever side of your house has good amount of ambient light. -or- Find some time to spot a day where there's good cloud cover -or- Make a wall/tent of white cloth (bedspread etc) which will diffuse light coming through <= hardcore option -or- Just make the best of your lighting as you can, I can do some photoshop tricks but shadows are problematic
Keep hair out of your face, this is VERY important. Depending on how much, I will not be accepting your photo if you have a swatch of hair on your forehead.
Plain backgrounds would be good, not completely necessary though.
**New Rule: No grinning! Smiles/frowns are okay but no teeth!!
Please do everything in your power to make sure the photo is a full frontal image. We should be able to see both ears, and your eyes should line up with the tops of your ears (don't be tilting your head back) here's a template: (http://www.gamingw.net/pubaccess/24805/faceshot.gif)
*Please note that template is the minimum size of your head, you may submit larger pictures (not needlessly large, maybe x3 at max)
I'll be collecting images until I think I have a suitable number of acceptable images. I think the last time I used 8 images but I really want a much larger sample size this time.

I might be bothered to do this, but it seems like too many rules. Why not simplify it to a clear shot of the face? Whats with the no teeth rule. THIS TOPIC IS GHEY!

Pfft, if you can't step outside to take a photo then we don't want you!!
Also, its mostly because outdoor lighting is a good source of neutral ambient light, indoor lighting is really poor (too yellow, too blue), and some people might be trying to take photos with poorer-quality cellphones/cameras which generate a lot of grain in-doors. Also, indoor lighting generates odd shadows that fall across the face, or under the eye ridge, or under the mouth. Basically this happens:

Now, if you can pull off studio lighting with good even lighting then by all means go ahead. Asking everyone to go outdoors just means I don't have to get into "Please place two lamps from you at 45 degree angles approximately 10 feet away!"

Because how the morphing process works is that it takes edge values from all of the pictures and moves them to create averages, a closed mouth has different edges than a mouth open.

Just the head if you can do so, leave some space above the head and crop below the neck but the whole thing is fine as well.

Keep in mind that Coxswain's photo is a little bit on the small size but its good enough quality that enlarging it won't detract terribly from the final.

Here's a version that actually shows how I use the template to measure out the sizes of the heads. With the eyes in the center, the top or bottom should align with the edge of the circle. Not all faces are in perfect proportions and there's always a slight tilt but this generally helps maintain some conformity. So try to keep that in mind when submitting photos that I will be resizing them down to this size, and its always better to be resizing down rather than up.

that's a pretty cool pic (why are there so many pigeons and ducks just hanging out with each other???) but your hair is totally in your face so I doubt Medieve will accept your pic
