Title: Does anyone listen to funk here?

No, not Dr. Funk. More like "Dr. Funkenstein" by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

I've recently gotten into funk music and I am totally digging this sound. The sound never gets boring for me for some reason. But I only know the more popular stuff like the aforementioned George Clinton, Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang, James Brown, The Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire. I was wondering if anyone here listened to funk and could recommend some lesser known stuff I could get ahold of.

I was also wondering if there are any modern groups that have this kind of sound.

Yeah that's Mothership Connection by Parliament Funkadelic and that shit's really funky and all but I'm wondering if anyone knows any cool stuff that wasn't mainstream.

yeah you can find their compilation 'funkify your life' on the torrent networks pretty easily

one of the best albums I didnt spend a dime on in my life

Funkadelic are one of the coolest bands around. So of course, check out Purple Image, especially Living in the ghetto. It's great acid-tinged funk/psyche-rock, and they seem to be one of them obscure gems.
I also like Sly & the family Stone, they're really cool.
