Disclaimer before I get flamed: I know Americans have motels, just not the kind of motel I'm talking about.
I'm Brazilian.
One of these days I was talking to a friend in the US, and he was telling me he went out with a girl. They went to see a movie, and then they made out in the car... just preliminaries. And then they went home. And I thought "why didn't you take her to a motel?". And then I realized there are no motels in America (like the ones we have in Brazil).
In Brazil, if you wanna have sex with somebody but can't do it in your house or hers, you take her to a motel. A motel is some sort of hotel (or some sort of motel like you have in the US), only it has no other purpose but sex. If you go to a motel, people know you are having sex. Inside a motel room you have a bed, a TV with porn channels, a minibar, some mirrors, a bathroom, and depending on the quality of the motel, things you can use for sex (like condoms, dildos and stuff). Motels are extremely common, and you'll find them in any city.

Why there are no such places in the US? Or are there, but I haven't heard of?
How about other countries?

Uh dude there are tons of "motels" there are just usually in larger cities. There are a bunch in Vegas dude I've even been to one. They are not really very nice usually and everything is of questionable cleanliness, but they definitely exist.
-
yeah, i've been to one once. they have all that stuff, dude.
-
you been to best westerns with PLASTIC DICKS in the minibar? sex hotels, from what I know (admittedly only shit from india and HARUKI MURAKAMI), have a bit of a different atmosphere.
-
Most likely they don't exist here because the strict religious folks would raise hell if there were places strictly intended for adultery. I mean, there are run down motels where you KNOW people are just there for sex, but they're not openly advertised as such. You'd think that with the abundance of strip clubs and porn stores, and sexual content on television, things like sex itself wouldn't be such a taboo topic.
-
we have motels, but as far as i know, we don't have motels like that! we have BROTHELS but honestly, and maybe this is because i have not spent any amount of time in large american cities, i have never heard of sex-themed motels who exist entirely for people to come fuck in being anything but individual oddities. i'd heard other countries had them in spades, though.
-
What the hell? We have motels.
-
i thought a motel was just a hotel without service.. like a sketch hotel.
all the motels i've seen (in canada or us) were pretty plan and just boring places to crash without having to spend too much.
how awkward would it be if you were traveling somewhere with a friend and shared a room with dildos and mirrored ceilings!! haha
-
fffff calunio will you highlight DILDOS or caps it or make it larger?
you know you assholes are not reading the topic, right? thats a warnable offense! sex motels are common outside of the US! they aren't the same as what you think.

In Canada there might be run down motels and hotels that are essentially what your talking about. But what baffles me is just how high class they seem to be (average true Love Hotel) in comparison to any normal hotel and motels you'd normally find around here. Heack i'd stay at a Love Hotel if it were cheaper then a Hotel of the same quality.

after reading that wiki link i do remember hearing about those in japan. at the ones in brazil, can you pay by the hour as well?
that would seem so weird to do that...
-
What I thought motels were everywhere, we have them here even in the smalles towns, everybody uses them.
(when they can't afford a better place, or someone's actual house)
-
from the wikipedia http://www.mistykeasler.com/ has some sweet pictures of japanese ones
there's still the idea of "take a girl to a motel to f*** (flip) her" but that just means a cheap motor hotel that may pay by the hour. like our motels are mostly for sex and drugs.
those look really crazy though, i don't think the us will ever have them on a wide scale (even in the big cities really) because its kind of uptight about sex. and so should we all be!

jesus fucking christ if one more person refuses to learn how to read the FIRST SENTENCE OF THIS TOPIC i'm just going to lock this because this is ridiculous
-
of course ameircans have motels... were not some 3rd wordl country lol
-
man i remember one of these like, being in the news, and everyone making a big deal out of it.
(vancouver area)
-
i think we have one here in town at least, all the windows are black but it looks pretty fancy. there's no ADVERTISING or anything like that for it though, maybe that was the issue?
on a slightly similar note, i was really weirded out when i found out most of the world doesn't have steam-plugs for their hot water. my parents one sprung a leak a while ago and they didn't notice and now there's a massive hole thats rotted away in their kitchen. there's just a lot of things you take for granted that no-one else has ever even heard of, though i think motels for sex is too crazy.
it sounds kinda like a BYO brothel.
-
i need some steam, NOW. where is you steam plug?? you dont have one?!?!
-
what do you mea nit broke how am i supposed to make a capuccino now?
-
That sounds really awesome. Here we don't have such a thing, for the same reasons as Stormi. Damn it :(
-

no i just mentioned that my parents one had a leak that ruined their floor and this guy bugged out! i knew you couldn't get them in the south island because it's not as geothermally active but i never thought that most countries aren't!
-
what do you do with the steam plug? do you plug appliances into it?
-
you can but they suck and they're noisy. it's mostly for instant hot water and heating and stuff. all our heating is free
-
Alright, that was a fair warn, I won't argue it.
However the topic title is a bit misleading: "AMERICANS DON'T HAVE MOTELS". I mean maybe it should say 'sex motels' since that's what he means?
-
maybe you should reply to the topic and not the topic title?
-
No it was just a suggestion not an excuse for my post.
-
Steam Plug sounds awesome, I would kill a man for a Steam Plug

how is prostitution viewed in brazil? is there high end prostitution? since those types of motels would definitely cater to it, maybe that's the reason that our motels are crappy/rundown/not really directed towards sex (even though they often end up being used for that reason..)
also ryan's post after like 8 warns and ase's comment was pretty priceless, i thought it was sarcasm at first hahahah

Prostitution is legal. Managing prostitutes is illegal.
People are usually not ok with prostitution... not like "my son is a doctor and my daughter is a prostitute". But it's not at all hidden.
For example, here's a website from my city:
www.belasdegoiania.com
Here you'll find girls, guys and things-in-between, and their phone number. Some of these people are college students, and come from a good family. They prostitute because they make a lot of money. A have a guy friend who's a prostitute. He used to make like R$6.000/month (about U$3.000/month), but he's not working with that anymore.
-
I.........I have a confession to make....
I've never slept with a "working girl"
I know its my duty as a sailor and I've never done it
p...p..please forgive me........................................
EDIT: Also I haven't seen any of those lovetels in japan but thats not to say they don't exist. I hear about brothels all the time though. Which I guess in the end is alot cheaper and easier if you're a horndog looking for A QUICK LAY AND MASSAGE!
