a) if you were born/grew up in a large/famous city then it doesn't count! feel free to post it obviously, and you can talk about it and stuff. But large famous cities are boring.
b) "hometown" can be defined as either the town you were born, the town where you grew up, the town where you spent MOST of your time growing up, the town you grew up in that you liked the most, or any combination thereof!
Ok so i was born in Chico California, in north cali. It's not super famous, but at least everyone in california knows of it. It's home of the "party college" Chico State University. I love this town so much, they have the best trees and there are squirrels everywhere and the roads are all old and shit. The place is beautiful and has one of those awesome STONER vibes because its in humboldt county, home of "humboldt county bud" or whatever which is just what they call really good weed from humboldt county (which probably comes from canada but w/e).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chico,_California
I grew up in Manteca California, which is in the central valley, about an hour east of frisco/bay area, and 3 hours or so south of Chico. Manteca pretty much sucks and its a total tweaker town now which sucks big time. Our claim to fame was the WATERSLIDES which were actually pretty cool but they closed down a while ago.
My grandma's long-time friend owned some land, a few acres, which we lived on for a long time. It was pretty sweet, there were like 4 houses (my grandma's friend, my grandma, my aunt and a family friend of my grandma's friend). Anyways, my grandma's friends' husband (Frank) owned the land and he loved it so much. He had cows, and an auto shop on the premises. It was a really sweet place to be looking back on it! we were across the street from an orchard and surrounded by other farms so it was pretty DESERTED. anyways pressure from frank's wife made him sell the land to the city or whatever for multiple millions of dollars, and now there's a giant shopping center on it :(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manteca,_California
So what about your home town?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinsburg,_Ohio is where I lived for a long time as a kid, and basically grew up I guess. Twinsburg is a generic THIRD-PHASE OF WHITE FLIGHT suburb or w/e. It was kind of just a regular small town when we moved there, but now it is large and full of housing developments and shit. Faceless suburb, basically! It does have TWINSDAYS though which is world-famous, apparently.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedford_Heights is where I've lived since I was about fourteen! It is where all the white people left when they started moving to towns like Twinsburg (Solon and Macedonia are others if you are FAMILIAR WITH CLEVELAND). Bedford itself is really towny and quaint and kind of nice still (it feels a lot like the town Funky Winkerbean is set in, tbh), but Bedford Heights is very poor/run-down. My brother actually told me it was FAMOUSLY run-down, because I can literally throw a rock out of my windows and hit Southgate, which was apparently one of the first big shopping mall/plaza things in America, and I guess it was a big deal in the 50s/60s when it was built, and now it has gone to shit too and half of the stores are empty, while the other half are beeper shops/payday loan planes/liquor stores/other poor black neighborhood cliches. I guess it is one of the cases they always cite in urban studies/geography classes when talking about HORRORS OF WHITE FLIGHT. The once mighty Southgate... reduced to this...

I was born in Kenasville, North Carolina, which is the county seat. It's basically a small, boring rural town.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenansville,_North_Carolina
I always lived in a town called Wallace - there is pretty much nothing there, either. The most that the town claims is a Wal-Mart. Chop full of close-minded faggots. God, I hate it here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace,_North_Carolina
Now I live in Teachey, North Carolina. Same concept but a different town.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teachey,_North_Carolina
Teachey is directly north of Wallace, while Kenansville is approximately 20 miles north of Teachey. Don't come stalking me you fuckers.

should i move this to general?

sweet my town rules http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oley
I like where I live a lot. it has its problems but it'll definitely always be home!!
also my old HS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oley_Valley_High_School#Notable_events
The School made the national news on January 24, 2002 when 62 and a half year-old bus driver Otto Nuss took 13 children on an unauthorized five-hour detour of 185 kilometers (115 miles)[4] on what was supposed to be a six-mile, 15-minute trip to Berks Christian School in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania.[5] On September 23, 2003, Nuss was sentenced to four years in prison for federal kidnapping.
also had a shotgun
A student, who wearing a gorilla mask climbed onto the school roof on February 15, 2005 as a prank, has been acquitted of disorderly conduct and trespassing charges despite prompting police, the FBI, a bomb squad and a state police helicopter to respond.
the whole school was evacuated for hours, and the building was surrounded by MEN WITH GUNS. the dude jumped off a lower roof and made a break for it, got tackled by a couple police officers
esiann can tell u about worldquest.....
go for it goldenratio, it's better than the NAME/AVATAR topics
-
Also, i'm pretty sure pretty much all US towns have a wiki page, unless it's some super rural, Podunk town somewhere in rural Kansas.
-
a better title would be "Tell us about your hometown" but honestly that sounds really gay at least this title gets people in here or something. tbh i never wiki'd any of my hometowns before just now when i made this topic!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Bay,_Ontario
That is the town where I lived for more than half of my life. It's a nice city that sits between two lakes. It prides itself as the "Gateway to the North" which connects Northern and Southern Ontario.
It's the home town of the worst premier to ever lead Ontario (Mike Harris). It's also home to Troy Hurtubise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Hurtubise), who is famous for his "Ursus armour". which is a giant metal suit he built to protect himself against bear attacks. He also claims to have invented a device that can see through walls. There's also a military base which was home to "The Hole", a three story radar/monitoring complex that was entirely underground, which was the Canadian counterpart to the Cheyenne Mountain complex.

I was born in Columbus, Ohio which is a fairly interesting city because of all the shit going on here that no one knows about. They just think oh corn country, they must have no culture. They are wrong about Columbus. That said, most of Ohio isnt worth much outside the major cities and even then Cincinnati and every other metropolitan area other than Columbus and Cleveland really suck so yeahhh.
But I spent the first twelve years of my life in a town (now a city) called Powell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell,_Ohio
known mostly for its farmers market, musical and festive events and its proximity to one of the best zoos in the world (The Columbus Zoo. You know.. Jack Hanna and Jane Goodall? Columbus Zoo people)
other famous people that live in or are associated with Powell
* Melina Kanakaredes, Actress, current role in CSI New York - Husband & brothers own a local home and Greek restaurant
* Mike Vrabel, NFL Football Player
* Robert Smith, NFL Football Player
* Michael Redd, NBA Basketball Player
* Rick Nash, NHL Hockey player
* Jon Busch, Professional Soccer Player
* Chris Perry, professional golfer
* William White, NFL football player (Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons)
* R.J. Umberger, NHL hockey player (Flyers, Blue Jackets)
And then I moved to a place called Delaware. A really strange post-industrial mainstreet USA type place that isnt in the Rust Belt but is still really shitty and redneck as fuck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware,_Ohio
We have the biggest chariot race in the world in Delaware: The Little Brown Jug. Its actually harness racing, but basically the Brown Jug is the Triple Crown of Harness Racing and sometime I want to go there tripping balls and then write a story about it like Hunter S Thompson did with that oh so famous race in his hometown.
Ohio Weslyan university is in Delaware. Apparently it is a really good liberal arts school, but it is expensive as fuck and I dont know why you'd want a liberal arts school degree unless you want to teach High School so yeahhhh... Also Rutherford B Hayes was born in Delaware. Where his house used to be is now a BP Station, but there is still a historical marker lol. Branch Rickey and Buck Rodgers also were born in Delaware for any of you baseball people you know how important these dudes were to the ending segregation in baseball and the earliest stirrings of the Civil Rights movement. However, Delaware county is now one of the most republican counties in the country and also happens to be one of the fastest growing in the country because of the school district I went to high school at. I'll give you an idea of how the area has changed: when I went to kindergarden 12 years ago, the entire district K-12 was in one building. As of now, 5 months after I graduated, there are 3 high schools, 4 middle schools and between 16-20 elementaries. I lost track.
so yeah thats my hometowns in a nutshell

I come form a small and boring British town in Hampshire... It's nice in how it's quite a rich county and I even live in the richer area ("Cheapest house in the richest area" as my Dad says...)

Colour me surprised, wiki does have an article on my "hometown" (it's a suburb): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncraig,_Western_Australia
-
Mine does, yay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotorua
Also, fun fact. The guy who plays Jango Fett and the Clones in the newer Star Wars movies, Temuera Morrison, he lives just down the road from my house. Like, 2 minutes walk.
He's selling the place though..
-
i lived in East Marion, NY (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Marion,_New_York) until i was like twelve. i don't actually remember a whole lot about the town itself (all i saw of it was on the bus route and it all looked pretty much the same) but it's interesting to note that there is only one black family.
i live in Vanceboro, NC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanceboro,_North_Carolina) now, which is only slightly larger and pretty much just a big cliche rural town. also i never knew the strawberry festival had a street dance before tonight that is pretty cool.
-
Surprisingly enough, it does.

Yeah, it does! Not too big of a place but has a few semi-important bits, I spose.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit_Cove
Not where I was born, but I have lived here most of my life, so I might as well say so. There is a semi-large debate as to whether we are a town, community, or what. Our chamber of commerce seems to think it is a separate place of some sort, but since we are so heavily tied to Jacksonville, many people just say we are part of it.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosse_Pointe_Woods
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit
but Detroit doesn't really count because it's huge and whatnot. let me just say, they sure make Detroit look a LOT better than it actually does, hah. those pictures are of the good parts. mostly it's just burned down houses and stuff like that. you gotta be real careful in Detroit, because that's where the weak are killed and eaten and people get shot every day. also, drugs aplenty. it's a really sad city. :[ especially if you go to one of those women and children shelters for people who's families have been involved in gang fights, drug deals, etc... and they're all very messed up people. i'm glad i moved out of Detroit. o_o
EDIT: after all, the motto is "We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes" (but in Latin). at least [/ especially]Kwame Kilpatrick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwame_Kilpatrick) isn't in office anymore.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fakenham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fakenham)
really not that interesting!!!
edit:
"In the late 1990s the town was listed by a contributor to the knowhere guide as "the most boring place on Earth"[4]. The contribution was specifically referring to Wednesday afternoon which is 'early closing' in Fakenham. This comment, made by an individual, was taken and quoted out of context as "voted the most boring place on Earth" and very rapidly the story was running in national newspapers with the town council defending the town and spending considerable time, money and effort trying to prove that this was not the case."

Yup, mine's there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Prague
I'm highly impressed at the amount of content in this article... I live in a town of virtually 6,000.
-
Yup here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corbin,_Kentucky)
I think MOST towns have a wikipedia page, because even less noteworthy towns near mine have wikipedia pages.
It's interesting that the article for mine has a picture of the Engineer Street bridge, because they just recently redid that whole thing. It was just this old decrepit bridge that wasn't used for anything and now they've turned it into a decorated walkway...which is actually pretty useless because there aren't many pedestrians here.
# Colonel Harlan Sanders, entrepreneur and founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant chain
# Arthur Lake, actor who played Dagwood Bumstead in the Blondie movies
I didn't know there were Blondie movies. That's more interesting than the fact that he's from Corbin.
Each year in early August, Corbin hosts a festival called NIBROC (Corbin spelled backwards) featuring open-air concerts, carnival attractions, a beauty pageant, parade, and other events. The festival is featured, if anachronistically, in the play Last Train to Nibroc [1] by Arlene Hutton. (Though the play is set in the 1940s, the festival itself only dates to 1952.)
Nibroc is usually pretty lame, but I went all the time as a child to ride the rides. I went last year too because Jefferson Starship came to perform, it was p. great.
Also this article linked to a story about the awful racial issues in Corbin. This happened sometime around (maybe after?) World War I
"They swore at us and said: 'By God we are going to run all Negroes out of this town tonight,'" said longtime black resident John Turner in a signed affidavit a few months after the incident. He and his wife were taken to the depot at gunpoint and forced to leave.
No wonder we only have like two black families STILL.
Slone now works in a cabinet factory in Corbin. He says he's received some cold looks in town, but for the most part, Corbin has not lived up to its old reputation as a place that's inhospitable to black people.
FOR THE MOST PART it's not lived up to that reputation. As in, we don't force blacks out at gunpoint anymore, we just give them awful looks.

I don't live there at the moment (only did for 1 or 2 years when I was really young), but I thought the point of this topic was hometowns so I posted that link.
I currently live here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hale,_Greater_Manchester).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tver
I moved out when I was a toddler, but a lot of my relatives still live there so I visit. It used to be really low-income housing but recently the city has been spending more money and the place looks a lot more modern. when I visited last year, there were a lot of european-style streets with nicely paved roads and lamps and there were jars of flowers decorating the whole place.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, which is a major city so fuck yeah it has a wikipedia page.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh,_Pennsylvania
However my family currently lives in the suburbs slightly outside the main city, and that too has a wikipedia page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_Hills
Growing up in a major city is pretty cool, with Pittsburgh having the Steelers, a strong economy with LOTS of business districts/shopping, a nationally famous healthcare system (and the University of Pittsburgh to go with it) a pretty cool bar/clubbing scene once you're old enough, a lot of corporate headquarters, and generally a lot to do with all the cultural knowledge a big city has to offer!
I didn't realize the 'magnitude' of growing up where I did, until I went to college in a small town (where about 50% of the students were from small towns), and everyone seemed to me to be boondockish country boy/girl hicks who don't know shit about shit. Today I still laugh when people say 'HEY HAVE U EVER SEEN A SKYSCRAPER'

I grew up in Hanover, PA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanover,_Pennsylvania). Yes, it is the snack food capital of the world. It's an okay place, but I am glad to be out of there. I know live outside of Philadelphia, specifically in King of Prussia, PA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_Prussia,_Pennsylvania). According to wikipedia, it is home to the largest shopping complex in the US. I go to the King of Prussia mall almost every day for lunch, and I find it hard to believe it is the biggest in the US. I like this area much better than Hanover, but since I am only a short drive away from Philly, there is actually stuff to do.
I'm surprised at how many PA people there are here.

It's largest in terms of retail space, according to wikipedia. the Mall of America is the largest in terms of overall area

I love how they mention "tourist attractions" as if tourists want to come here.
The only tourists we get are people coming to see the first KFC.
They are all Asian.
I wish I was just being stereotypical but I have never ever seen a non-Asian tourist there (I know which ones are the tourists because no one else eats there, it is so shitty. Also they are always taking pictures.)
-
When I was working at mcdonalds, one time this large group of asian tourists was there, and when they were waiting for their food they were all crowded around the fountain machine taking pictures and pointing at it in awe. it was pretty funny because its not unique in any way (the mcdonalds was attached to a gas station and the gas station had TWO FOUNTAIN MACHINES which is more hilarious imo)
-
Asian tourists are seriously the most bizarre tourists. Apparently one time my brother caught some asian tourists taking a picture of him. This is strange because my brother doesn't have any hilarious deformities.

Highlands Ranch, CO!
According to a 2006 estimate, the median income for a household in the CDP was $97,627, and the median income for a family was $101,373.[1] Males had a median income of $62,474 versus $40,910 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $34,707. 1.8% of the population and 1.2% of families were below the poverty line, including 1.7% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren,_Michigan
I was born in Warren, Michigan. Among other things, Warren was responsible for a quarter of the Sherman tanks produced by the US for WWII. The only reason I mention that fact is because I grew up next to the tank plant that built those. Of course, by the time I was born, the plant was pumping out M1 Abrams. At one point in their lives, both of my biological parents worked at that tank plant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_Line
You really can't mention Warren without talking about Center Line. I did most of my schooling in this tiny excuse of a town which is completely surrounded by the city of Warren. Apparently, the only thing Center Line is known for is the fact that some of Michigan's earliest prominent families are buried at the cemetery across from the grocery store.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingsville,_Ontario
This is where I live now. We're Canada's most southern town and home to the Jack Miner bird sanctuary as well as Colasanti's tropical gardens. I would also like to personally add that Kingsville is a tourist trap of a town and someone needs to clean up the beaches.

Does Edmonton count as "famous?" Probably not, but I guess that we're a big city, by Canadian standards (6th largest in the country). We have a page about us on Wikipedia.

Wouldn't it be so fecking funny if we knew each other? I really doubt it though. Which part of Cleveland do you live? You live near the steelyards?
-
have you been to the rock n roll hall of fame? it looks like a cool idk what type of building.
-
I've gone there once when I was in elementary school. That was almost ten years ago. I really liked it. I'm sure everyone here would too. If you do decide to come to Cleveland, give it a visit. Maybe the Science Center too.

My rural, mercantile Swedish town has a wikipedia article in English. But I guess we're pretty famous in our country for having the largest ratio ever of natives to city folk wanderin' our streets in the summer - something around 6 to 1. Also, we're the hosts of a smaller tennis tournament that has more bang than buck. In a minor note, I work as the head of logistics at the tournament every summer. This information isn't on wikipedia yet!!

Also, Our town exploded.

yeah, more so after 9/11
our population almost doubled when we took those people in off the flights that were diverted here.
The Gander airport played an important role in world aviation in the immediate hours following the September 11, 2001 attacks when all of North America's airspace was closed by North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and 39 transatlantic flights bound for the United States were ordered to land at the airport—more flights than any other Canadian airport other than Halifax International. (Vancouver International received the most passengers, at 8,500.) Over 6,600 passengers and airline crew members unexpectedly found themselves forced to stay in the Gander area for up to three days until airspace was reopened and flights resumed. Residents of Gander and surrounding communities volunteered to house, feed, and entertain the travellers in what became known as Operation Yellow Ribbon.
