Title: Vista and Old Help Files (.hlp or something)
Post by: SW on November 04, 2008, 09:24:48 am
Basically, Vista doesn't support old help files (which includes RPGMAKER helpfile). They do give a fix with winhelp32.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 but it seems that there are some drawbacks (problems) that may occur.

So I want to ask (hopefully this is the correct place?) if installing this fix is a good idea or not (I kinda need the helpfile to be honest) or is there any alternative method or program to view old help files?

Fyi, I used to have this fix in the past, but a month ago, my laptop develop a tendency to shut down by itself when I am running programs/watching movies (so I sent it to the repair centre and got reformatted). I am not sure if these two things are related, but yeah, better safe than sorry this time.

Thanks in advance.

It says the macros will be disabled or something like that.

But if there are no other ways, I guess I will just download it.

If you don't use macros, shouldn't be an issue.

I'm guessing it's talking about the reader itself conflicting with macros?

To be honest, I am not even sure what these "macros" are.

Can someone give me example of what they are?

Macro's are usually recorded actions which can be played back.
