I was just curious to how many of you actually listen to metal..?
And what are some of your favourites?
Personally I fucking love it.. and some of my bands would be Sepultura, Testament, Opeth, Edge of Sanity, old Metallica and Slayer, DevilDriver, Cavalera Conspiracy, At the Gates and Aeveron.
Sorry if the topics been done before.
and oh yeah, Kalmah <3
-
I remember being really heavy into it, but gradually it just kind of got bland. I still like some death metal stuff like Cryptopsy and some more "progressive" stuff like Sikth and Meshuggah, but yeah, for the most part I've just kind of fallen out of it I guess. So to answer your question I like it a little. Not alot. Also this shit is gay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOmMZBZGBps).
-
Oh buddy, I hate Power Metal... don't even really like Maiden.
But the heavy death shit I haven't really gotten into except for maybe a few bands. I decided I'll start listening to the hardcore shit when I feel I'm ready. Cause I still am a newbie (about 2 years..)
-
I feel like I have been OVER-exposed to heavy metal, I used to listen to EVERY SINGLE band with a cool name and now shit all sounds the same.
I hate in alot of cases how the lyrics are so cliche and the songwriting is non existent, it gets dry so quickly.
Kalmah for instance is basically children of bodom.
-
Well, I mean, its kind of a stale scene as well. I like some death metal but in all honesty its become very samey. The only way to really tell bands apart is if you just dig into the technicality of the music which is pretty tedious and gay. Its lost alot of its appeal because like everything else its become samey. I mean, there are some pretty cool bands out there, but its not something mind blowing or anything. If you want some suggestions, Cryptposy is pretty awesome.. um, Death were pretty much the originators and they eventually went on to be more prog-death metal (I know, it sounds stupid). Theres also Tech Death but most of it is even more samey than regular death metal. Also Blast Beats up the ass, it gets pretty ridiculous. Melodeath is pretty sweet though. At The Gates is melodeath so maybe you would like more stuff along those lines.
edit: What afura said
-
Actually I hate Children of Bodom. I like Kalmah in the most part for some of the amazing guitar work that doesn't seem too overly done and sounds very good.

but dude you ALSO like hardcore which is the most samey shit i ever heard
-
do you know how cheesy this is brad? amon amarth/cob combined
-
Well, I'm more into Metalcore which has a vary wide variety of bands (but also manages to have the most copy bands as well heh heh) but yeah. Hardcore can get very samey as well, but like metal, I only listen to certain bands that really stand out to me like Black Flag and The Carrier which both of those are pretty different from each other. I'm not denying hardcore isn't samey because it is, but so is most metal as well.
-
I actually don't really like there two newest albums as much, the first three were better. If I were to go about picking a song in comparison;
-
in general I don't like metal because most of it is complete dick and I'm pretty sure I can count the modern metal acts I like on one hand! I do like a lot of the early NWOBHM though which I guess has more in common with punk than stuff like power metal. also Black Sabbath are a source of pride because of their origins and I like that they always had the blues-ey sound in their music. But god damn metal fans annoy me so much!
-
My current most-listened-to metal bands right now are:
X-Japan, Metallica, Deadlock and Megadeth... Not very exciting I know, but I have ventured way on these bands, I just ended up liking these the most.
And if no one has heard X-Japan's Art of Life, it's worth checking out (30 minutes of epicness).
Edit: Forgot Slayer for a minute there...
-
oh man I used to be a huge metalhead
now I really just like Opeth and a couple random bands here and there, but they usually tend to be fringe groups that do really crazy weird shit like Ephel Duath and Ulver
-
yeah I'm all about the fringe metal ALCEST etc but occasionally I just want to put on Darkthrone's FOAD and cheese the fuck out.
-
I still like Bal-Sagoth
I'll enjoy metal if it's on, but i'll only seek it out once in a while.
-
the only metal I really listen to now are like Priest's first few albums, The First two Maiden ones and the ones with Blaze -> Brave new world, Dickinson's solo stuff and the odd bit of Vai, Tipton or Devin Townsend.
The rest is really kinda yawn enducing for me. Especially thrash and "extreme" metals.
Kinda a turnaround from Kaw-CRANK UP THAT SYMPHONY-X-oru.
Edit: also Queensryche and the occasional Rainbow are cools.
-
I forgot to mention which ones I listen to: *Shels, Novembre, Quo Vadis, Black Dahlia Murder, some old in flames/dark tranquility, vintersorg
-
Also, in case anyone is considering getting the new Beneath The Massacre, its pretty much Mechanics of Dysfunction pt.2 with more tapping. Its still pretty decent if your into tech death, but I wouldn't slap down cash for it. Also Black Dahlia Murder owns. I've been listening to miasma more than usual.
-
My showed me Black Dahlia, pretty decent stuff.
-
I listen to symphonic metal and folk metal. Right now I am mostly into medieval metal...bands like In Extremo, Schandmaul, Subway to Sally...etc
-
yeah I'm all about the fringe metal ALCEST etc but occasionally I just want to put on Darkthrone's FOAD and cheese the fuck out.
oh yeah man the original really grindy black metal bands are hilarious/awesome at the same time. I especially enjoy some of Mayhem and Burzum's albums haha
also viking metal is really entertaining
-
medieval metal
-
stoner/doom/sludge metal
electric wizard
sleep
boris
and so on. . .
-
i LOVE sludge metal, man. my buds call me sludge (i have sludge tattooed on my right arm)
-
in "linley's dungeon crawl" there is a race called "sludge elf" and my motivation to play as them is the same as yours when you made that post (SLUDGE!)
-
Bort that is a very cool avatar
-
just to clarify its not just a tattoo of the word 'sludge' its actual sludge
-
Bort that is a very cool avatar
thanks!!! it's the cover of flying saucer attack's first album, either self-titled or called "rural psychedelia" depending on the release, with the colors fucked with and saturation turned up.
it's accurate that they called it "rural psychedelia" because it's what everything looks like on an acid trip. i live in florida, and it's very flat here, so you can see lots of sky. that and my town is sort of on an island between the beach and a river/strait/whatever on one side, so the weather and clouds are always interesting. so sunsets are great here, tripping or sober. there are tons of tall trees on my street and driving up it when the sun's setting so they're all black silhouettes is my favorite thing to do.
and it's not heavy metal but above britpop fan headphonics would maybe love flying saucer attack's cover of suede's "the drowners"
-
btw theres this french heavy metal band i kinda like, but it is only because their myspace classifies them as POST-PUNK//NEW WAVE//BLACK METAL and you are like what??? because one of their songs is really good and entirely post-punk and the next one starts off good but then suddenly and inexplicably devolves into black metal and i just do not know how you make a band like that. maybe it is two brothers and one likes postpunk and the other likes black metal and they each get 90 second turns
-
a two sides // same coin type situation yes?
-

i knew it looked familiar! you and your saturation.

Devourment, Decapitated, Malignancy, Putrid Pile, Decrepit Birth, The Faceless, Mayhem, Veil of Maya, Winds of Plague... I can't think of any more that I still actually listen to. Hmm...
Some of these fit into categories like metalcore, slam metal, and whatever else, but I don't really care.
-
Essentially, Opeth and anything Devin Townsend touches.
Speaking of which, he may well be booming out of retirement. I can't imagine much of a tour or anything, but he's bringing out a new album which is pretty instrumental and huge, apparently.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Townsend#New_Album:_Late_2008
-
I can't stand metal. Well, most metal. My older brother blasted it all the time. It's too cheesy.

New Faceless Leaked btw. Its pretty sweet.
-
I kidn of like gay metal like angra, stratovarius, blind guardian, iron maiden, dream theater and regular metal like van halen and megadeth. I really like the amount of technique/energy/cheesiness they display but it gets tiring if you listen too much of it.
-
whats some good NEW prog metal?
-
There is no such thing
-
I found a pretty cool less heard of melo/prog death band a little while ago;
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=91332824
They're pretty good. Eternal Fall is a sweet track.

Are you talking about Amesoeurs? Although Amesoeurs doesn't have many black metal moments... Maybe Poete Maudit?
I really love how one of you guys said death metal is all samey and then goes off saying but melo death and metalcore are awesome. I respect your opinion on what you like but dude... melo death and metalcore sounds so much the same and all the metalcore bands rip off At The Gates so bad. Also, Beneath The Massacre are really bleh. They used to actually trigger their guitars from what I heard.
I still love metal but I tend to like stuff that most metalheads dislike or just don't really know. Here's a list
Alcest
Amesoeurs
Anathema
Anorexia Nervosa
Deathspell Omega
Draconian
Empyrium
Estatic Fear
Foreshadowing
How Like A Winter
Katatonia
Longing For Dawn
My Dying Bride
Paradise Lost
Swallow The Sun
Warning
And a lot of other bands too.

ahahha i know dude, its like saying "hey yeah i know hiphop is so samey but you should def check out this g-unit stuff"

whats some good NEW prog metal?
new cynic man NEW CYNIC
-
My current most-listened-to metal bands right now are:
X-Japan, Metallica, Deadlock and Megadeth...
aaaaah hello me!
-
new cynic man NEW CYNIC
Yeah the new Cynic sounds pretty cool from what I've heard. I have the cardboard promo in my bag but I haven't listened to it yet. I also heard that Atheist reformed and will record some new stuff eventually. I personally don't really like most prog metal bands... Maybe Agalloch would be a good suggestion? They're not full out progressive but they're pretty frickin' good. Their last EP The White was more ambient but it's still extremely good. The band is supposedly atmospheric folk / dark metal whatever that means. Just check them out, it's worth it. A lot of people hate them but there's also a lot of people that love them so I guess it's hit or miss.
Less prog and death.... more doom!
-

I know, thats why I said metalcore has alot of samey bands, but early 90's metalcore with some 2000 metalcore ispretty varied and awesome. I mean, fuck, if you listened to Atreyu and then As I Lay Dying right after wards, you realize how fucking terribly samey they are. But when you put up stuff like Old Cave In and Botch next to each other its a completely different story.
Also couch, the new faceless album is pretty cool, its not so much prog but it plays around with it in some parts.
-
stoner doom, stoner doom. Not for TREND. Not for CORPORATE ATTITUDE. Not for STONER. Only true DOOM-MURDER HEADS.
-

Where could I find this? I tried to look up their myspace but could not find.
-
I've listened to metal for 4-5 years, and I currently listen to Ensiferum, Eluveitie, old Cradle of filth, Dark Tranquillity, As I Lay Dying, Pain Confessor, Killswitch Engage, Enslavement of Beauty, Caliban, Kalmah, Amon Amarth, Thyrfing, Ill nino, Estatic Fear, Linkin park (if they count xD). So basically melodeath and metalcore but I find it pretty hard to tell those two apart..
Also, I really don't think Kalmah is similar to children of bodom, I really hate cob, but I love Kalmah, except for their newest album. It has yet to find its way into my playlist.
-
LINKIN PARK DOES NOT COUNT YO ufOOL
-
Haha really sorry! They're what got me into metal though. I used to only listen to rap, then I heard numb/encore and decided to check them out. One thing led to another and soon Eminem and his badboy friends were out of my mp3 player for ever with only metal in their stead :D
I checked out the myspace link from the first page to a band called ESTERTOR, and yeah.. they were pretty good. Pretty nice melodies in those songs, especially Eternal Fall.
Does anyone like the really early stuff from In Flames and still enjoy the later stuff? The reason I'm asking is that everyone I talk to prefer either new In Flames or old In flames (the arguments being mainly "The old stuff is so boring!" or "The new stuff is for 14 year old nolifers"). I like all their stuff except the latest album that only has two or three good songs. I think the Jester Race is my favorite though, mainly because of the awesome guitar solo in december flower!
edit: What bands have you guys seen live?
I've seen Dark Tranquillity, Sonic Syndicate, Blofly, Amon Amarth, Tyr, In Flames, Engel, As I Lay Dying and Horse the Band. Next sunday I'm gonna see Dark Tranquillity(again :Dā), Dead By April and Engel(again). CAN'T WAIT!!
-
COUCH WHATCHA THINK OF THE FACELESS NEW ALBUM?!?!?!?!
good? y/n?
-
The first album I ever listened to in it's entirety was actually that first Linkin Park album many years ago. Great stuff. Everything else by them is horrible.
I always found In Flames to be pretty boring.
Vey you would probably also like Aeveron (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG34CmyCs6Y)

Nooo Linkin Park are great :D I never found In Flames boring, but I overexposed my ears to their music so I rarely listen to them anymore.
Also yeah, Aeveron was great, definitely gonna get me some of that. Thanks!
Does anyone like Dark Haven (http://www.myspace.com/darkhaven)? I think they're great (especially their song Infernal), but they never seem to get signed :/
-
Megadeth and Maiden are as metal as I get. Never liked Metallica and used to listen to shit like Dragonforce and Blind guardian but I lost interest in it. I listen to a lot of Rock and Catch tunes nowadays, and things with bitching Basslines.
http://www.myspace.com/caughtinthegale Is a local band I love that are ... Rock but have some Metal-esque songs. Their norm is a Muse/Smashing pumpkins with some Early Iron maiden and selective Megadeath covers.
-
whats some good NEW prog metal?
You could try Seventh Wonder's "Mercy Falls". It came out a few months ago. It's a concept album too. It's not too progressive but progressive enough (Dream Theater style).
-
Vey, nice variety in those bands. If you like Estatic Fear check out Empyrium's first two albums since the later two are just neo-folk. Enslavement of Beauty are nothing great but they're fun to listen to especially if you sing along to their lyrics hahahahaha.
I love old In Flames but I find new In Flames to just be bland and extremely boring.
-
whats some good NEW prog metal?
Try Disillusion, they're amazing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr5eGmM-49A&fmt=18). They have some of the best clean and death vocals I've ever heard. Scar Symmetry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y4WaL8rX9k&fmt=18) is kind of prog metal (they have clean vocals more akin to power metal) but really they're mostly melodic death metal. Some people call them pokemon metal, haha.

Incidentally enough I just got this album. The spoken parts are so dreadfully awful but it's pretty good.
Also my favorite kind of metal is vegetarian progressive grindcore.

To add more incidents, I recently got the newest Scar Symmetry album (Holographic Universe), while looking for the Seventh Wonder one. I must say I really like Scar Symmetry. A really well done blend of some metal sub-genres. It was a really pleasant surprise for me since I just felt like buying some new music and couldn't find the one I was looking for. Speaking of pleasant surprises and prog, if you still haven't tried my #1 album of 2007, Voyager's "UniVers", do yourself a favor and try it out!
-
I like scar symmetry, but there like Opeth's little brother.
-

Haha yeah I guess my list goes a little back and forth between subgenres; I used to bounce around between subgenres and have periods of only metalcore, or only folk-ish stuff, or w/e but now I always have difficulty choosing what I feel like listening to at a given time, it's really hard unless I mix all of those bands in a single playlist which leads to it being like 600 songs long or something..
I checked out Empyrium and they were great! Don't kill me or anything, but I somehow felt that they were a little similar to Enslavement of Beauty, maybe that's just me though. And yeah, EoB's lyrics are nice :D

I really don't see what's similar between the two but hey, that's your opinion hahaha.
Am I the only one that finds Scar Symmetry to be terrible? I saw them live last september and they're probably one of the worst bands I've seen live (Samael comes in first though). Their guitarist kept screwing up and their solos were just really boring wankyness. I received the cardboard promo of their most recent album and I still found them extremely boring (if anyone wants it PM me, we can surely arrange something). They seem to be this really ubber popular metal band for 16 year olds but I just can't understand why. To my ears there's just nothing that's really great about them. Hell, I'd listen to the new In Flames more than Scar Symmetry.
-
I've never actually got too into them, but Pitch Black Progress (the song not album) was pretty cool. It could of been longer though.
-
Maiden is the fucking best, woo go Iron Maiden, let's talk more about Maiden, UP THE IRONS and all that goofy british shit.
Actually Iron Maiden is a really stupid band but I mean WITHOUT A STILLSUIT YOU WOULD FRY ON THE SANDS SO HOT AND DRY IN A WORLD... CALLED ARRAKIS haha man they are so awesome.
-
up the irons is west ham you clutz
-
up the irons is west ham you clutz
whatever man it was all over their album booklets, I don't know what that shit means!! you kooky brits.
-
yes. iron maiden are west ham fans. up the irons is like saying 'go red sox' or whatever.
-
I went on youtube to see what scar symmetry are like. I admit that I only listened to one song but it felt like a boring band so I guess I agree with dark crystalis.
And Iron Maiden sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 (except hallowed be thy name, fear of the dark (both of these have been covered by better bands though) and that song about an albatross and a ship that is based on a poem)
-
Its cool to be joining a community with fellow metal fans :)ā.
My favorite bands:
Amon Amarth (My most favorite)
Edge of Sanity
Bloodbath
Kalmah
In Flames
Dissection
Dethklok
Children of Bodom
DragonForce
Lord gore
Katalepsy
Rush
Salt the wound - (Not metal, but hard core metal)
Lamb of God - (Not metal, but metal core)
-
Edge of Sanity's Crimson album is amazing. It's well worth 40 minutes of you time to listen through at least once; some info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimson_(Edge_of_Sanity_album)).
Heres a youtube playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F7D9B1EAABB71D39
But yeah it's pretty awesome progressive, melodic stuff.
On Iron Maiden a lot of people say they love them but I can't really get into them. The vocals just seem cheesy, as well as all other power metal.
-
Crimson I and II is frickin' awesome! I still prefer Purgatory Afterglow a little bit more though. I just love that album.
-
By the way in all seriousness Iron Maiden is a really cheesy and goofy band but I was obsessed with them like 5-6 years ago and now I think they are hilarious and as Steel said with whatever band he mentioned earlier I just like to cheese out to Maiden.
-
heaps of these people were my idols when i was like 16
-
On Iron Maiden a lot of people say they love them but I can't really get into them. The vocals just seem cheesy, as well as all other power metal.
ffff why are iron maiden and power metal in the same sentence ?!?
-
Fucking MISFITS.
-
--
-
I like metal... I use to like hammerfall
Some of my Favorits now are
Deadlock
Scar Symmetry
Epica
Nightwish
Opeth
Circus Maximus
Ayeron..
and the list goes on but I cant recall some.
-
Ahahaha, gotta love heavy fuckin' metal and friggin' hard rock, they're my favorite kind of music. I do tolerate other kinds of music (except for (c)Rap, hip-hop, techno, country, R&B, DISCO, or even skin music AKA bubblegum teen pop).
My favorite kind of bands are the classic 70's-early 80's metal bands, ESPECIALLY bands that emerged from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene, like Iron Maiden, early Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Cloven Hoof, Angel Witch, Grim Reaper, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Satan, Venom, Saxon, etc. etc. etc.
You can't say shit about Ozzy (back in his Sabbath hippie days ONLY!) or even Dio.. Ozzy may be the prince of darkness, but Dio is the GOD of metal..
I also love 90's Pantera's shit and who couldn't forget the AMAZING Dimebag Darrell, man.. That guy just ripped Pantera's music to the max with each album getting heavier and heavier from album to album.
As for Metallica, well, only their first album (Kill 'Em All) was any good. Eversince then, they started getting overrated and suddenly went MAINSTREAM with the "Black" album.
PS: Oh, don't worry, I fucking HATE emo bands and anyone who passes My Chemical Romance as "metal" needs to be shot... on the kneecaps!
-

Kill em all, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and And Justice were all great albums dude..
Also Slayer 8 bit:
-
I just came home from close up made us do it :D Dark Tranquillity were sooooo good! I wanna see them a third time right now <3<3<3<3 [/fanboy]
Also, when the singer in dead by april threw his water bottle out in the crowd I caught it in the air with only one hand :fogetbackflip:
-
Do you guys like protest the hero?
-
PTH is pretty cool. I wouldn't really call them full on metal though. Depends on what album your talking about early pth was more punk/hardcore influenced while the most recent shit is more metal.
-
Yeah I mean Fortress.
Someone explain why Kill Em All is a good album. (it isn't!)
-
Fortress was pretty good. Bit shred happy but still good.
-
Someone explain why Kill Em All is a good album. (it isn't!)
i really liked kill em all back in the day but i tried listening through it recently and... it was disappointing. the three following albums were as good as i remembered tho
so yeah kill em all isnt really that good but its interesting for metallica fans
-
Fortress was pretty good. Bit shred happy but still good.
I actually thought it was one of the best albums of this year (deff in my top 10).
-
well in terms of breaking ground it was pretty important but isn't really good, it's a pretty mediocre album in terms of the actual songs. lars is right, their next couple of albums were much better!
-
I like scar symmetry, but there like Opeth's little brother.
They are not quite that close. More like a half cousin that died. Opeth is Progressive death metal where as Scar Symmetry is Melodic death.
Progressive Death Metal: Progressive death metal incorporates a variety of influences from genres such as jazz fusion, progressive rock and European classical music into general death metal aesthetics to compose music that is thought to be unexpected, difficult to play and often difficult to comprehend. Songs tend to be written without distinct choruses, with varied or layered time signatures, and sometimes dissonant guitar riffs.
Melodic Death Metal: Originally the genre combined the harmony style and groove melodies of heavy metal with the harsh thrashing sound and vocals of death metal. Later the genre evolved due to many different influences, a notable evolution in the genre being the addition of keyboards. Melodic death metal contains more melodic guitar riffs, melodic solos, and acoustic guitar work than death metal. It also contains more comprehensible lyrics with traditional death growl and screaming vocals.
On another note one of my friends that had introduced me to Scar Symmetry sent me a link to one of there youtube videos and I had watched like 10 seconds of it and I hated the death growls. I gave the video another shot and I loved the clean vocals and then soon I loved it all.

I know the difference between the two; But the general feel of the tracks I have heard are pretty similar especially in "Pitch Black Progress". I was actually quite fond of the death growls but not so much of the clean vocals.
As far as melodic death metal goes though, Kalmah is definitely top notch stuff though.
-
I don't like Kalmah, they're not bad or anything it's just that to me they didn't have anything that makes them really stand out. To me they sounded like quite a few bands from the same corner of the world.

I just found a very kickass "newschool" thrash band. So far everything I've heard on their page and videos on Youtube are just awesome.

Their singer totally sucks but their music is fairly thrashin.
-
I think he's pretty good, with a feel of old school.
-
Yeah its not his voice really, although he does sound a bit teenage, but he just does some lame rhythmic stuff and isn't very cool.
-
HeXeN was pretty nice, including the vocals. Seditions in peacetime has a cool guitar solo.

Lordi are about to kick off a new US tour which is pretty awesome. I know some of you probably like them. Here's the tour dates if you didn't know them:
11/12/08 Wed @ House of Blues - Las Vegas, NV
11/13/08 Thu @ House of Blues - San Diego, CA
11/16/08 Sun @ Glasshouse Music Hall - Pomona, CA
11/17/08 Mon @ House of Blues - LA, West Hollywood, CA
11/20/08 Thu @ Gothic Theatre - Eaglewood, CO
11/22/08 Sat @ House of Blues - Chicago, IL
11/23/08 Sun @ House of Blues - Cleveland, OH
11/24/08 Mon @ The Fillmore NY @ Irving - NYC, NY
For those of you that don't know... Lordi won the Eurovision contest a few years ago representing Finland. They're pretty big everywhere in the world. They aren't extremely heavy or anything, it's very rocky to be honest. Quite a few people find them amusing.

you mean it started a week ago? haha
but man they are in cleveland on sunday if what you've got is right that would be something to behold haha
-
wow, I didn't realize it was already started hahahaha. I'm surprised their tour is so small, I mean it's not like they're a small band or something.
-
Currently uploading Hexen's album to zshare for a friend; pm if interested..
-
lordi are fucking ridiculous.
-
Yeah I listen to metal. I like Slipknot, Metallica. I also like stuff like Dragonforce and Hammerfall. Disturbed are ok but some of their songs really annoy me for some reason.
-
Yeah I listen to metal. I like Slipknot,
lol
-
hey, doesn't everyone
-
lordi are so awful, ugh.
-
ive seen lordi live
dont do it
-
speaking of lordi
i really want to see gwar live

If I listen to metal, I usually go for old-school bands like Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Master's Hammer, Tormentor, Bathory, then maybe on to possessed, entombed, old Kreator stuff. Or mixed stuff like AMEBIX (truly awesome band) or The Locust (FOKFOKFOKWOOA)
Or, if I'm not in the old-school mood, I usually go for bands such as Deathspell Omega, Darkthrone, Burzum, Behemoth, Fullmoon, Mayhem, Craft, Watain, Urfaust, Nile, Marduk, Arkha Sva, Nåstrond, Arckanum and so on.
But really metal is gay.

I'm going to see Gwar in december hehehehe.
Mr. Nemo, Deathspell Omega are so good. Their albums are pretty frickin' awesome. I have Si Monvmentvm Reqvires Circvmspice in LP format and it sounds extremely different than the CD version.

Well, to my common knowledge, LP always sounds different. But is it more different than usual? Anyhow, I started listening to them about the same time they released SMRC and I've listened to the older and newer records aswell. Not only is their music good but they sure know aesthetics and have something to say with their lyrics, which is something of a must when it comes to black metal.
-

agreed LOL.
Slipknot is the radios version of heavy metal. Its lame and it makes me want to vomit :blarg: (most of there songs anyhow they have a couple that are OK). I use to listen to Hammerfall and Dragonforce but I now hate them because I and my music styles grew up.

It sounds different way more than usual to me. Not only does it have that "old" sound like all LPs but it just sounds way darker and more like if it was played in a frickin' cave. You should really see the art included with the LP, it's insane. They're one of the few black metal bands that they're lyrics aren't just simple Christianity bashing and praising Satan. They have very very interesting lyrics to be honest. I still don't really understand the Kenose lyrics/concept. You might want to check out Negura Bunget hehe
Btw, I should get an autographed Lordi picture soon, anyone care to buy it?
-

What are you talking about? Fuck you condescending asshole! Slipknot are artists!

What do you guys think of MTV's Headbanger's Ball? I personally like their older episodes but I guess that's simply because I prefer metal that's a bit older. There's still some interesting stuff but meh... Anyways, here's a link to vote for their video of the year if you're interested.

Please vote for Cavalera Conspiracy Sanctuary..

I think headbangers ball is okay, but in my country it airs like 00:00-02:00 on sunday nights so I rarely watch it. Anyway, I went to the page and voted once for Amon Amarth - Twillight of the Thundergod and once for As I Lay Dying - The Sound Of Truth cuz those songs are sooo good!

Yeah, I've heard about extended artwork, so I will try to get my hands on an LP version some day.
Well, I'd say say DSOs lyrics are something in that direction, with a twist of theology lol. As long as the band are serious with what they express in their lyrics and aren't completely retarded, chances are I will enjoy their music. And aren't american, I'm sorry to say; I've never heard any good north-american black metal, and I've heard alot.
Negura Bunget I'm familiar with but not really crazy about.
-
I couldn't bring myself to convincingly argue that slipknot are good so instead my previous post just came off as the trite easy sarcastic joke that everyone expected someone to make. Great.
-
i love mainstream metal....

The only American black metal bands I found alright are Leviathan and Lurker of Chalice. The rest is very very very lame. There's a few good bands in Canada though. Sadly most bands in America only reproduce what has already been done which is completely retarded. But in general, black metal seems to be extremely stale right now which is sad. Most fans of BM are the biggest frickin' sheep and idiots I've seen in my entire life.
The new Doom:VS album Dead Words Speak is AWESOME. I didn't enjoy the first album but this one is pure genius. I was playing it at my videostore friday night and I was really impressed.
-
I wanted to ask you guys... what do you think about Gaahl being gay? I've seen quite a few "kvlt" people get pissed because of that which I don't understand since he's exactly following the principles of black metal: opposition and individualism. I personally don't care about his sexual orientation, it doesn't change his music, most of it is still boring. I respect him for having the guts to say that though...
A few bands to check out:
Amesoeurs (black metal mixed with new wave?)
Ataraxie (funeral death/doom that can get rather brutal)
Warning (crushing epic doom, definitely one of the most depressing bands)
How Like A Winter (beautiful gothic doom metal)
Wedard (really frickin' great black metal that would later draw a lot of influence from Katatonia)
This thread must not die...

Their is an American Blackened Death band Band called Abigail Williams that's pretty damn good, If you like that kind of music.
-
I listened to them... they weren't anything great. They have a very very big core influence so you have to be into that to appreciate them.
-
Abigail Williams is alot better than that cheesy how like a winter crap. Sounds like evanescence.
