Title: True blood
Post by: Rage on November 10, 2008, 10:26:45 pm
Got HBO?  Then it might be a good time to check out what it has On-Demand, its new series (and a hit if I might add):  True Blood

I know I know, another annoying vampire thing?  Well actually, this series has quite the twist to keep you with a thirst for more.

The basics:  The Japanese have perfected a substitute for blood:  TrueBlood, and it looks and tastes like blood, and it is the new life force for those vampires that wish to "Mainstream" (live in the open).  So now the world has creatures walking about that they thought were myths, and in the midst of this the story takes places in a small town in Louisiana, Bon Temps.  Sookie, the main character, can read peoples thoughts and one day, a man walked into her place of work who's thoughts she could not read:  A Vampire named Bill Compton.  He later  turns out to be their new neighbor.  Also, throughout this series the campires are struggling for citizenship and rights.  I wish to stop there to not spoil anything.

This has to be one of my most favorite series out there, and like my corny locution states, it still has my on my toes.  I can't wait for the next episode;  All new episodes are on at 9:00EST on Sundays.  Does anyone else like this series?  Well if you decide to get into it, come back and post here.

Yeah im a huge fan myself, infact I just finished watching the latest episode. Must admit it took me 3 episodes to actually get into this new show but glad I did. Found the vampire fangs a little cheesy at first but not so much anymore. The story is real interesting at the mo and im sure if it gets a second season they will introduce alot more creatures to the mix.

The idea of a world of people living alongside vampires is rather interesting, cant wait too see more!

i've been watching it and most of the dialogue seems like it's from a cutscene it's really bad

my friend really likes it and she gets pissed when i make fun of it, even though she has also acknowledged that it is dumb as hell

but like every single time there is any exposition it is the least natural thing in the world, it just sounds like you're picking one of three possible responses and they are giving you the background on vampire eating habits, and you continue until you have heard all the background information

Are you Darkjak's new account or something

All you do is go around and post little TEASER TOPICS like this with cheesy PR lines like "Well actually, this series has quite the twist to keep you with a thirst for more." I mean, maybe you're just talking about stuff you like but you've posted four of these topics now that I know of.

anyway go nuts for donuts.

btw i just watched a few eps and this show kinda blows.  HERE'S A NEEDLESSLY LONG POST ON WHY:

-too much fucking.  lol what ami some kinda fagot??? yes possibly but seriously it is the same transparent shit you see on a lot of other showtime/hbo shows that is essentially YES WE CAN DO THIS watch this show for a series of softcore porn scenes that will not leave you feeling like a scumbag.  there is just a ton of nudity and fucking and when there is not there is anna paquin et al dressed in skimpy outfits, 100% of the time.  this creates a hardcore sense of dissonance because the lead is presented as a NICE GIRL and this is mostly how she acts but she dresses in getups that are clearly just FANSERVICE basically and that no modest chick would wear.  i do not like shows who clearly make very unabashed efforts to FLAUNT THEIR STARS' SHIT for the sake of ratings.

-that last point leads to the next one, and that is many of the characters are rather INEXPLICABLE.  the main one does not seem particularly realistic and just DOES SHIT p much without any of it forming a definitive idea of her personality.  she is not a cohesive character.  also her grandma is old and living in fucking louisiana and loves the fucking civil war but somehow IS NOT RACIST and is actually ridiculously tolerant which is just unrealistic.  best friend is also a sassy, uppity black.  and man yeah black southern people LOOOOOOVE flamboyant gays so that one who is always trying to get with straight black dudes would not be ostracized or fucked up at all (just fyi straight young black guys love having their heterosexuality brought into question so do that as often as you can.  if there are two things the dirty south is known for they are 1) gettin crunk//ridin dirrty and 2) complete tolerance and acceptance of openly gay men who wear makeup).  seriously it is just a series of characters that actively make you go WAIT WHAT???

-odd characters + the fact that the show just PRESENTS you with this situation that is absurd.  it is not so great at the suspense of disbelief thing.  like there is no lead in, it is just HERE HAVE A PSYCHIC AND SOME VAMPS.  the first ep felt like it shouldve been the second or third.  as a result of there being no lead in, they're constantly explaining things/catching you up, and like esiann said the exposition is uniformly bad.  they just throw random facts at you with very little excuse beyond YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS thinly veiled as a news broadcast or some shit.

-trashy tv acting!!!!  seriously no one is good but the vamps are fucking terrible.  hehe im a badass *licks fangs*.  it is all really cheesy and when they try to act imposing/menacing/ it is even worse.  also the budget blows or something because the fighting is all god awful and the effects they use for showing SUPER SPEED/STRENGTH are v corny.  it comes off like a show that should be on saturday afternoons in between seaquest and that one where they're on an island with dinosaurs and savages for some reason.

ahaha man i'm such a loser for watching this.  idk why i did.  it's not good at all, though!  although anna paquin is hot and i never realized this

I didn’t like the show until I became interested in the small cliff-hanger at the end of episode 3, after watching a few more episodes I began to get past all the sex which I'd agree theres too much off (I must be gay?) and began liking the story more.
Sure the graphics aren’t great but I feel its different enough from Buffy/angel to make it interesting and new... know any other vampire shows out there worth watching?

I have a feeling it wont make a second season which is unfortunate since there aren’t any other good vamp shows out there apart from the previously mentioned angel and Buffy show which ive seen over 100,596,483 times...

If your like me and wana watch a show filled with vamps then I'd say just give it a try, its not for everyone as you can tell from all the previous posts.

If you are the type to get annoyed with small details and odd character personalities then this show is probably not for you, ah well

also i don't things like bad characters/acting are "small details" but i guess thats just me!

i read a good breakdown of the popularity of the twilight series. vampires represent the opposite of animal instinct; they are dignified immortals who are frail and the epitome of class. yet they still have that one aspect to struggle against, bloodlust, which makes them even more irresistable; unlike boring normal men vampires struggle against something they have no choice in having. so it's so fuckin romantic for women to think about a man who constantly struggles against himself out of love...for you...he wont hurt you but its so hard and hes so...so noble.

I hope I got it across sorry my side hurts.

No, and there's a reason for this.

Also modern vampires are made gay, classical Bela Lugosi type vampires are where it's at.

Well if you like Anime, you should check out blood+.  It is sort of a lengthy series, with a (in my opinion) cut off ending.  However, it has a really nice story line and its not kiddie.  Other than that I wouldn't know of any good ones.

Well as with all HBO series, its a hit or miss.  People like it or they don't.  Some series you just can't watch, it makes you think.  This is one of those series;  Yeah I would have to agree though that the acting could be better.  As for the fucking, its HBO's habbit.  All their series have a lot of fucking in it.  Like Rome, it was a great series and people were having sex left and right.

All you do is go around and post little TEASER TOPICS like this with cheesy PR lines like "Well actually, this series has quite the twist to keep you with a thirst for more." I mean, maybe you're just talking about stuff you like but you've posted four of these topics now that I know of.

Quite an observant one you are. :)  Sorry, I am not quite the advocate of wall's of text when it comes to games and movies (T.V. series, etc).  I know when I am looking for something to watch, I don't go reading books of descriptions, I look at key points.  Infact, most gaming companies and movie producers do the same, and an option for more of course.  The way I post is to get peoples attention, and not drive them away with a wall of text.  Who am I to assume the way of how people do things?  If they like it, they will look more into it.  If they don't, they will generally ask for more info;  I will most humbly post more if the occasion calls for it, as for all of the topics posted I am generally enthusiastic about.

Are you Darkjak's new account or something

Um...  No.... But thanks for the warm welcome...

you mean we can't watch it because it makes us think? yeah this is really thought-provoking shit. i have watched every single episode and the book series that it's based on seems like twilight for a slightly more mature audience.

yeah you just have posted a whole bunch of topics in the same format and they're kind of just a picture and some line from a press release, and you just joined, and its kind of weird and and and *collapses*

Just a non traditional way of introducing myself.  Might I add, everything I do not quote comes straight from me.  I don't consider 4 topics a whole bunch.  None of them are face palm topics either, but I can clearly see this probably isn't the place for me, when I try to introduce myself with some topics (Justified, could have sworn I was posting with like minded people) and all I get is: "why u commin up in'er message board, postin messages'n shit, whichyo fancy pictures'n writen'n what not. itz gawdang vewdew i tellz ya".

I like the show. I've always been semi-interested in vampires because they seem like fun and it's always fun to see different takes on them (and how they fuck them up). I've rather enjoyed this show, the setting is nonstandard and the style is nice. It suffers a bit from "Everyone's a weirdo", but I got over that.

And it has Alexander Skarsgård. That's instant win every time he's on screen.

Sure it's a bit obvious on the racial tones and the us/them issue (The humans all love their niggers and faggots but hates the vampires. Ooh it's so deep and profound they are not racists, but they are racist toward vampires ooh ooh)

So yeah I guess I can see why people wouldn't enjoy it. I still do though. I wouldn't mind a bit less sex, but I suppose it comes with the vampire genre.

I feel kind of embarrassed to admit it but I've always had a thing for vampires.

Especially so considering my mom's only source of literature is apparently those shitty vampire/werewolf sex novels for middle aged women.

She's read thousands of them. I'm not even joking about the thousands part. it's all she reads! If it has vampires, werewolves, and the cover is a guy with his shirt off, she's read it.

From the sounds of it, this is pornographic.
