Title: SAT Chemistry Subject Test help?

This is somewhat straightforward. I've taken Chemistry in 9th grade, then I took a Dual Enrollment/college level course of it last year in 11th grade. Now, I'm set up to take the Chemistry subject test in 2 weeks from tomorrow.

It was sort of all of the sudden because I didn't see that two of the colleges I want to apply to require a science subject test of either physics or chemistry (I'm currently in dual enrollment physics so I'm stuck doing chem!).


So basically, does anyone have anything I should go look at to review for this subject test. I'm rather bad with chemistry, but it's my only option in this case, so I'm trying to find things to help me out, review, etc. I borrowed out an advanced chemistry book from my teacher from last year, and I've read/taken notes on the first two chapters, but that's just general ideas/concepts I needed to refresh...

But is there anything out there really worth looking into to refresh/learn?

I can't really help outside of saying "check out those help books" but what the hell when did the SAT cover Chemistry? is this the SAT II?

does the collegeboard website have any practice tests you can take? try to find some of those

On the "Chemistry Subject Test Hub" or whatever they called it, there had 26 practice questions in the format of the test.

I got 8 out of 26 right, which is why I realized I really need to refresh. Furthermore, it makes me feel bad cause I should have signed for this back when I had the class, but the two schools that need them were not really in my list of schools back then.

Yes, sparknotes will save your LIFE. Saved mine for the physics SAT. Okay no, I hardly studied (and I did sort of bad), but everyone who did well refreshed with sparknotes and the actual SAT books. Seeing as how you'll be taking this soon, (isn't this like December 1st?) you'd better get cracking.

i took this a couple years ago but i don't remember much. it sucked. i thought i did a lot worse than i ended up doing though. there was a periodic table provided but i don't remember if it had all the important information on it. lots of questions regarding gases.

also yeah taking those practice tests really helps.

So Boyle's law of partial gases or whatever, and the PV=nRT thing. God. Chemistry was so long ago. Good luck with that -- yeesh. You sure you can't take physics?

I'm in a college-level class of physics right now...but this is my first time ever seeing physics. Also it's a little too late for that!

I took AP physics last year and we didn't go over HALF of what was in the SAT-II physics test. But I think I did pretty well despite that. Anyway, I see your point, and it was a good call on your part.

It might help to remember that you don't need a calculator for the SAT-IIs (other than math-II). You can pretty much blaze through the chem test if you know basic material.

Which state are you applying to?

in highschool chemistry was my lowest graded subject. grade 11 was a 51% and grade 12 was a 34%. Ironically  now, chemistry is my major in chemical engineering.

half of chemistry is unit conversion, keeping track of what units you're working with, and which ones you're solving for

Keep that in mind, be sure to remember the important numbers(avagadro's and the gas constant), and commit to memory the important formulas.

I know a little bit about chemistry, but not a lot. I prefer the physics aspect; such as the gas laws and other things. Chemistry is easy, it just requires a little bit more studying than usual if you aren't used to it.
Remember your type of reactions: Decomposition, synthesis, sngle/double replacement, acid/base, combustion, and others if there are any. Yeah, and know all of the formulas and constants as DC said. Not sure what else to say! Good luck I guess.

if this is a highschool sat chem test i bet most of it is just plug and chug. just do a bunch of excersizes, and you will probably start seeing patterns. even if you dont get the shit after a while you know that certain things they ask mean certain equations. this is how i got a 4.0 in college level chem.

if you can use a ti83 abuse the fuck out of it. put all the things that require just grinding, like memorizing. there is software out there for typing the stuff in the computer and then trasnfering it.

Unfortunately, you can't use a calc on the chem subject test.

He wouldn't have the time to look back and forth between calc and question anyway. They barely give us enough time to process the frigging information and finish the test.

Focus on getting what you know correct if you're a slow test-taker like me. If you have to spend an entire minute thinking about how to solve a certain problem, skip it and come back to it later. It's better that you finish easier problems because they're all weighted the same anyway.

yeah i know it's just for some reason i get confused like fuck when doing chemistry work.

i remember pv=nrt, the gas constant is 0.831 (i believe), avogadro's is 6.022 x 10^23....

and idk some other shit but i just suck when taking tests on it. i'll see how it goes!

I hated Chemistry, and I did horrible on my SATs.

I don't remember if they had physics on there or not.
