Live news coverage.
So far, 7 places in total are under attack including a hotel and a hospital.
-
I've started watching this now as well...
Thing that stands out to me is how people are saying that it was a police van that the firing was coming from, I don't really know what's going on because no previous information is coming through. Could you maybe update the topic with what has already happened?
-
someone find me a news link, this damn stream isn't loading and I've got family there.
-
If it doesn't work try refreshing once. That did it for me.
Here's al-Jazeera's coverage so far: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia/2008/11/2008112617472965818.html
-
I'm not sure why it's not working for you steel. There's 18 dead so far, there's so many areas of attack... VT station, Taj motel, Cama Hospital, Metro Cinema...
and btw army are moving now.
NOW there's more firing at metro cinema.... fuck tonnes of screaming on the stream. It sounds horrible
-
i got it working inchrome just in time to see a guy get shot jesus christ.
-
This is the first time I've ever actually witnessed live feeds like this since 9/11, the reality of the situation is so much more shocking now, especially when people were getting shot right on camera.
-
oh my god my uncle i sin the hospital today. i dont know what the name of it is, but can anyone find out what district cama hospital is in? my mom knows the district, but not the name and cama is being attacked.
-
Man Steel my dad was actually in New York during the 9/11 attacks (he used to go there a lot) so I kind of know what that feels like. It was fucking hell until the organization responsible for the conference called us 3-4 hours after the collapse to tell us he was safe...
All I could find was FORT MUMBAI I dunno if that's a district though?
-
Shit apparently they're inside the hotel throwing bombs and grenades around.
-
holy shit holy shit!
oh my god steel, i don't know what to say!
i guess Lars found this page: http://yellowpages.sulekha.com/mumbai/health-services-medicine/hospitals-medical-centers/general/mumbai-g-p-o/cama-hospital.htm

The news in India is so much more graphic.
Or maybe I just don't watch the news enough.
-
I don't know what's more bizarre. The fact that a bunch of people are trying to kill as many as they can, or the fact we're watching it live. If you're interested, there's probably a live feed up at your favorite news station, I'm watching it on CNN right now.
-
(http://gamingw.net/pubaccess/55151/camahospital.PNG)
you're right Dada this is really surreal watching it live, hearing the gunshots and screams is terrifying.
-
hes okay! hes in another hospital.
-
fuck now they may be mobile :(
-
hes okay! hes in another hospital.
Thank god!
-
How many of you are expecting like a crazed vehicle or an explosion to happen in the background when the news reporters start speaking live on the streets in front of the camera? Like, I've got my finger hovering over Print Screen for some reason...
EDIT: 3 Blasts, 2 in Taj hotel... Other in Oberoi
-
I only just started watching now can anyone fill me in on whats going on as of now?
edit: western hostages?..
-
Shit, western citizens (hundreds) being gathered and held hostage, this is crazy.
-
CNN said 18 people were killed so far.
-
Nah, the current count is 40 dead, 150 injured
EDIT: 55 dead, 190 injured
-
80 dead 250 injured according to wikipedia
-
now saying 55 dead on the live steeam
4 police dead.
-
christ, must've been 18 more people killed. This is horrible.
-
55 dead, 190 injured now...
-
BBC news just said 80 dead 200 injured.
Rounded figures, i assume.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. I wonder who's behind it.
-
Yeah doin't trust wiki.
-
I'm watching now and the guy said 50 something dead, I dunno. My ears are dodgy this morning.
This is pretty horrible. Wasn't expecting to wake up and find out about this.
-
Also there might be a hostage situation. This seems to get worse every second.
Yeah, foreign tourists are being held at a hotel.
-
I'm pretty sure Steel is more able to post info about this, but chances are the terrorists are of Islamic background and have ties to Pakistani areas. As most of you probably know, but I suspect not all, Pakistan and India are bitter enemies, and both countries have Nuclear Weapons. If it turns out these guys are of Pakistani background, India is most likely going to demand some kind of retaliation against the tribal areas and chances are, Pakistan is going to refuse.
Last time India and Pakistan was on the verge of war was about 6 years ago iirc. So yeah, as gruesome as this event is, the possible consequence is the real horror. Indian-Pakistani relations is the current biggest threat to world peace, Al-Qaida, Iran and North-Korea are nothing but flies in comparison.
But yeah I'd really like it if someone with knowledge on this area posted what this might mean???
edit: My knowledge in this field is very limited and shallow, I'll admit that, but I seriously doubt India is going to accept open warfare in one of their biggest cities.
-
Man the Anti-Terrorist Chief Commisioner has been shot dead.
-
Encounter specialist, dead.
-
Jesus fucking christ... This is horrific.
-
60 dead now, 200 injured. At least, anyway.
-
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Terrorists_strike_Mumbai_80_dead_many_hurt/articleshow/3761410.cms
-80 dead.
-
blaaaaah well it's 5:30am here now, I can't stay awake anymore.
I just hope things don't escalate any further, but either way I'm going to leave this streaming so I can listen to it.
-
its now on BBC and CNN on tv now, for me anyway. Earlier it was just on the live stream.
-
This is so horrific and fucked up. Completely random and unexpected.
Eh, I'm going to stop watching now. Hopefully it comes on NZ tv sometime today. It's serious enough.
-
Besides terrorizing people, what do they want?
-
They've got foreign tourists as hostages so they definately want something.
No information about what they want has come out yet, I think.
-
A organization known as Deccan Mujahiddin claimed responsibility. - Wikipedia
EDIT: SOURCE
An unknown outfit, Deccan Mujahideen, has sent an email to news organizations claiming that it carried out the Mumbai attacks.

Besides terrorizing people, what do they want?
Don't even try trolling this up.
-
I don't think wikipedia is the best source right now, but who knows right
-
I've only seen one piece of misinformation on it about hostage numbers, but that got edited out in seconds. Wikipedia's usually pretty good on events that are occuring as it generally ups the information as it comes in, like in the GeorgiaRussian war, Wikipedia was getting updates before the BBC.
But let's not derail this with another wikipedia debate.
-
Don't even try trolling this up.
I'm not trolling they are holding hostages aren't they? This means they want something
-
The hostages just prolong the time it takes for the army to get in and steamroll them. If they didn't take any hostages the whole thing would be over way too fast because as soon as the army got on scene they would shoot them all dead and it would be over.
-
They haven't released any demands, but more than likely they want to use the hostages to demand media coverage for a spokesman to give some crazy rant.
-
(http://gamingw.net/pubaccess/58608/terroristnov26close.jpg)
CNN is asking people to try to identify a terrorist that has been photographed: (thanks Cyborgasm)
Total of 78 dead, 200 wounded civilian.
Hotel: 15 terrorists. Age 20 to 25. Wielding AK-47's and wearing HUGE amounts of explosions.
2 Terrorists shot, 9 suspects detained.
3 Policemen dead and 15 wounded.
The video provided showed that the terrorists struck from a police jeep. The shooting has been apparently pretty mindless and no-one particulary has been targeted, even thought the choice of dead policen is grotesque (e.g. Encounter Specialist, ATS Chief, etc)
Hotel Taj Majal. A reporter has managed to snuck inside, confirming that there are total of 200 people in the hall. I missed how much foreigners there are, perhaps 40? 3 MP's, 100 tourists. Navy, police and SRF trying to enter the hotel.
Hotel Oboroi. Hostage situation. The army commandos are inside the hotel, a loud blast + firing was heard from the inside just now! No information on what is going inside.
Some indian policeman is speaking english now, i don't understand what he is saying (thick accent)... There's so much information in the headlines in CNN Livefeed (e.g. Shooting in the Borivari area) that i'm not sure whether it's correct or not.

yeah here was the terrorist they asked to identify

i print screened it from the live stream a little while back.

Indian Mujahideen threatens to target Mumbai
Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, September 14, 2008
-
Indian Mujahideen gives a lot of hits, on an organization that has attacked India several times, and seems to be a domestic militant islamic group. That they're domestic is of great significance, though, since it means the chance of this evolving into a regional crisis is a lot slimmer.
-
but because they have links with the student islamic movement, there are risks of this just being one attack, that may escelate into more, as SIMI have carried out on many attacks(check out timeline for recent attacks in india over past few years), and are rumoured to be controled by Al Queada or some shit.
-
I don't have a link but I just heard on the Polish news (one of the hostages is Polish) that over 800 are injured. anyone read anything like this??
-
yeah i think they just said 800 on NBC.
this is fucked.
edit 80 dead, 900 injured (india times) (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Terrorists_strike_Mumbai_80_dead_many_hurt/articleshow/3761410.cms)
-
Fuck this is beyond horrific. Jesus Christ this is fucked.
-
I hope steel's family is ok. he hasn't posted in a couple hours since replying to this topic and this is usually his prime posting-time.
-
Absolutely terrible... There are a few potential culprits... Could be Islamic and/or Hindu extremists. Its looking pretty grim over there... hopefully its settled down soon.
-
That my dad flew there today on a buisness tirp and immediately got back on a plane and went home again
-
A friend of mine online believes it's a false flag and the Jews are responsible wow.
-
Of course, it's the Jews. Who else would do such a thing?
This is terrible. I didn't know that the situation was so bad this morning, I thought it was an isolated event like a car bomb or something. This is pretty messed up, I hope this gets resolved soon.
-
I can only pray that everyone over there is safe.
God damn it...why does this shit happen, especially to India of all places!? :fogetangry:
-

Holy crap that guy has balls.

Um, dude, India isn't exactly known for being the most peaceful of countries.
-
its actually relatively stable and while there are occasional attacks like this, there's a reason this is more news than AFRICA STILL KILLIN EACH OTHER.
also my family is fine I said this already.
-
aghh this is not good.
i knew some missionaries from my church who were in Mumbai. some were kids, too. they were all killed in this attack. :<
-
oh man, that sucks :( I read they were targetting Americans and one person was from Italy and they were like YOU'RE FREE TO GO.
I'm really sorry to hear that.
-
I heard someone saying that people were saying "just tell them you're italian" and they did to escape.
-
man this shit is still going on 24 hours later
-
mkkmypet, sorry to hear that. did you know them well?
how are there fires still going on at the hotels? wouldn't crews have extinguished them by now? i don't know much about the structure of these hotel buildings, but it seems like a fire that lasts for >16 hours might cause a building to collapse?? are the terrorists re-igniting the fires to keep police away?
-
A friend of mine online believes it's a false flag and the Jews are responsible wow.
man you would associate with those kinds of people.
-
Jesus fucking Christ, I don't know what to say to this.
-
They're linking this to groups in Pakistan, so this could turn nastier. Luckily the pakistan government seem to be trying to be good buds and shit, but with Pakistan having to deal with the crap by afghanistan and the US on one side, I don't know how cooperative they'll be with this as well.
Kinda get the feeling it'll be whitewashed and they'll do it "internally".
-
saw the tpic title and thought, "So America is attacking india"
America is the only real terrorist.
-

There isn't a single example of a building collapsing from fire ever (obviously I am not talking about wooden buildings!). It's not THAT uncommon for a fire in one of these buildings to burn for so long if it's not contained, and with militants or whatever holding the place it'd be pretty hard to fight the fires.
I don't really know what else to say really, I can never understand why people murder random innocent people. :(

Indian Muslims tell terrorists to fornicate themselves (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7758651.stm).
clickit if you're lazy (Click to reveal)Indian Muslims say they do not want the gunmen killed by the security forces during the attacks in Mumbai to be buried in Muslim graveyards.
Community leaders believe the militants cannot be called Muslims because they went against the teachings of Islam and killed innocent civilians.
One leader said the militants had "defamed" the religion.
Nine militants died when they stormed targets in India's financial capital, killing at least 172 people.
'Unprovoked'
In what is perhaps their first openly defiant act against "Islamic terrorism", Muslims in India have decided they will not allow the militants to be buried in Muslim graveyards anywhere in the country.
These terrorists are a black spot on our religion, we will very sternly protest the burial of these terrorists in our cemetery
Ibrahim Tai, president,
Indian Muslim Council
They said that they could not believe that the assailants, who they said had "killed innocent civilians unprovoked", were true followers of Islam.
Ibrahim Tai, the president of the Indian Muslim Council, which looks after the social and religious affairs of the Muslim community in India, said that they had "defamed" his religion.
"They are not Muslims as they have not followed our religion which teaches us to live in peace.
"If the government does not respect our demands we will take up extreme steps. We do not want the bodies of people who have committed an act of terrorism to be buried in our cemeteries.
"These terrorists are a black spot on our religion, we will very sternly protest the burial of these terrorists in our cemetery," he said.
Other Muslim groups have written to their local assembly representatives to say that if the authorities force the militants to be buried in a Muslim graveyard, they too will come out on the streets in protest.
The council move found some support in Mumbai.
One Muslim housewife, Ruksana Sayeed, said: "We Muslims do not even kill an ant, our religion does not teach all this, we are against all these terrorists and I completely agree with the Muslim Council's argument."
However, Naseem Ahmed, a Muslim worker in the city, said the council was wrong.
"They are Muslims and they can be buried even if they have done something wrong. Our religion does not say that those who have done evil can't be buried in a cemetery," he said.
The gunmen held dozens of people hostage in two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre for over 60 hours before they were killed by commandos.
India is believed to have the world's largest Muslim population after Indonesia.
-
if i were muslim in india i wouldn't want them associated with me either, hindu nationalists are going to go crazy regardless though
-
I'd feed them to pigs

oh shit wow this is awesome!
