Should I trade my hacked PSP Phat with a few seeable scratches on the screen for a DS Lite Limited Edition with a AceKard 2 Flashcard.
I play RPGs the most so what should I do?
Ive been having a hard time figuring this out.
-
Why not have both?
-
Because my friend wants to trade me a DS for my PSP.
cause I spent the last of my money on a car.
-
Depends, have you played all the RPGs that you wanted to on the PSP? (i.e. would you play Kingdom Hearts: Birth From Sleep) I was considering buying a DS a while ago as well (I, too, own a hacked phat PSP) but decided to wait for the DS's successor. Unless you really want to play the FF4 remake or something, I don't think there are too many (decent) RPGs on the DS.
-
yeh but kingdom hearts birth by sleep is gonna take ages to come out and so is Final Fantasy Agito XIII and i have finished tons of psp rpgs. But i think that ds games are all babyish but i've only played a bit of ds rpgs.
though one that I really enjoyed was FF Tactics A2.
-
Keep your hacked PSP. PSP homebrew is far superior to DS homebrew.
Or if you don't want it anymore, ship it to me...
-
I dont play Homebrew much.
anyone know any good DS RPGs
-
I can't think of any DS RPGs I have enjoyed at all, but at least with a DS you can play phoenix wright. PW series is probably worth having a DS for if they are the only games you buy.
-
Hmm... DS RPGs...
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
Chrono Trigger Remake
Final Fantasy III Remake
Final Fantasy IV Remake
The World Ends With You
Luminous Arc 2
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
Blue Dragon Plus
Suikoden Tierkreis
FF Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
There's more... they just gotta keep an eye out.
-
So basically if you don't like Square you're a bit fucked.
-
The DS is pretty shitty when it comes to RPGs. I can't vouch for the PSP either because it's mostly just a dumping ground for jRPGs but a revised edition of Star Ocean 2 (you know, the only GOOD one) comes out early next year HOW YOU CAN SAY I LIKE RPGS and pass that up is beyond me.
Also Mana Khemia which is an RPG (dumb game, unintentionally hilarious but still rpg).
-
I believe that the PSP is worth a lot more in terms of usage than the DS and I'm not just saying that because I have a PHAT PSP, the only drawback of the psp is the analog stick which can easily be broken.
-
PSP is worth more period. The only DS Rpg I would pick up is the World Ends With You.
-
stick with the psp when it comes to RPGs, I think thats the consensus in this forum also.
-
I really like the DS and PSP (I don't own either) But right now I would get both a PSP. I don't know, Nintendo has better games imo, but i'd like the PSP to mod (I.e emulators)

i bought my friends PSP for $40 just so i could play this game. (star ocean 2 remake)
of course i've already put in a custom firmware and ordered two 4 gig memory sticks for like $3 each. im never payin for a psp game so help me god
-
the ds is terrible, i gave it the best shot i could. the only games i liked on it were the remakes of old mario games, i mean those are fun games to mess around with when you're on a train or in a dentist's office but you can get a better version of whatever is on the ds elsewhere if it's the best games you're looking for. i dunno much about the psp but it looks like kind of the same deal with watered down franchises being the most notable thing it has, although it looks like the franchises are at least more interesting than the ones on the ds. it's got an mgs game, bunch of racing games that aren't mario kart, and an ssx game (i like snow). that'd be enough to sway me to psp and i wish i'd gotten one of those back when i thought handhelds were a fun idea cos i would have at least gotten something out of it. it's also got FFVII crisis core, which in all honesty i would at least try out.
yeah, don't get a ds. you aren't missing anything. if you are really unsure just download an emulator and try a couple of the games out. i've found that once you play any game you've been anticipating for ages the excitement dies out 20 minutes in when you realise "oh...it's just... it's just another game." and i've saved a lot of money by not buying games unless i'm really sure they are good (this has happened 0 times).
i have also spent a lot of money by being an idiot and not following my own advice.
-
Well, I own a DS but I want to get a PSP.
There is not really a lot great for it.
Of course, if I got a psp it would mostly be for emulation.
-
Uhm. You guys realise you can get things that let you emulate on DS as well? That's not a psp 'exclusive' there.
-
Uhm. You guys realise you can get things that let you emulate on DS as well? That's not a psp 'exclusive' there.
Yeah I'm sure yor right on that part I have heard of emulators for the DS, but I'm also pretty sure that the homebrew scene is much more thriving than the DS homebrew scene.
-
SNES emulation and pretty much everythign else that matters is p/ pitiful on the DS for most games
-
Uhm. You guys realise you can get things that let you emulate on DS as well? That's not a psp 'exclusive' there.
I for one didn't mean there was no good homebrew on the DS
the thing is that it is millions of times better on the psp
and god you can emulate psx games almost perfectly
-
Man... This thread makes me want a PSP really badly.
Really, there aren't any good original RPGs these days period. I think that generation is long gone. The FF3 remake isn't worth it at all. I don't know about FF4. Pokemon is excellent, but that's really a love it or hate it thing. FF Tactics A2 barely qualifies as an RPG. The plot is less interesting than diarreah (yeah idc how you spell that correctly). If you like collecting shit it's an okay game.
edit: omg 666 posts this is historical
-
I never played my PSP when I had it, so I sold it. I have a DS that I only really keep around for two reasons: Phoenix Wright, and it's a good alarm clock.
:welp:

why would you do this??? star ocean 2 was not a particularly good game. but yeah i love the console it can play like 8 other different console's games, and its own games, and it's ALL FREE !!! only it is too easy and no one buys games so its third-party support is really kind of awful and it's only going to get worse.
-
I have a DS lite, it is a major piece of shit.
*flushes DS lite*

star ocean 2 is probably my favorite game. :(
i know it's not particularly amazing..deep..etc but i've had some kind of strange affection for it ever since i played it in like 1999. the characters are all pretty cliche and the voice acting is horrendous but i've always loved the battle system and the skill system etc. basically everything good about star ocean 2 was removed for star ocean 3 which angered me very much.
-
i liked how i made like ULTIMATE WEAPON........ accidentally when i was trying to make some pizza but so combat always struck me as dumb, brainless, devoid of strategy etc. HAMMER DOWN X, HOPE YOUR PARTY AI DOES NOT CAUSE YOU TO LOSE. its ok tho you were like 7 or something in 1999 i understand
-
hey i play games cos i spent all of my teen development years drinking instead and didn't have a chance to mature so i'm stuck in the year 1998 mentally thats my story im sticking with it but whats YOUR excuse buddy
-
i dont play games
-
i was 9 bitch...
-
Hacked PSP? play PS1 games, or stuff like that, you're not limited to PSP RPG's alone with a hacked PSP
you could play GBA stuff etc.
Whatever trips your trigger though
-
I can safely tell you that almost every DS game I've been excited for, or interested in has failed to deliver, had some stupid pen thing to do, or was a giant waste of time and money.
The few exceptions are Ace Attorney, Final Fantasy IV, and Brain Age.
-
Personally I like the DS more, I've gotten a huge amount of usage out of mine and I'm selling my PSP next week because I played it twice. I've had the thing for three or four months and I've played it twice.
-

how much? :]
-
Luminous Arc 2
There's a sequel already? must buy
-
The few exceptions are Ace Attorney and Brain Age Sudoku.
fixed.
to be honest i think that a cheap, used copy of Brain Age IS worth it for the sudoku tho
-
Well regarding Star Ocean: I have been playing Star Ocean 1 remake on PSP for a couple of weeks and it is basically 100% exactly like Star Ocean 2. Like it is literally a Star Ocean 2 mod. You even have the same skills for your characters etc. There are some revisions to make the game a little smoother and more fun and all that however. In my case I like that a lot because I liked Star Ocean 2 a lot but played it 10 years ago.
-
Get the DS, purely for the fact that Chrono Trigger DS was released recently. Seriously, the game is awe-some. Even more so then the original releases. And ofcourse the DS has other awesome RPG's too, but imo this one is by far the best.
-
how much? :]
Uh I dunno what it would equate to in USD, and I've already put it on NZs auction site... so... yeah. Sorry.
-

You are kidding.
I hope you are kidding.
I never play my DS, and I rarely play my PSP now. In the past few months only Mother 3 and Star Ocean have been played. If you play RPGs the most, I would just go with the PSP since you can hold an archive of old RPGs plus some of the decent ones on the actual system. Don't let CTDS be a deciding factor though, unless you want the same content you got 12 years ago.
-
There's a shitload (and I mean shitload) of new content, plus a new part has been added to the plot. It's not just a simple port. It contains the entire OST for your listening pleasure as well. It's worth your 40 bucks.
-
There's really not THAT much extra. I mean I really like the port, and I think it's quite a stellar port, but there's not MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF NEW STUFF there's a new dungeon that takes like 4 hours which is pretty impressive, but fairly boring, and some new hacked-on ending. I mean it's a great port, but it's not REALLY worth the 40 bucks.
-
Well I guess not if you're not a fan. But if you like RPG's I think it's worth it. There's also WiFi stuff so you can go with other people, and for europeans, this is the first time ever a Chrono game is getting released in Europe.
-
Yeah. A bunch of poitnless shit that where tacked on that adds nothing of value. If he wanted a CT with FMVs he could play it right now on his psp by making an eboot of the FF Chronicles version.
-
I can see that you obviously haven't played it yet...
-
It's people like you facilitating the bullshit that is keeping creativity at bay. You are hurting the industry... and you couldn't care less, just as long as you get your recolors and extra dungeon.
-
Yeah but to get a ds just for the sole reason to play a Chrono Re Release is kind of a steep suggestion, unless the said OP is a hardcore fan like you then theres really no point for him to get the chrono re release if the psx re release is available for him.
I mean it's not like theres that much difference with the core game, besides the extra stuff.
1 game doesn't justify it.
-
I can see that you obviously haven't played it yet...
Dude I really don't want to go off topic, but this needs to be addressed.
If you count this as GOOD extra content, I dunno what to say. The new dungeons are tacked on and lack the attention the REAL dungeons got in the game. The arena is pointless, and the maps look like they were made by and 13 year old in RM2K. I mean look how bad that dungeon is. You can see every bit of extra content they added on youtube, and anybody who appreciates CT knows that it's tacked on and obviously not worth it just by looking at the videos. I don't even go with professional reviewers most of the time, but even they say it's not worth the buy if you've already played the game.
-
That's not it, you're just talking to the wrong guy. Chrono Trigger is somewhat my most favorite game ever and I still play it every day. So even if it was just a sloppy port I'd still get it.
So yeah there's no use arguing in it 'cause I love the game and nothing will ever change that. I live in Europe myself and we're still waiting for a release here, but I already played the japanese and US version. I'm gonna get it just to show Square Enix the good will. Don't know if you noticed, but the new plot stuff is strongly hinting towards a sequel.
-
Or it just links CT to RD and CC....
(not that any of this has anything to do with the topic, hooray for another CT DS derail)
-
Yeah, my bad. My CT fanboyism got the better of me. Nevermind me, carry on
-

Guess I'm saving the rest of this part for the bus rides!
-
The original Chrono Trigger was epic.
I'd say the DS is worth it with games such as Zelda and Advance Wars.
However I don't think either console really has many memorable games and many of the DS games are ports.
-
The best part about CT DS is how the new ending is Square's attempt at making Chrono Cross canon.
-
fixed.

Actually, that's all I used brainage for, heh.
I should expand on my love for PSP. It wasn't just my awesome-o mp3/movie player. It had some of my favourite games of late. Both Grand Theft Auto instillations were tops. I especially liked the Liberty City Stories because (as far as city layout) LC > Vice City. And the adhoc GTA gameplay before GTA IV came along was terrific. Uh... Oh god, I just have a stack of vidya gams I loved on that console. Even the shitty ones were pretty fun:
Ape Escape: On the Loose ~ I hadn't played Ape Escape before, and this was a fun little romp of monkey catching.
Armored Core: Formula Front ~ Really enjoyed this one. Where it lacked in gameplay, it thrived in stragedy. (You set up your mech weapons, boosters, AI and let it duke auto-battle with other mechs)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ~ Come'on.
Crisis Core: FF7 ~ A good one-time playthrough. It had an alright battlesystem, and the ending was great. Good for FF7 nostagia, moreso than the other parts of this 'ff7 series'.
Darkstalkers Chronicles ~ I'm a DS fan. :welp:
Cube ~ Inventive puzzle platformer. Fun, medium-paced, brainteasing. Love it. + Level maker.
Death Jr. ~ The first platformer / shooter to really challenge me since PSone's Blasto. Yet, the black humour made cutsy was a little weird.
Dungeon Maker: Hunting Grounds ~ This surprised me. It was a lot like Jade Coccoon in presentation; except instead of endlessly capturing and breeding monsters, you're making a labyrinth to invite monsters in so you can kill them for sellable items to further your dungeon-making inventory / equipment / magic. If you like dungeon-crawlers that pretty much lack story and are full of hacknslash fun, this is for you.
Echochrome ~ Another interesting puzzler, though the small amount of levels make it a rental more than anything.
Everybody's/Hotshot Golf ~ being a Hotshot fan since PSX, this was a no-brainer. As usual, they made gameplay tweaks to keep me happy, and plenty of unlockable costumes / characters.
Exit ~ A rental, if you don't like puzzles. It has a cool concept and look appeal to it, but beyond that the game can be as repetative as those Mario Vs. DK games.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions ~ Worth it for the upgraded script and cutscenes. The new jobclasses are moot when you get Cid, just like any jobclass character in the original--however, it's all the same fun. First gen PSP's experience a tiny bit of lag when casting spells/items. (though it wasn't so terrible that I noticed; I'm relying on others critical opinions here)
fl0w ~ Just as fun as on PS3. It's like Spore LVL1. Go around eating other organisms and advance to the next genetic stage...
Grand Theft Auto : LBCS & VCS (as stated above, both cames rock.)
Jeanne d'Arc ~ A tactical RPG akin to FFT, minus the job classes. The characters are all set with weapons and you use stones to set various skills. One of my favourite PSP games to date.
LocoRoco ~ :) I can't describe this, or why it's fun. It's fun for the same reasons Katamari is addictive.
Lord of the Rings: Tactics ~ Another good tactics rpg. You can play as the Fellowship, or the badguys. I'm not a big LotR fan, but this was a satisfying game to play. My fave. fight was escaping Moria and trying to avoid the Balrog... AND THE DWARF KICKED HIS ASS.
Me & My Katamari ~ It's hard to hate Katamari after you've played it. This did a reasonably good job recreating the gameplay of two analog sticks with facebuttons, and the credits stage is to die for.
Metal Gear AC!D ~ If you take the story with a grain of salt and know it's not 'cannon' you'll enjoy this more. It took me off guard, but I fell in love with the card-based tactical sneaking ops.
Metal Gear AC!D2 ~ You have no choice but to take this vibrantly coloured, heavily stylistic MG with a grain of salt. It's strictly over-the-top. Yet, there's way more cards to choose from, and a wide variety of levels to traverse.
MGS: Portable Ops ~ Though stage-based, this felt exactly like Metal Gear Solid 1 and quite nearly had MGS2's graphics. This is a must-play for MGS fans, as it explains a lot about Naked Snake and answers a lot of questions left hanging in previous MGS games. The only downside was the stupid Metal Gear. Totally uncool. However, the cutscenes (that played like a digital comic) were terrific.
PaRappa the Rapper ~ If you were too young to play PaRappa on PSX, this is a good time to catch up. Kick, Punch, it's all in the mind! :D
Patapon ~ A rental, but the rhythmatic gameplay is hypnotising... Pon Pon Pata Pon... Pata Pata Pata Pon...
PoPoLoCrois (RPG) which I didn't beat, but got to the end dungeon and got sidetracked. Game was freaking awesome.
Power Stone Collection ~ Dreamcast's best fighting game in the palm of my hand, plus... the sequel... Love it. The addition of the Dreamcast VMU minigames is neat too. It's like they stuffed everything Power Stone onto PSP. :)
Sonic Rivals ~ You face off against other Sonic characters, while at the same time dashing along as fast as you can, through a VERY classic-feeling Sonic game. Best Sonic since Sonic Adventure...
Sonic Rivals 2 ~ More of the speed, a lot more, and same great gameplay with the addition of some Game Gear Sonic gameplay elements (See: Hang gliding).
Twisted Metal: Head-On ~ God, the hours I spent playing this online... Probably rivals the time I put into Call of Duty 4.
Wild Arms ~ Somehow I missed this RPG on PSX, but got to it now... wow, fun times man. Bad 3D Graphics for graphic whores, but a great game nonetheless.
WipeOut Pure ~ Uh, it's WipeOut. Different levels, online play, and new vehicle designs. It's WipeOut... That = fun.
Worms: Open Warfare ~ A little laggy but a great worms game. Ad-hoc was fun.
Worms: Open Warfare 2 ~ More lag, less fun. Better gameplay though. Perplexing... If only you could turn off those dumb backgrounds it would run like silk.
That's my stack of games. I enjoyed each one for their own reasons... The least fave on that list was the last one (WormsOW2). There's at least ten games I want to play still. God of War, Ratchet & Clank games, Daxter etc... never got around to 'em.
-
The best part about CT DS is how the new ending is Square's attempt at making Chrono Cross canon.
Yeah.... while looking at related vids to the one posted here I saw that.
...
At least they didn't retcon her hair.

I absolutely adore Chrono Trigger, and I've played the original to completion at least 4-5 times. I'm now going through the DS port for my second time. It's just... yeah, it's a good port but it's not a reason to buy a DS over. Get a PSP, emulate the original or the PS1 version (god forbid, with those fucking load times), and you will get pretty much exactly the same experience.
-
So Star Ocean 1 on PSP came up earlier in this thread? I still like the game is anyone playing it :(
It's pretty cool that the game is really exploitable but that there are always extra challenges. The game is designed for you to exploit it. Like I just made an item that increases my level by one, but I can also use the magic camera to dupe it, so I can sort of level to infinity. Also I have like infinite money because I used item creation to make a crystal that I sold for $$$$$$$$$ instead of making an accessory out of it. I guess it is sort of stupid but SO is built around this kind of ridiculous crap and it is kind of the point! It is a novel idea that grinding for levels and money in SO is not done by fighting lots of battles, but by knowing the right ways to exploit item creation. The (reasonably positive) reviews highlight item creation as like the primary source of fun in the game and I can see why.
-
i'm pretty sure i'm getting a ds for christmas, (i'll let you know) and i'm not pissed at all.
All my friends have them so it will be fun playing games with them. Plus, i really like the nostalgic snes feel to the graphics. FF3+4 remakes? i'm sold. Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled looks fucking dope too. Furthermore, unlike the psp Ds-es are compatible with japanese games too. And in japan there are tons of weird things that come out for the DS. Personally, I'm interested in the japanese-english denshi jisho. Using the stylus, looking up kanji would be a breeze. and u know, touch screens are cool.

"Chrono Trigger is somewhat my most favorite game ever and I still play it every day."

how's your health
-
hp/mp restored!
but im still hungry.
-
thanks for all the replys As you can guess I decided not to trade.Chrono trigger DS is good but I already have the PSX version on my PSP and have gotten near the end.
Another reason I didnt trade was because I found out Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is coming out and Kingdom Hearts has become one of my favourite RPGs of all time.
-
Dude I guarantee I love Rhapsody as much as you love Chrono Trigger and I hated the fuck out of the DS remake for being such a letdown. Being a fan doesn't mean you automatically have to like everything related to it.
-
Yep. I am a huge blizzard fanboy (I am getting that Frostmourne replica btw)... yet I don't care for World of Warcraft!
-
Might just be me, but I like them both.
But if you really only want to keep one, I'd say what do you like more?
Getting some good games and a few gems each yet, which may or may not be rehashes of other games, keep the DS.
If you are into emulation on the go and are too cheap to own a better MP3 player, keep the PSP.
-
"Chrono Trigger is somewhat my most favorite game ever and I still play it every day."
ahaha man this made me lol. PLAY IT EVERY DAY. this is ridiculous.
still better then all the fuckheads who play world of warcrap 24/7
-
Sort of. I mean there's only so much you can do much in Chrono Trigger. Yeah it's good but after like 20 hours, 30 tops you will have gotten absolutely everything. At least in WoW there is the whole SOCIAL INTERACTION WITH OTHER PLAYERS and stuff to keep it dynamic! Every time you boot up CT you are going to play the same game; conversely, every time you boot up WoW you are going to have a new experience each time because everything is constantly CHANGING and DYNAMIC.
fyi i abhor wow, but there ya go
-
still better then all the fuckheads who play world of warcrap 24/7
not really because at least world of warcraft isn't a fairly straightforward story that you can FINISH, even though there are the sidequests and endings and whatever it can still be OVER which means this guy would be replaying it over and over again in order to play it every day
world of warcraft has new stuff added to it regularly and even just having multiplayer makes it a different experience at least, chrono trigger isn't likely to get any updates anytime soon to add more game to it
edit: damn beat me to it
-
WoW constantly changing? What they really need to change is the retarded community of 13-year old kids who call each other n00b all day long and all the goldspammers and botters that are spamming around everywhere.
Chrono Trigger's story is enjoyable, and I enjoy playing New Game+ and building my characters to the max. Maybe it doesn't have new stuff every time, but hey if it's not broke don't fix it.

hi you missed the point
no one is even claiming wow is a good game we are just saying that IT CHANGES (fuck even just counting the expansions it drastically changed two times already, you can ignore the patches if you want) and so it is understandable that someone who liked the game would play it a lot because it's different every time, chrono trigger is the same game every time, and so you are getting the same exact story and gameplay every time, no matter what twists you are putting on it, it is just very very FINITE no matter what you say, and playing it every single day means that you are starting new games so often that it is just UNTHINKABLE
also complaining about the wow players is a terrible choice because i guarantee i could go out and find 5 terrible chrono trigger forums right now, if you're basing a game on its community you are picking the wrong fight here
edit: especially since a lot of wow players play with their buddies and not with the random people in the chats, most players ignore those people

\maybe..... maybe... it will end different this time

guys justrob is the guy who is arguing that RM is way better than GM and that he will never touch GM again, so it doesn't surprise me that he's unreasonably stubborn in other regards too.
-
Yeah I stand for what I like. I'm not gonna say GM is awesome just because everyone does. Don't like it? Too bad...
And no I didn't miss the point. So you're basically saying shit is more fun as long as it changes, even if it's crappy as hell? No, sorry. I don't agree.
Edit: And just remember it wasn't me who picked this fight. Blame headphonics for ridiculing someone who likes to play Chrono Trigger.

You are a fucking idiot.

WoW is pretty crap IMO.
But back on topic, I think the OP should keep his PSP then when he (she?) gets the money to get a DS get it.
-
You are a fucking idiot.
Thanks honey, I love you too
-
no one cares you like chrono trigger its because you waste your time playing it everyday.
it's so rare to actually know that even at your worst you use your time better than someone else but congrats JustRob unless there's some dude playing FF4 or something everyday as well I'm granting you GW's worst vidcon player.
-
hah hah hah *pants* almost...forgot...to play chrono trigger.
this time...it'll be different.

It's better to play a multiplayer "social" game all the time, that is DESIGNED to be played all the time (ie very large amount of content, new content added semi regularly, repeated content always different because of the people you play with) than it is to rinse and repeat a 20 hour or so single player game from 1995.
You can like it and replay it alot whatever, nobody gives a shit, but you can't say you're better than wow nerds for playing their game alot when it's designed to be fun for way longer. I mean I still play suikoden 2 every other year cause I dig it and it's nostalgic but yeah read previous post
-
no one cares you like chrono trigger its because you waste your time playing it everyday.
it's so rare to actually know that even at your worst you use your time better than someone else but congrats JustRob unless there's some dude playing FF4 or something everyday as well I'm granting you GW's worst vidcon player.
Thank you very much. Nothing much else to do every day in the train besides for reading the newspaper huh. But thanks man. And good luck with your health.
@ mark: Ok Im not better then wow nerds. Happy?
-
Did you really just give a sarcastic good luck with your health to the guy with cancer in his brain
-
yeah it rules because it's always the worst members who do this.
HEH WELL YOU HAVE A THING YOU TOLD US ABOUT :P
the ownage...argh...
also read a fucking book, don't even play.
-

It wasn't sarcastic... I know it's strange that people can actually show compassion, it's hard to comprehend in this world.
But yeah make of it what you want
-
i made of it what i wanted.
-

I wonder why they always resort to this. This is like the fourth or fifth time now.
-
we need to start keeping up a list of these guys.
-
because it's something painful and everyone assumes therefore you are terrified of it, but I'm perfectly comfortable discussing it.
if however, someone implied something with it, like "STEELS ONLY STAFF BECAUSE...YOU KNOW" or said "MAKE LIKE STEEL AND GET A BRAIN TUMOR", it would upset me a hell of a lot more. especially the second one because there are quite a few GWs without health insurance or with weaker immune systems (when the wind blows, it breaks one of velfarre's fingers) who would not be as lucky!

I WAS NOT FUCKING SARCASTIC. What annoys me the most here is that you think I was. You think I would hit someone on his cancer just because I don't agree with him in an argument? Stop being so ignorant, I wasn't sarcastic. I genuinely hope you get through it. And yeah I know what you think "Pff some guy from the internet whos acting like an ass wishes me good luck with my health, must be sarcasm" either that or you don't care. But I do.
So long as you know that.
And yeah this was JustRob if you couldn't tell. Now you can ban me again.
-
why the hell would you bring this up here.
hmmm topic derail about chrono trigger. how'd your job interview go panda?
-
so...which one is better

psp.

DS
-
I have a DS and I get quite a bit of enjoyment out of it (or I do now... mwahaha).
You see, if you buy an R4 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18312) and a MicroSD card (http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-MicroSDHC-Memory-Adapter-Packaging/dp/B000SMVQK8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231102479&sr=8-2)... you really are set. The DS has quite a bit of good games.
Just look here (http://www.metacritic.com/games/ds/scores/). Quite a bit of entertainment!
I can't speak for the PSP as I do not own one (though I really want one!).
-
To be honest there is no compromise between the PSP and the DS, mostly because people like either system because of the games. So if you do have to decide let the games be a deciding factor and whether you will like them or not, otherwise there is no point.
-
DS is so terribel. I think the only games I've played on it the past year are Lego Batman and Age of mythology. And probably Pokemon during the summer.
It's hard thinking of good games for it because the reliance on touchscreengimmick totally ruins games which could be good. Want a nifty FPS game? sorry but you gotta use stylus to look around, therefore creating the most uncomfortable and annoying gaming control ever.
Fuck, I think Rouge Agent is possibly the best FPS on the DS!
-
The DS is pretty shitty when it comes to RPGs. I can't vouch for the PSP either because it's mostly just a dumping ground for jRPGs but a revised edition of Star Ocean 2 (you know, the only GOOD one) comes out early next year HOW YOU CAN SAY I LIKE RPGS and pass that up is beyond me.
This. They generally fall into 3 categories.
1. Final Fantasy (or Final Fantasy clone)
2. A crappy stratergy RPG that is clearly an inferior copy of Final Fantasy Tactics.
3 Or "INNOVASHUN CONTROLAN" which means you have to use the touch screen and it is done is a stupidly fucking awkward way that ruins the whole feel of the game. Actually, most DS RPGs fall into this category. You can literally play 90% of the game with the control pad/buttons, but there is always some little fucking gimmicky gameplay element that you HAVE to do and you HAVE to use the touch screen for, "touch the screen to unleash your special attack!!", or "you have to draw this with your touch screen" or the most annoying "you can use the control pad/buttons for everything in the game, except for in a fight. Enjoy having to adjust to two totally different control schemes!".
In general, DS RPGs are not that good... Then again, the PSP has just as poor a selection of RPGs, but at least it has like... 2 decent ones (even if they are remakes of PSX games).
My advice is just get a DS emulator for your PC. They are easy to find, and work pretty well with good support for most games. What is the point in wasting money on a DS AND a flashcard when you could achieve the same results for free?
-
ds does pretty much have a terrible rpg library. there's a game coming out made specifically for the ds called black sigil: blade of the exhiled or something like that and it seems pretty interesting (no touch screen gimmicks!) but i wouldn't get a ds just for that (it's bound to be a really hard-to-find game and what else are you going to get anyways).
edit: if you do get a ds anyways i highly reccomend kirby: canvas curse. it is a very enjoyable but short game and actually does a really good job with the touch screen
-
I am getting so sick of these topics. There's games to be discussed, and we have like four topics on page one about 'plz tell me about DS games are good'. Seriously, man... Can't we have a bitchfest megathread or something?
-

I dunno man, I have multiple emulators (to test my own code) and all of them seem to do a shitty job with most commercial games I throw at them. Also you can't take your PC on the bus and whatever.
-
I'm pretty sure most DS emulators can't properly emulate Phoenix Wright, i'd hate to see how poorly they emulate other, more technically complex games. DS emulators are still pretty early in development and generally pretty shitty! Have you actually tried one or are you just saying that they have good support for most games because if there's some magical DS emulator you know of that I don't I'd like to see it.
-
I first played Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice using an emulator; they worked perfectly.
-
Velfarre, the hell are you talking about? No$GBA emulates a bunch of games very, very well (even complex 3d ones, though it depends) but name ANY 2d game and it runs PERFECTLY on it. Phoenix Wright runs absolutely great on it.
It's what I played it with. :|
Of all the games that were worth giving a small try at least, the only one I couldn't play was FFIVDS because of a bug that stacks all the text on the screen until you can't see shit anymore
-
I can't run either of the Advance Wars games very fast, but maybe it's because I've only got a 1.7Gh Centrino. Although stuff like Pokemon, Trauma Centre (although I can't save, for some reason) and as mentioned, Phoenix Wright work quite well.
-
Maybe I was using an out of date emulator then because it would emulate PW for a short time with no sound and then die altogether.
-
Just use no$gba and be the happiest person on earth, Velfarre.
-
Seriously? Flushing my SSRIs right now in that case :D

:o
Soul Bubbles
Bangai-O Spirits
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Metal Slug 7
Contra 4
Give em a try and learn to enjoy your DS again... or for the first time, or whatever. (friggin' Lego Batman and Age of Mythology... what the hell man?)

why would you recommend apollo justice by itself i mean it was good but it's the least fun of the series!
-
i think apollo justice was a lot better than the second one and on about the same level as the first one, but yea the third one is pretty much the best phoenix wright.
also i think he was just naming things that came out recently.

whaaaat man the second one is the best PW f u and your opinions
-
Yeah I was trying to name some of the more recent games since he said he can't remember what he played the past year. I think the only one I named that wasn't an 08 release was Contra 4. But of course, if he hasn't even touched the Ace Attorney series, then of course, all three Phoenix Wrights and Apollo Justice is great too.
-
WoW constantly changing? What they really need to change is the retarded community of 13-year old kids who call each other n00b all day long and all the goldspammers and botters that are spamming around everywhere.
I play wow occasionally (yeah so shoot me) and I am the only one under 17 i have met in the game. And theres maybe a goldspammer once a day in the major cities. Where as the people ive seen who think Chrono Triiger DS is like the remake to own all remakes are pissy little fuckheads like you.
-
I don't prefer one over the other as I own and like both handhelds. The game I'm playing is the factor on which platform I want to play on. Even if the PSP offers much more features and multimedia, I never use them, and only use my PSP for games. The browser is a pain to use on the PSP, which is the closest thing to using a cell phone to type.
