Title: Resident Evil 5 (exclusive 360 demo)
Post by: Marcus on December 05, 2008, 11:56:59 pm
Download these files. (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=fdf4f1773666296791b20cc0d07ba4d2e66f2dcbbe596359)

Burn them to a cd (doesn't have to be a DVD).  Play as "mixed media." ??? PROFIT.

So, what to say about the game?  Well, it's basically Resident Evil 4 with better graphics.  Same controls, same basic gameplay, same retarded enemies that run at you with axes except their black.  I will say that the best thing about the game is the "co-op" with Sheva.  At first I thought I was going to deal with stupid babysitting that plagues most games due to bad AI but having her cover you and reach areas you wouldn't normally access is refreshing from solo killing hordes of monsters.  The levels are larger, with more paths leading to the goal, and the battles are more "intense" than RE4 but other than that it's pretty much the same.

And Chris' biceps.  Jesus Christ, Chris' biceps.

To make this topic viable, here's some generic screenshots you've all seen before.

Anyways, this is uh... another RE5 discussion topic?

no, some random make-belief city in south africa

chris, with his mighty biceps, and sheva, a mulatto girl from the african department of whatever government agency chris is working with, decide that it's best to enter a hostile city and fuck shit up personally.

This is exactly why videogames are so entertaining

capcom would have to really go out of their way to make this NOT FUN

they should have these huge spiked centipede things from hell popping out the back of their skulls with these insect legs that drag the africans around and they just kind of lay there and mumble "I'm.....so....hungry...." in Swahili that would be much more realistic.

i am but that doesnt count!

well rather i was more offended by the original trailer which featured A DANGEROUS JUNGLE BUNNY GRUNTING AT TH EBLOND SAVIOUR and i am still offended that it's likely capcom doesn't know what they did wrong and just shoved white folks into the game to deflect the most damaging criticism (it's okay that you're basically an aryan warrior killing loads of black people who chase after you with clubs, there are some white folks too).

Offended?  No.  Amused?  Yes.  It's hard to fault Japan for stuff like this considering that for the past 100 years their population has diversified from .10% foreign nationals to a whopping 1.20% foreign nationals.  They are completely oblivious to the suffering and history of anyone who isn't Japanese.  I honestly believe the team of guys who thought up of the game seriously had no idea that a large group of people would find the fact that they're a big, buff silky skinned action hero shooting barbaric black dudes and when it did happen they tried to "pad" things out by adding a African chick who's whiter than Halle Berry and a handful of foreign zombies.

What I am offended by are the idiot gamers who cry "oversensitive!"  I love that word because it implies that you understand why something is offensive, don't find it offensive yourself, and you ridicule someone else for finding it so offensive.  DU-UH.  Of course Billy Bob who grew up in upper class New York estate and his mom paid his way through college won't find it offensive and blast all of his fellow gamers who are more culturally diverse because they want to censor his action game.  I found the edited lyrics from Little Big Planet to be a dumb thing to halt the game for but I'm Muslim and if I was I'd be pretty pissed my holy document was quoted out of context.  You can't speak for someone else unless you've been placed in their same situation.  Remember that episode of South Park when Stan's trying to make up for his dad screaming NIGGER on TV and Token's like YOU DON'T GET IT MAN!  You can't say "I feel for you bro" when you're not a fucking bro!

why do none of the enemies attack the player in that video?

They just run at him waving axes and knives and shit but when they get close to him they start walking and don't seem to do anything, same thing goes for those flying turds that just fly around.

So the odd thing about this demo is that the version Japanese players are playing is the english 2008 demo.

This leads me to believe that either Microsoft are massive trolls by region locking it, they think all Japanese people speak perfect english, or they uploaded the wrong version to the Japanese online marketplace.

why does everything from Japan have to have gay/racist undertones

well either strongly offensive to gays or seemingly designed by a gay guy there's no middle ground

Edit: Both at once if you're Dragon Ball Z

Did they really have to reuse menu sound effects from 4? I don't think this looks nearly as good as it did in the various trailers, but then again, it's in low-res YT quality.

just remove the harddrive before you play.  YOU DON'T need it and microsoft can't flag your harddrive and all that other retarded censorship bullshit they pull

Someone explain the  following to me, please:

1. Why the fuck are there MUTALISKS on RESIDENT EVIL?
(optional)
2. Why the voice acting is like inferior to RE4?
2.1 Why is the gameplay the exact same shit as RE4?
3. Why ChrisRedfield looks like me?
Title: Resident Evil 5 (exclusive 360 demo)

Here's the answer to 2.1:

Remember how RE1-2-3(CV) were almost identical?

I bet you 1010015935913755$ RE4-5-6(whatever goes here) will be identical

re7-8-9(re:suck my dick edition) will be RTSes or something

Post by: maladroithim on December 10, 2008, 05:41:07 pm
Well I don't know what you guys expect but an iterative improvement on RE4 with new content is pretty much fine by me.  Sometimes it's nice to play a new iteration as long as the original's mechanics have not been spent.  Maybe this is why we like Megaman X 3 but not Megaman X 95?

ugh i seriously don't get how they can dump this much money into a project and not hire a single writer that can make a story that makes sense

i don't mean good dialogue, i don't even mean one with a particularly good story even, i just mean a story that goes from point a to point b without making absolutely no sense whatsoever. the guy who writes these games must be 13.
Title: Resident Evil 5 (exclusive 360 demo)
Post by: `~congresman Ron paul~~ on December 10, 2008, 11:25:52 pm
i remember there was a point in RE4 when the main character (can't remember his name too unmemorable) gets to a locked church door, and calls his superior on the radio saying 'I've reached a locked door.' and she responds 'So? Why are you telling me this? Didn't they teach you how to lockpick at Secret Service school or something?" and he just says "Heh!" in a kind of snarky tone and changes the subject, but it was obvious that the game wasn't making an ironic joke, but mostly that the writers actually didn't have an explanation for why the main character needed to battle his way through another 2 hours of monsters to find a key to a door when he has submachine guns, explosives, and the building has windows. and they brought it up purposefully for some reason.

it's pretty bad when all of your dialogue and plot is significantly worse than, say, the original Alone in the Dark or something.

Capcom even acknowledges the writing in the series is horrid

If you look at the RE collection for Ps2, one of the features is

"Enjoy tons of INCREDIBLE dialogue!!!"

If that isn't sarcasm there I don't know what is

i was always under the impression the dialog was supposed to be NOT GOOD. i think in the earlier games they certainly tried, but in something like RE4 it really seems to me they knew it was cheesy VIDEO GAME dialog. maybe i am giving them too much credit, but either way, i think the RE games always had a certain charm to them because of this.

Dammit! By spoiler I didn't think you meant that :(

My favorite part about the first RE game was the really shitty cutscenes and voice acting. Maybe that's just me.

But yeah switching from T-Virus zombies to mind controlling parasites was stupid.

I'll still play it 30+ times like I did all the other ones though

I still don't get people who say GOD DAMN NO MORE ZOMBIES

PARASITES? LAME

But, really, if you think about it, virus-induced zombies or parasite-induced slow evil people/niggers

what makes more sense

i mean the virus one only makes more sense to people because VIRUSES CREATING ZOMBIES has been used in sci-fi since like idk 1930 or whatever

but mind-controlling parasites

pfft

really re is just about some dude(s) being stuck having to solve something that makes people weird and dangerous on an epidemic scale

there's also shady dudes mixing politics and money into it oh boy

I'm still dissappointed at how they still haven't been able to add some strafing or dodging functions, yeah sure I could dodge by moving out of the way but adding strafing or something would make things so much easier. It seems that games nowadays don't focus much on the little things.

I think the concept of BIG ASS PARASITE IN HEAD is alot less threatening and scary as an invisible virus created by man that brings the dead back to life.

I mean I know those things were excavated or whatever but its still pretty dumb imo and I liked the virus stuff even more even though it was overused.

I downloaded this last night.
Resident evil 4 in Africa. Same animations, Same camera angles, Same Sounds, I mean fuck the Door even Splinters the same way. And chris still cant move and Fire. Level design feels the same, It looks pretty though.

I kinda Dig the new Inventory system. Going back old school/outbreak.
The Partner system is kinda just giving the schoolgirl a gun.

And i noticed Chris does strafe, just not really fast and not while you are aiming.

I laughed so hard at the bit where the zombies are ment to be Swarming from the hangman's noose in the cutscene. then when the game loads there is a trickle of two or three guys slowly climbing a fence.

I was hoping they were going for a bit more speed instead of making the character feel like a clunky Tank. Oh well, I'll still get it. but im not going to be happy about it. Cold Fear was a greater resident evil than resident evil 4

Around Blacks, never Relax.

I actually know the end of the game. A Jill Valentine clone is made by the only continuous villain in Resident Evil from the parasite/virus/ whatever else they can pull out of their ass (ALIENS!!!), and it ends in a cliff hanger after some final boss ass wooping and possible love scenes between Chris and the girl following him around with a gun.

I still think Leon had gone slightly insane after his experience with Zombies in Raccoon City (opinion on RE4).

Man, I love the plot in Resident Evil because it's clear Capcom hires high schoolers but it's okay because it's intentionally bad.

It's not like they're trying to make something good and failing, they're trying to fail and succeed.  I used to think completely opposite of this until I learned that Biohazard is always in English with Japanese subtitles because Capcom wants the game to feel like an undeniably campy 1960s American horror film.

Wow they actually had the courtesy of adding a strafe function...still sucks that i cannot move when I want to shoot some dudes, but i guess strafing is somewhat helpful either way. I must say Capcom also made your partner's AI pretty damn good, I noticed her get head shots 80% of the time when I gave her the sniper rifle and she acted like as if another person would be playing....that is until she just stood there while a chainsaw wielding psycho came up to her and chopped her fucking head, while i kept telling her to come to me. Otherwise, it plays almost exactly like RE4 other than some minor additions and a somewhat changed control system but its not too different but that is the way i like it!

Yeah the demo is legitimately available for download today only (well, yesterday and the day before too, but today is the last day it's available FOR NOW)

I tried it since it's only like 500MB and was very unimpressed. The graphics are nice and all, but everything feels CLUNKY. You can't move around when aiming, aiming itself just feels slow and tedious, in general the game felt like a third person shooter from like eight years ago. after Gears of War, even GRAND THEFT AUTO 4, I don't really have patience for RE5's controls and they could definitely make/break the game. To be fair, I didn't spend much time with it either, but I was pretty turned off.

What do you expect, Rowain? It's a Resident Evil game. Clunky controls is what the series is known for. If you take that out, it will feel like any other game out there, especially now that there are no zombies.

I had some problem with the controls at first but I've played the demo a few times now and I've gotten used to them. It reminds me of how much fun RE4 was.

I was HORRIBLY dissapointed after playing that... You say being able to aim and move would make it like any other game out there, especially with no zombies... BUT THAT'S ITS PROBLEM. It's a NORMAL game given these terrible controls which do not work with such a game (especially as it's not survival horror anymore).

Such a piece of crap.

Still feels like a Resident Evil game (which it still is), so I'm happy.

Co-op is really fun too... at least with a friend.

Compare the old games controls with the last two. They aren't really that different at all. The main difference is the camera.

It's always been the same core in terms of controls.

Is that a massive spoiler in the MIDDLE OF A MAGAZINE??? Because that's really, really funny if that's what that's from (instead of some promotional material or something)

Nah, not much of a spoiler. The shot of her tombstone is in the trailers as well.

Hahah, you can't see the death date on the tombstone because it is cleverly placed on the fold.  SPECULATE

I don't think this has been posted anywhere on the boards yet.  I can't wait until this game is finally released.  If it's at least as good as RE4, then it's going to keep me entertained for quite awhile.
Nothing more to say than  :fogetgasp:

The shot of the tombstone in the trailer reveals the date though: 1974 - 2006

just tried this.  Feels like RE4 with a new setting and characters.  My only gripe is it doesn't pause when you open the inventory like in every previous entry.  That and I was spoiled by RE4's HUGE inventory and I don't like only having 9 slots per person.

The enemy AI doesn't seem any worse than RE4, and the partner AI is nice, but could use some improvement.  One thing I thought was a major plus was that when you pick up ammo or money, it doesn't bring up a menu, which broke flow a lot in RE4.  The other ones not so much, because you weren't likely to pick up anything while fighting anyways.

I'll probably get this when it comes out, mainly since it's like RE4, and i loved RE4, and beat it like 15 times simple because it was fun.

i like how they toned down some things such as you no longer doing triple spin kicks to blow off peoples' heads. that's really about it from what i saw.

I just tried the demo. Is there anything to this game besides shotgunning africans in broad daylight?

Are there any valid horror elements at all?

African with a Chainsaw, and some guy with a huge axe (reminds me of Pyramid Head...), other than that?  I don't think so.

Well, i just beat both areas. I like a few changes they made from RE4.

1: Less ammo - Could just be the demo saying "Here's two weapons and a reload of ammo, and a slightly difficult area, good luck", but i found it funny that in RE4, about midway through you could ditch your handgun and use the shotgun as your main weapon.

2: differences in "Unique" Monsters - Lets face it, in RE4 the chainsaw guy wasn't scary once you got the shotgun.  Blast him in the face, run.  And while i can't say i found the same enemy in RE5 is any scarier, i found the fight much more enjoyable when I had to run for my life during the fight.  Both because he had more health and because it took an explosion or multiple rifle rounds to stagger him.  I also enjoyed the Pyramid Head wannabe, though it seems they want to rip off Silent Hill more and more (See: RE4 Beta, or RE3.5, whatever you want to call it)

3: Death is forgiving - Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a challenge when i play my games.  However there are multiple times when I played RE4 that I dealt with a really cheap death.  I'm not sure how the dying status works if you don't have an herb, but I like having a bit of forgiveness there.

4: A partner with a gun and a brain - Thank fucking God.  Ashley was the most annoying "partner" in any game i've played.  That and she couldn't defend herself.  Sheva even knows when to switch from her handgun to a heavier weapon.  I don't think I need to say more here.

If they add in a quick weapon switch or something, I will be more than happy.  I don't have good reaction time, especially when I have a chainsaw, or a giant axe following me.

I haven't played it but I heard in a podcast that you can switch weapons with the d-pad?

As maladroithim said, you can quickly change weapon/item by pressing the D-pad.

I'm not sure how the dying status works if you don't have an herb, but I like having a bit of forgiveness there.

The dying-status can be "cured" by simply running to your partner and press B over and over. After that you'll be like in the previous games, wounded but won't bleed to death. The herbs still work as health, not reviving (although they can be used for that too).

It be racist not to kill the same amount of black people as white and since the past games had loads more white folk its time to balance things out.

I played this game and I enjoyed it. It is so fun and the online play is so good and it opens the door to maybe resident evil outbreak 3? The controls are like Resident evil 4' so if you didn't like the controls there you won't like this game. The graphics are topnotch like always. I am so getting this game.

Yeah, this. I played the demo twice with my friend. Yeah, it's a bit clunky (I didn't realize how freaking awesome the aiming was on the Wii RE4), and everything is kind of slow and the same as before, but it looks like fun! And Co-op was a great idea.

VERY interesting comment by some american capcom guy: You can MOVE and SHOOT with an alternative control.

Some people claim that Capcom said that he was wrong but I haven't seen anything about that yet. What do you think? He clearly says you can move and shoot: http://se.youtube.com/watch?v=l-vEW3Fj7tU&feature=channel_page

Previous info was wrong - obviously the marketing guy gets paid for sitting on his ass:

Update: This is why marketing guys shouldn't be breaking down gameplay during interviews.  The marketing representative in this video is clear, but we have direct confirmation from Capcom that the information is inaccurate.  We have the final review build for the game and there is NO option for run 'n gun (moving while shooting), and there isn't going to be, either.  Sorry for the confusion..
