I'm trying to put together a sort of Christmas album to give to some of my friends, but I don't want it include a bunch of traditional Christmas carols. I'm looking for suggestions of non-traditional, or even sort of "anti-Christmas" songs along the lines of the Pogues' "Fairytale of New York."
Any suggestions?
If you guys can come up with a list of 10-15 songs, I'd really appreciate it. If I manage to put a decent album together, I'll zip it up and put it in the Zoo.

weve got a gw troubadours christmas album check it out...
-
Was gonna post Fairytale of New York but turns out you know it.
The Flaming Lips have at least 2 songs, an old one called Christmas at the Zoo and one from a few years back called A Change Comes at Christmas (or something like that).
They've also got a movie/soundtrack coming called Christmas On Mars, but I don't know any songs from it or if it's out yet.

The Tom Waits song "Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis." I found a version on playlist.com that has him singing Silent Night at the beginning as an intro. He also has a straight take on Silent Night, backed by a choir that is pretty good.

Olops the Other Reindeer.. by parokya ni edgar(search it on limewire)

You could try The Wombats new single "Is This Christmas?" It's pretty anti-christmas.

Oh and "How To Make Gravy" by Paul Kelly
it's rare in that
-it's a good Christmas song
-it's a good Australian song
-it's a good Paul Kelly song
Kelly's actually really well-regarded an influential in Australian music, but I can't really enjoy many of his songs.
here's a live version of it. it's poor quality and that annoying noise is not usually in it. usually sounds more energetic too, I think.

I heard this ambient Christmas song on a chillout station and it actually wasn't too horrible

Christmas at Ground Zero - Weird Al
Maybe some stuff by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

also here's a really weird christmas song about an italian donkey.

Oi to the world by The Vandals is pretty good but I dunno I can't really stand most christmas music other than Trans siberian orchestra's live show which is good for it's sheer comedy value.

The Shoshone Love Song
Breath of Heaven
The song from the Peanuts Christmas Special?
Merry New York Christmas (I think is the title...it's by Rob Thomas)
-
1. Just because I'm looking for non-traditional songs doesn't mean I'm looking for anti-Christmas songs. It can be all about Jesus and Santa and whatever, I just don't want the same old boring Christmas carols, you know?
2. Steel, drop me a link to the Troubadours album. I didn't know that there was a Troubadours Xmas album.
