Title: finals
Post by: Marmot on December 10, 2008, 06:29:10 pm
so finals............

i got a 3.5 overall in chem. thats good because i hated that class and i think i just went to the first day and test days. i failed the first test and had like a 50 in homework, so i just vomited information in the last one and got a 3.5. its not amazing, but is nice.

i got a 3 in honors physics i think. thats really bad but that class was tough and i didnt get the hang of it until after i failed the first two out of three tests. thats not gonna happen again though. now i know that college is not a little game, especiall physics. i pulled an alnighter and i felt surprisingly fine, except in the middle of the night where i got a caffeinesugar crash and realized those things are not good for alnighters. i bought some turkey ham in hope the proteins and the liters of waters would help me survive it and it did.

now in 2 hours i am gonna have astrophysics. thats easy. i have a 4 in that

friday i have calc iii and i think ill do alright in that.

so wjhat about yall

Livestock Products Technology on Friday. Got a good grade in the coursework and project, so this is smooth sailing.

Animal Nutrition on Monday. I don't know shit about this! I'm screwed, basically.

Animal Physiology and Diversity on Tuesday. Hopefully I can remember everything I did in the coursework and the labs. But this shouldn't be too bad.

Already finished Law and Economy final.

I got my work cut out for me! I fucking hate exams. I fuckin hate.. college... "Don't go to college. Be like Dr. Dre" ~ penn & teller

my classes are totally jokes. i have a 4.0 in my math class and i've probably only actually been in class 3 or 4 times. every test is a take home test, as is the exam. he gave us the exam last week and it's due monday haha. i have a 4.0 in history too so im not worried about that exam. my computer class i have like a 3.0 in because i missed a few classes (you get 0's on the CLASSWORK or whatever and can't make it up if you miss a class) but that class is really easy so i'm not worried about it either.

i only took a few classes this semester so it was pretty easy. next semester i have a lot more so i will actually have to try a little bit. :(

I just had my Microeconomics final this morning, I feel fairly confident on it but even still since it's so much multiple choice (with very similar choices) there's no telling how it will turn out.  I felt good about the two open response questions though.  I just hope I did good because I failed one of the tests in the class and got a low C on the other (these are like the worst grades I've had in a class ever, not counting the awful calculus class I had that I dropped because the teacher was so bad).  The final is the only other test we had.  I got an A on the research paper but it's such a small portion of the grade that I don't know how much it will help.  Oh well, considering I participate (moreso than a lot of people in the class) I don't think he's going to let me not pass.

I have German and Data Structures finals tomorrow, and then Advent of the Algorithm on Friday.  I just hate that I have to be here until like...1 on Friday, I really just want to go back home.

I love Microeconomics, man. Wish I could go back to them.. Microeconomics days.

Microeconomics was a really great class it's just that we had a test that was pretty much NOTHING but multiple choice questions about graphs we would have had to have memorized and I had no idea we even had to learn the graphs (I thought we just had to be able to interperet them) and the choices were so similar that I couldn't really figure it out without having memorized those graphs.  If I remembered my grades right, then if I get a B on my final I should have a C.  If not, I think he'll bump it up to a C anyway, I can't really imagine him failing me.

The lowest grade on that test was a 30-something and I had a 50 so I guess I wasn't the only one.

Let's see...
I'm about to hand in a paper I wrote for my Shakespeare class, but I have a final next Friday for this class.
Tonight I need to make my poetry portfolio, but that shouldn't take long, and I need to write a paper, and edit a paper for my fiction class.
Tomorrow I need to do a bunch of tests on my data so that I can finish writing my research paper, then turn in the stuff I do tonight.
Next week I have one day of class, then finals for three classes, and then I need to have my research paper written by I think the 19th.

I'm more than halfway through all the final class stuff, so it's a nice relief.

Yeah, my first year of college was easy too.  It hasn't been that difficult, it's just that I've gotten lazier since then, and things seem more difficult by relation.

I just finished Ideas that Shaped the Modern World, An Introduction to Humanities, Media Ethics, and Linguistics. I feel fine for all of them, got my term papers back and they're all pretty decent. Scored the highest mark on one w00t.

Tomorrow I have my last exam. I'm not too worried as it's on 6 readings of Marshall McLuhan which I studied to death since I didn't get it for the first month.

Just had German and Math.  German was easy cause it was take home...but math...

Well the teacher was cool and gave us shit loads of extra credit for nothing (and that's probably the only reason I will pass), but last class he wasn't there (something happened I guess) and after 40 minutes waiting in class, someone went up to ask about him and they called his home and cell and no answer so we all left.  Which sucked because he was supposed to teach us some stuff that day that would be on the final.  Today was the final and he still wasn't there (I hope nothing serious happened to him) but the last page of the final had shit on it we didn't really learn so that sucked.

I've got a Mythology final tonight at 7 that I have to make a 100 on (as well as nail 10 extra credit questions) to come out with a C. Kids, go to class or else you might miss a test and you'll be fuuuuuucked. It's really annoying because this is a class I could have slept through and come out with an A- if I hadn't missed that one test.

Then I've got a Media Law/Ethics test on Friday at 8 in the morning which is going to be cake. It's nothing but Shield Laws, FOIA stuff, Sunshine Acts and Supreme Court cases related to those.

most of my exam stuff is just essays. i've got 500 words of one more to do then i'm done.

first year of university is pretty floppin easy.

Yeah that's what I thought after my first fall semester, so in spring I slacked off and ended up with a 2.1 GPA for the semester.

gah my finals were a mixed bag. didnt have one in anthro, had one in trig and one in persian

trig wasnt too bad. persian has been and still is a nightmare. you see the exam is like this:

Outside of class:
-Read a story from our text book, record it, email to professor
-Create a report containing EVERYTHING we learned this quarter nice and organized
-300 word dictionary. Each word must have a sentence and you must use the word in the sentence. (I did some of these really stoned really late at night and they are really funny and dont make sense at all haha)
In Class:
150 question exam including translate from persian to english, english to persian, fill in the blanks, unscramble sentences, answer questions, and a short essay

it is clear that he wants certain folks to fail the class and not take it next quarter lol. what doesnt kill you makes you stronger

THANK GOD FOR PRIOR KNOWLEDGE I DONT HAVE TO STUDY FOR 30 BILLION HOURS LIKE YOU JERKS

This is what makes my Advent of the Algorithm class so easy because it basically takes stuff from our Foundations of CS class and just expands on the history parts.  It's just shit about Hollerith and Babbage and other people who led to important CS stuff up until the 80s (that's when our book was written and we didn't have time to cover the stuff that happened after the book), most of which I already knew.  And since it's a CS AND Math class, most of the class is made up of math students that know nothing about computers so our projects were things like WRITE AN ALGORITHM FOR A PAPER AIRPLANE and WRITE A PROGRAM IN LOGO and DO A HUFFMAN TREE.  Combine that with the fact that I already knew most of the history stuff, and this has been an easy class.

yea idk, like ryan my school is dumb and easy sooooo I ALSO HAVE FINALS (a couple tomorrow and a couple early next week) but i do not really care since yeah, they are all easy As.  actually 3 are easy As and my english one idk about because he just mentioned we even have a final last week and i'm not sure if he is testing us on ENGLISH or on NATURE (this is all we have talked about).

so yeah, i'm lightweight worried because i should have a 4.0 for the semester buuuuut if the final is on some shit i don't even know about then my tanking it could potentially knock me from an A to a B in the class which would mean i'd get like a 3.7 or whatever which is p unacceptable to me.  i think maybe i will email him and ask him what the fuck the test is even about

Marmot, your marks are over a total of 5 points?

Today I finished my exams so I am in summer break until March.

As of now I only know one result, that of Latinoamerican History, which I thought I didn't do so good and ended up with an 8 over 10. Sweet stuff.

Had to write 25 pages for Latinoamerican Political Systems.

2 essays for Contemporary International Relations.

And today I wrote an exam for Argentine Political Affairs. Dunno how I did it, I was pretty fed up with studying and such. I know I delivered, but dunno if I'll hold the 9 of the partial exam.

All in all, uni isn't so tough. You just have to read stuff.

My last final is in 23 hours.
The previous 2 were in the last 24hours.
I need more time between finals so I can adequately prepare :(

Anyway, I'm pretty worried that all my marks are going to be very close to failing, but hopefully I don't, because I'm not really into retaking shit (nor do my parents really want to keep contributing money for me to do so)

My college is on a pass or fail system, with a pass being over 60 or 65% depending on the class, and since we only get Ps or Fs on our transcripts all you have to do is pass and you're good. We also only take one course at a time, so right now I only have one exam coming up. I feel sorry for those who have like 5 exams in one week. I do have exams often it seems, but I like my system a whole lot better than when I was in first year university and had 5 simultaneous courses going on.

So yeah, I have my 100% final in Endocrine in two days, and I just need to get a 60 or above. I really hope I can do it since this class was only a 3 week course and I just started committing things to memory this week. (After being in Cardiology for 8 weeks straight I just got burned out).

Wish me luck! (There are way too many drugs for Type II diabetes that I need to memorize.  :blarg:)

Nah, to me the first year was the most difficult due to:
- lack of adaptation (school to uni)
- not used to study (at school I got high marks without studying much)
- diverse classes, most which I don't give a damn about. So I had to read against will.
- I grew more mature through the years, learned how to handle classes, what to study and such.
- Likewise, gained in confidence

ah i can relate to the shit first years- on top of those things you mentioned, soup, i had mono (along with the rest of my res) and was ALWAYS tired. my roommate was on the phone from 2am-4am since it was the only time her bf could talk. also, in my res you couldn't open the door or window (more than an inch) and our AC was broken HEATING our room during a heat wave. it was absolutely ridiculous.

on a bright note, for the second term i was able to move to the best res on campus since i hate a doctors note. i'm pretty sure every single person in that building had a doctor's note to get in... and mine was the only legit one :S

Yeah, I'm already at a 4-year and I plan on going to grad school.  Grades are very important!  Also, I don't know why you SHOULDN'T be concerned with your grades, that is just ridiculous.  That transcript is going to follow you to job and school applications.  Plus it's important to my parents, although I think I beat myself up over it more than they ever would.  I'm not one of those people who has to constantly get A's, I'm just one of those people who feels bad when they get a C.

More studying, less GW.

Fuck off, I study a lot.  I studied plenty for that economics test I failed, it was just that I was studying the theory stuff in the chapters and not the graphs.  I had no idea we were supposed to memorize these graphs, I just thought we were supposed to be able to say things about them.

This is part of the problem. I find that very unhealthy for a person.

Getting good grades are important if you need them to continue your path in education at grad school, sure. I won't argue against that because only a fool would argue against that.

That said, there's no point getting hung up over poor grades or getting downright depressed/stressed-out over them. I am simply content when I take a class I enjoy and I learn new things in that class. My priorities are different than yours though, apparently.

Like I said though, I'm not one of those people who stresses over getting A's and does nothing but study.  I don't get DEPRESSED or even all that stressed over my grades, I'm just DISAPPOINTED in myself, which I think is p. normal.  When you feel like you could have done better and you didn't, you tend to not be happy about it.  I guess I should have chosen my words better, instead of 'beating myself up' over it.  I just mean I'm more concerned with it than my parents, but they're concerned too.

Also, that is why I would like it to be pass/fail.  I would be content just to know that I learned new things, but my plans for the future include grad school and that's really fucking important to me, that's why I need to get good grades!

i wrote about 20 pages of essay in the last week, too, but that was it apart from a half hour multiple choice test.

i guess we don't have 'finals' which seems like a stupid idea anyway, but hand in essays throughout the modules with a big one and a little test at the end and get an overall mark.

i mean if you've done some reading it only takes a few hours to put together a 10 page essay.

the easiest way to make long essay writings is getting your class notes and just write paragraphs from those jagged little pieces of information in your notes
