EDIT: Vote in the poll guys!
I haven't really been interested in the NFL for the last few years, but our Tennessee Titans have been pretty hard to ignore this season. They've had their best season in years as they are currently standing at 13-2 and today they managed to clinch the AFC South and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs with a 31-14 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I think it's pretty amazing that they've done all of this shit with a backup quarterback, and I was really surprised to see that the defense was so hot today even though our star defensive lineman was out of commission.
So, discuss your favorite team's season and whether or not they're going to the playoffs here.
-
Next weeks game with the Broncos vs The Chargers is gonna be intense.
Lets go.. Broncos.. Lets go Broncos, Lets go!
-
The Skins are out. :(
-
Lets go.. Broncos.. Lets go Broncos, Lets go!
HELL no. Chargers FTW!
I'm not a big fan of football. But I'll be a fan of my team as long as they put my city on the map.
-
I'm watching the NY Giants at Carolina right now and it's pretty intense! It's 21-20 Carolina right now in the third quarter, and Eli seems to be a bit off his game today. They're both 11-2 this season and they seem to be pretty evenly matched so far.
I hope Carolina wins!
-
As long as the Steelers don't make it to the Super Bowl I'll be happy. Steelers fans are the biggest assholes I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.
-
Giants and Panthers are going into overtime tied at 28 right now, and NY won the toss. Pretty awesome game!
If the Steelers can be judged by their performance today then I don't think they'll make it past the second week of the playoffs. I was just talking earlier today about how the Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals are the two teams that WILL NOT make it into the third round.
And yeah, Steeler's fans are pricks. They take it really personally when they lose, and I'm pretty sure Bill Cowher started that tradition.
-
Eagles seriously have the worst fans, them and the Raiders at least.
Also the playoffs are still a pretty big tossup. I don't think a single team is looking dominant enough to be a guaranteed shot. Probably the Giants if anything because the NFC is pretty weak on the road this year and they have home field locked up.
-
NFL Playoffs - First Round Schedule
Indianapolis vs San Diego
Going with the Colts for this one, as much as I hate to. I think their offense has been pretty damn productive this season and if Peyton can keep the ball in his own receivers' hands then there won't be much to it.
Baltimore vs Miami
Baltimore is looking pretty solid this year, but Chad Pennington has an outstanding arm and the Dolphin's defense is looking better than it has in years. I think it's too close to call and it's gonna be an awesome matchup.
Philadelphia vs Minnesota
Also set up to be a great match. I think Philadelphia's dominant passing game is going to be offset by Minnesota's run, so it could really go either way.
Arizona vs Atlanta
When I first heard that Arizona was going to the playoffs I didn't really think much of it, and I'm still pretty convinced that they're going to be eliminated within the first two rounds. However, I checked up on Kurt Warner's stats this season and it looks like he's determined to make a go of it. Michael Turner's total rushing yards for this season more than triple that of his Cardinals counterpart, however, so it'll be interesting to see which offense is more productive.
In others news:
3 NFL Coaches GET THE AXE (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/story/2008/12/29/lions-coach.html?ref=rss)
I happened to notice this in a convenience store today. The head coaches of the Lions, Browns, and NY Jets all got fired this week, which is kind of a bummer considering the Jets had a pretty decent season if you disregard the fact that they had a pretty serious stumble near the end of it. The Lions are the first team EVER to lose all 16 regular season games, though.
There's also talk that Brett Favre is retiring once again, so if this happens then the Jets will have to worry about dealing with a new administration AND reworking their offensive strategy for a new QB next season.
So, who's gonna be watching this weekend?
-
Indianapolis vs San Diego
This one's a tossup, Colts are coming in pretty hot, but it's still a one dimensional team around Manning for the most part, and sunday night had some flashes of the old LT.
Baltimore vs Miami
Pennington is probably my MVP vote, and I like the Dolphins, but I don't think the Ravens are going to allow any real offense here.
Philadelphia vs Minnesota
Depends on the playcalling. If Reid plays stupid and calls 50 pass plays, Vikings get it, if Reid calls a balanced offense like he should, Philly dominates, either way the Eagles D will make life rough on AP and Jackson
Arizona vs Atlanta
Shootout, but Atlanta is a decently balanced team while the Cards pretty much rely on Warner and the WR team.
-
mike shannahan of the denver broncos was also fired today.
additionally, the pats boasting 11 victorys will not make it to the play offs. fuck brett favre and the jets. patriots would have been so dangerous this year, cassel has been beautiful and we're on a roll.
oh well, c'est la vis!
-
Yeah Bob, I'm hoping that the Titans don't find themselves trying to stare down the Baltimore D even with homefield advantage this year. I think the best scenario as far as a game in Nashville goes would be for Miama to eliminate the Ravens and Indianapolis going on to beat the Chargers. The Titans have two or three different DB's going to the Pro Bowl this year and they've already proven once this season that they can handle Manning's arsenal.
And I agree about the Eagles. As long as they approach the game a bit conservatively and don't count on it as a sure win then they'll probably be good for round 2. I think the Cardinals and the Vikings do have the potential to be dangerous in the first round simply because their opponents may make the mistake of underestimating them.
-

yea, no kidding! I'm sure all the pats-haters will disagree with me but I am extremely disappointed at the way the season just ended for them. It really fucking blows that teams like the cardinals move on to the playoffs due to being in a shitty division while the pats win 11 games and get nothing to show for it simply by being in a crazy-good division.
This method of choosing playoff teams is one of two things the NFL really needs to rethink for next year - that, and the entire rules of overtime. It's been unfair for plenty of teams this year that lost in overtime simply because they lost the coin toss. Argue as much as you want about the need for a solid defense in overtime, but not being given the chance to touch the ball is insane.
-
OT should be a full quarter and roughing the passer should be a penalty reserved only for when linemen breach the line of scrimmage WIELDING CHAINSAWS.
Also a friend of mine and I got into an argument the other day and I'm still not sure on the official rules for this: can pass interference legally be called if the ball is uncatchable? This is one of those areas where I'm kinda mixed up on the difference between college football and the NFL. I personally thought that in the NFL is a ball cannot feasibly be touched by a receiver and then he's hit as the ball is tossed in his GENERAL DIRECTION then it's not pass interference. Am I right?
-
I'd feel more sorry for Pats fans if not for the fact that the AFC East has often been pretty easy and the Pats had one of the easiest schedules this year.
Anyway I'm going with Eagles or Colts for the bowl. I think the Colts can handle the Titans with how Manning has been playing lately.
Also the team that wins the coin toss only wins OT 52% of the time btw.
Also PI is only called if the ball is "catchable" although it's a pretty vague definition of what is an uncatchable ball, aside from it automatically being ruled uncatchable if it was tipped.
-
Cardinals put the Atlanta Falcons out! Now Indie and San Diego are tied with 35 seconds left in regulation. Looks like overtime right now, Indie's got the ball.
-
Oooooooh shit Chargers won the toss!
-
AND THE CHARGERS BRING IT IN FOR THE TD. Fucking bye bye Mr. Manning!
-
God that Colts defense is terrible.
Also Cardinals winning today was so fucking awesome.
-
Yeah dude Kurt Warner was in rare form. And how about Sproles ripping up that Indy D?
Two upsets already. Wonder what's gonna happen tomorrow....
-
Kurt should be solid through the playoffs, they didn't even have anything to play for in most of his shit games, and hopefully he won't play in bad weather.
-
Congrats to the Cards and Chargers... Both were going in opposite directions but they both came out winners... Sproles tearing it right through the heart of Indy's D. That was shocking and the Falcons couldn't stop the passing game and contain the versatile wideouts of the Cards... Even James outgained Michael Turner, the #2 rusher in yardage in the NFL only behind Adrian Peterson..
Oh man... Eagles baby, hope there's another upset on the horizon...
-
Goddammit is anyone else watching Chad Pennington throw right now? Three interceptions in the last 10 minutes!
Fucking Baltimore D....
-
hahaha i just turned it on. did you see that fumble? christ. they had such solid momentum too.
-
Yeah Miami looked pathetic up against the Raven's D. I thought they might turn it around early in the 4th but the botched handoff fucked'em.
Alright, so next week's schedule so far is San Diego vs. Pittsburgh and Baltimore vs. Tennessee.
Anyone else heard anything about Roethlesberger's concussion? Last I saw they were saying that he would be playing but his condition was questionable.
I'd like to call Tennessee for the win next week but it's going to be a HUGE defensive game. In theory Kerry Collins should outgun Flacco by leaps and bounds, but judging from the Ravens D today it's going to be a hard fought battle.
Hey here's that badass Sproles run from yesterday.
-
Ravens just physically dominated the Dolphins... Their D led by Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Ed Reed, etc. was way too much for Pennington, Ronnie Brown, Ricky and company to handle... And man, I don't know if it was butterflies or not as well but that unforced turnover where they lost like 15 yards was absolutely pathetic. Dolphins did themselves in as well..
But Eagles are up next baby... Hoping for a Philly win over the Vikings... Gotta somehow contain Peterson though.
-
Peterson has already broken one rush for over 40 yards and a TD. However, Samuel just intercepted Jackson and ran it back for a TD!
Currently 16-7 Philly.
-
i am rooting for all the underdogs as og now.
go vikings.
-
gogogooo peterson
-
Philly wins. That was a pretty good game. Can't wait for next week when the Steelers get their asses handed to them.
-
So it's gonna be...
Baltimore vs. Tennessee
Low scoring, small yardage defensive game. Kerry Collins outperforms Joe Flacco, who cannot deal with Tennessee's line. I'm also gonna call at least one interception for both teams, but I'm hoping Tennessee will try to come out and chip away at the Ravens D with a solid running game.
San Diego vs. Pittsburgh
They held their own against the Colts and the NFL's 2008 MVP, and I think it's a pretty clear call for San Diego to advance once again against Pittsburgh. If he's playing I think Roethlesberger will be a lot more conservative in the pocket after that last regular season game and the Steeler's defense has been shaky at best all season. If the San Diego D can hit the field strong and knock Ben around a bit he'll be a lame duck in the second half.
Carolina vs. Arizona
No chance for Arizona here, as they'll finally find themselves up against a real playoff team. Granted this won't be Kurt Warner's first trip to the postseason field, but the rest of the team hasn't seen a second round game in DECADES. It's been a great run for the Cardinals but it's coming to an end next week.
New York Giants vs. Philadelphia
This one's gonna be the game to watch next week. Likely a high-scoring shootout between two experienced quarterbacks and respective balanced defenses. It's going to be an unpredictable matchup!
-
i wanna make a post making fun of sports but i dont know enough about sports to do anything but post paragraphs of sportsportsportsports. lil help???
-
Hmmm...you could think about some sort of play on words with common sports buzzwords like SOLID and SHOOTOUT and PENETRATION.
Because seriously the Chris Collinsworth commentary on Madden 09 is the gayest shit ever.
"And the Giants are really penetrating that tight defensive formation, John."
"A tight end is like a nice, warm blanket."
-
For this week
Carolina 20 Cards 24
Giants 17 Eagles 28
Titans 14 Ravens 17
Chargers 10 Steelers 13
-
Woooooo...Eagles up by 11 against the Giants??????
I actually forgot to include that I think the Baltimore/Tennessee game will be a three point game, but in the other direction.
-
Eagles have been looking great lately while I'm not sure if Jacobs is at 100% and they don't have Plax. Ravens have Ed Reed which is all they need. Steelers already beat SD once so I figure they'll win again, and I can see Cards pulling off the upset.
-
Wait wait wait..... did some one just say the Steeler's Defense has been shaky at best all season? The stats, and overall play say otherwise with the Steeler's leading all other defenses the entire season.
-
I assume he meant offense. This year's Steelers' defense is one of the best ever.
-
Actually I meant defense but I was only going by the game I saw them play against the Titans late in the season. Other than that I haven't really been watching them play so it's kinda surprising to me that they actually have a great defense this year. The Titans offense isn't really spectacular and they seemed to perform a lot better against the Steelers than other defenses in the league this year, but I guess that still makes my original claim unsubstantiated.
FUCK FOILED AGAIN.
-
That game was pretty much the only bad one for their defense. Aside from that game their defense has performed as well as the '70s Steel Curtain defenses. The real problem with the D is whether or not the offense gives up turnovers and good field position.
-
Ah, so now it makes sense that early on people were calling the Steelers as favorites to go to the Super Bowl. Their 70's D was fucking ridiculous.
-
Yeah, my current pick right now though is Ravens over Eagles in the Super Bowl.
-
EAGLES BABY... Westbrook is a beast... 'nough said.
-
Thought I'd post some videos with official NFL projections since we're coming up on the second round this weekend.

in others FUTBAWL news fuck oklahoma lost :(
-
I was very sad when OSU lost to Texes, but man it was still the best College game of the year at lest!
-
I'm predicting Titans, Chargers, Eagles, and Panthers moving on.
-
Wooo Go Chargers!
So what are the chances of them doing well against the Steelers, esp. taking into account their defense and our injuries + weather conditioning?
-
From what I understand the Steelers defense is outstanding this season and the Chargers are shiny happy people who tend to fuck up a lot in bad weather so we'll see.
Also RAAAAR GO TITANS
Man if the Titans can pull this one off today they're my pick for the Super Bowl.
-
From what I understand the Steelers defense is outstanding this season and the Chargers are shiny happy people who tend to fuck up a lot in bad weather so we'll see.
Heh. We San Diegans are just not aware of bad weather outside of our unchanging weather sphere.
-
Ravens win. Joe Flacco becomes the first ever rookie QB to win two playoff games on the road.
-
FUCKING...
Did anyone else see that play that was CLEARLY delay of game? The play clock was at 0 for 2 SECONDS and yet the referee fails to call it and Flacco completes for a first down. That last Ravens drive should have never happened.
Titans were miserable with the turnovers though. OH WELL! Next fucking year I guess.
-
alright, so 1/1 for playoff picks for me so far (they were in my head heh)
Ravens
Chargers
Giants
Panthers
-
Holy shit, Arizona is crushing Carolina right now 27-7.
-
welp there goes my perfect record. jake delhomme can suck my d*ng
-
Man nothing is going right for me this week.
GO ARIZONA SUPERBOWL CHAMPS?!
-
Well, I'm 0-2. Hopefully the Steelers get their asses kicked tomorrow.
-
Oh man, today was excellent.
-
The Cards won... you must be shitting me...
Delhomme was Arizona's best player for sure.
I kind of knew that the Ravens would beat the Titans... Just 2 great defenses going at it and the Titans looked pretty vulnerable in the last few weeks of the season, even though they manged to beat the Steelers in the last game.
-
3-0 on picking teams this weekend, and I now get to see the NFC Championship game at home.
-
PHILLY EAGLES.. YEAH BABY!
Can't believe they pulled it off!! And I'm pretty confident that their swarming defense will own the Cards... And their weak secondary can't keep up with Jackson, Smith, Westbrook, etc, etc
Asante Samuel was a pretty good pickup for em'! I think this is their year to win it all
-
Halftime and the Charges just got their ass ran over by the Steelers. I don't think they can hold on and change it in the next half.
-
Wow, what a helluva goal line stand by the Chargers on 4th and inches. They're still down by three scores but it's not over yet!
Here's an article (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Play-clock-was-at-zero-for-crucial-Ravens-first?urn=nfl,133498) about that Ravens non-call last night that I was talking about.
-
My attempts at attending an NFC Championship game have failed, due to Cards vs Eagles selling out in 6 minutes.
-
My attempts at attending an NFC Championship game have failed, due to Cards vs Eagles selling out in 6 minutes.
That seems kind of... slow actually.
-
Not for a stadium that needed 2 extensions to sell out for the Wild Card matchup.
-
Cards are killing the Eagles right now. Fitzgerald has already caught 3 TD passes.
-
YES!
-
Whoa whoa whoa...huge collision with Clark and McGahee during the Steelers/Ravens game.
McGahee may be seriously injured.
-
Fucking Steelers.
Edit: Added a poll, so go ahead and vote on who you think/hope will win.
-
Hoping for the Cards here. Warner is looking at not only a Hall of Fame bust in Canton right now, but he might be a top 10-20 all time QB.
-
I am going with the Steelers for the super bowl win. Cards might have had a good run, but I don't think they have faced anything like the Steelers D. Also the Cards D showed some cracks today during the second half.
-
I am going with the Steelers for the super bowl win. Cards might have had a good run, but I don't think they have faced anything like the Steelers D. Also the Cards D showed some cracks today during the second half.
Eagles were a top 5 D, and the Cards have had to play 3 games on the road against good teams, one of them being across the country.
-
take that everybody's expectations
-
Superbowl 43 and pretty pissed that the Eagles lost that one but it was a great season for an otherwise 'not even expected to make the Playoffs' year after that tie to Cinci and loss to the Deadskins...
NFC Championship appearance and taking out the #1 seed in the NFC and their bitter rivals, the Giants.. I'd say that's pretty damn successful!
Cardinals just had too many offensive weapons... Fitzgerald especially is just insane. Even with Boldin not getting many touches, Eagles didn't cover him very well despite having Brown and Dawkins cheating on him. Eagles came back in the end and if only they stopped the Cards on the last drive, then it would've been a different result.
But hey congrats to the Cards... Didn't really catch much of the Steelers and Ravens game but saw the 4th Quarter and Polamalu does what he does best... Reads the offense very well and made a great INT off Flacco to seal the deal.
I'm a Steelers fan now... I hope they murder the Cards... Gonna bust out my Hines Ward jersey now I guess!
-
I feel terrible that I haven't been keeping up AT ALL with this season because I am from Pittsburgh!
-
There was a pretty big controversy here in Tennessee because we beat the Steelers in the regular season and near the end of it Keith Bullock and some other dudes were stomping you guys' yellow towel on camera.
I haven't had faith in the Cards throughout the entire postseason and they proved me wrong every fucking time so I'm on the bandwagon now. Go Arizona!
-
Not a huge football guy here. Never watch games, but I currently live in AZ and my family HATES the Steelers with passion.
So go AZ!
Also, my family are huge Colts fans so this year was a big let down for them (/w Steelers in and Colts out). They think the chargers would have lost if the refs didn't go against the Colts every time they made a call.
-
Go Steelers!
-
So let's talk about Super Bowl party plans and whatnot so we can keep this thread going until the event is finally upon us.
I have a 42 inch hi-def LCD television that I'm going to be watching the game on, PLUS I have ESPN and ESPN2 in hi definition and a pretty ballin' surround sound system to ensure MAXIMUM VIEWING AND HEARING SERVICES. I'm gonna have a bunch of people over at the house to watch it and we're gonna indulge in the traditional nachos and pepsi ceremony.
Anyone know who's doing the halftime show this year?
-
Bruce Springsteen's doing halftime.
I just realized which team I should be favoring. :)
-
Also here's (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80e2df54&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true) a top ten list of the best trick plays of the season.
-
About a half hour to go until kickoff. I can't wait for this to start. Shitsburgh is going down.
-
oh man. steelers fucking dominated first quarter, arizona's starting to play pretty hard but i think we can keep it up!
-
Ahhhhhh who saw that 100 yard interception.
By a linebacker.
-
that was pretty amazing. arizona's gonna have to make a major turnaround
-
ffffffffffffffffffffffffff
jesus christ steelers, that was the most insane play ever. longest play in super bowl history
-
Fuck Pittsburgh
-
ffffffffffffffffffffffffff
jesus christ steelers, that was the most insane play ever. longest play in super bowl history
holy shit really! i could've sworn there were previous 100 yard returns!
-
Cards take the lead with 2:37 to go. :)
-
Just started watching. 20-23 @ 2:00 in the 4th... whoa
-
WHOA Steelers make a possible comeback!
-
Fuck, Steelers win.
-
WHOA COMEBACK!
-
Holy shit I'm watching it right now (its the 4th at :29)
I knew the steelers were going to come back. Of course everyone knew
You never know God may intervine
psyche
-
That's all she wrote
27-23 Steelers for the win.
-
STEEEEEEEEEEEEELERS
-
Refs win again!
-
STEELERS
-
Fuck I hate the steelers, but I really don't give a shit about the cardinals so It was for the best!
Enjoy your phat rings
-
man, that was probably the most exciting superbowl i've ever watched. too bad the steelers won :(
-
Yeah that was pretty awesome, I couldn't sit down. Though that last play was a fumble, it still should have been reviewed.
And fuck Harrison, that was some of the worst conduct I've ever seen.
-
yeah, Harrison's play was amazing but his penalty in the 2nd half was just disgusting: pushing the guy down while he's on his all fours and then punching him in the chest. He should have been thrown out of the game
-
that fumble! I can't believe that man... But yeah, that was the most exciting game I've watched since the Probowl last year.
-
Yeah all the uneccisary roughness/personal fouls were pretty gay. There was like three or something on one quarter? I dun remember
But what can you say its pittsburg...
-
Wow what a game... I was literally out of my seat for the entire thing. Congrats to the Steelers for winning a very memorable Superbowl 27-23 against a very competitive Arizona Cardinals team that nobody gave a chance. Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner played outstanding coming back from a 20-3 deficit to take the lead at 23-20 with around 2 minutes to go..
But man, Santonio Holmes.. this year's Superbowl MVP made it happen at the end. Making so many clutch plays and getting the winning TD catch with 45 seconds to go to put the Steelers up for good at 27-23, which was the winning score.
What a memorable game and congrats to the Steelers organization for becoming the winningest franchise with now 6 Superbowl titles, passing the stalemate they had with the Dallas Cowboys who have 5.

Now... The commercials. They were generally great this year. They had a trailer for the new transformers movie, one for a cool movie called 'Year 1', another for some prehistoric one featuring Will Ferrell and a cool animated movie called 'Aliens vs Monsters' that looks pretty sweet.
In case you missed any commercial, here they are all again:
http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/43/videos/commercials?icampaign=SB43_3column_1
Did anyone end up having or going to a party this year? I actually didn't this year but would've loved to after seeing how good this game was. But next year for sure, when the Eagles make it in.
Discuss.
-
Nah no party here. I was just browsing GW while watching
Btw how much weed do you think you can smoke from the superbowl at one sitting? I bet the think holds like a ounce at a time
-
Packers are still the winningest franchise.
-
Yeah, Favre is the man
oh wait
-
replace Favre with Starr and you'd be right
-
True dat.
-
Fuck the Steelers. D: God...damn...
-
I'm not a really big football fan but we had my birthday/superbowl party with one of those bud light party balls and it was really fun.
This game was good but I didn't like the ref calls made during the first 3/4 of the game so I switched from going for the steelers to arizona its a shame they lost.
-
Yeah this was the most exciting game I've watched in a long time. I kinda regret not giving the Cardinals a chance throughout the entire postseason!
There were some pretty questionable calls, but overall it was a hard-fought battle and hella fun to watch. I just hope Kurt Warner doesn't retire after this one!
-
first game of american football I actually care about the result and my guys lose :(
fuck cardinals did excellent to overcome the 13-point deficit and I am pretty sure that was an incomplete pass not a fumble! (this may be completely wrong)
-
Yeah, it's a fucking shame that what was a pretty exciting/close game was ended due to a questionable call that wasn't even reviewed :\
-
Yeah I couldn't believe they didn't review that last play either. To me it looked very much like Warner had forward motion and it should have been ruled an incomplete pass rather than a fumble.
-
My cousin was telling me about how some of the games aren't even legit anymore because you've got people fixing them left and right. I thought that was kind of paranoid and shit but with those stupid calls its got to make you wonder.
-
I don't know, doesn't the arm have to more than 90 degrees before its considered forward motion? Looked like he barely brought it to 90 before letting go...
-
Pretty much all the calls where good, there was just alot of them. Can't really think of any of them that where questionable besides the last fumble at the end.
-
My cousin was telling me about how some of the games aren't even legit anymore because you've got people fixing them left and right. I thought that was kind of paranoid and shit but with those stupid calls its got to make you wonder.
Your cousin is wrong!
Most of the calls weren't stupid, both teams were playing really rough this time around. The only questionable ones that game was the last play by the Cardinals and maybe 2 or so minor plays that went towards the Steelers. Cardinals had their share of good moments with the refs (the safety reversal, unnecessary roughness, and unsportsman like conduct). I'd say it was about even until that last play, which should have been reviewed.
-
yeah you're probably right because even though I was watching the game I don't watch it nearly enough to know all of the rules on calls and spot them myself. I liked the part where that big black guy on the steelers punched the shit out of the cardinal dude.
even though he was being an asshole I would have probably gotten frustrated too and done the same thing especially if the cardinals were playing rough too and pulling crap.
-
I thought the 100-yard interception return by the Steeler's was clearly NOT a touchdown. I don't know about you guys, but I thought it was pretty obvious that his knee went down in between Larry Fitzgerald's legs before the ball ever broke the plane. The was probably one of the most significant calls of the game, too!
Also I was pretty surprised by all of the holding calls. One thing I've heard before is that holding takes place so much during a football game that refs generally don't call it unless it's blatantly obvious and significantly impacts the course of the play. It seemed to me like the refs were calling it EVERY TIME during this game and there were a couple of times I just didn't see it.
-
I think they didn't want either side getting away with shit and just jumped the gun a few times, it didn't ruin the game but it definitely had a fairly significant impact on the outcome.

Well the funny thing is due to the face mask by the Cards on the run back even if it was not a touch down, since it happened after the interception, It would have given the Steelers one free play at the line.
As for holding. Well that is some what true and false. Its more about the fact that refs let Linemen hold in the chest work of another player as long as the other player is in front of them. They call a hold when it becomes a drag or if they hold onto the shoulder.

I thought the 100-yard interception return by the Steeler's was clearly NOT a touchdown. I don't know about you guys, but I thought it was pretty obvious that his knee went down in between Larry Fitzgerald's legs before the ball ever broke the plane. The was probably one of the most significant calls of the game, too!
yeah, I thought this too, this is one of the ones that sticks in my mind as being a bit dodgy.

the way i saw that play was that his knee was on top of the other players leg. it was very close, but i don't think your knee touching another players knee on the ground (that is on the ground) counts as downing the player. his knee doesn't touch the actual ground until after the ball broke the plane of the line.

Yes, as long as the player's knee with the ball doesn't actually touch the solid ground, then the play is still alive. He simply bounced off of Fitzgerald who was lying on the ground, which quite frankly was a very smart thing to do in that situation. The ball and his elbow crossed the goal line as well.

oh I guess I couldn't see that (harrison's body in the way and all), that makes a bit more sense.
