as of 12:00am 12/31/2008 everyone zune has froze. Mine did, and every Web site I have looked at are filled with reports of the same thing. This sucks.
just look at this

IT only seems to be the 30gb zune ,that sucks, there are a lot of pissed of people
-
That's so bizarre! Is it totally bricked, and would they replace it?
-
hahahahahaa

Y2K8: THE DAY THE ZUNE FROZE
-
fuck you j allard fix my zune
-
Wow this is pretty horrible! I just booted mine up and I have the same problem.
-
hahahaha this is awesome. sweet firmware, microsoft...
i have a 30gb zune sitting in my drawer but it's been broken forever soooo
-
AHAHAHAHAH this is so great
my brother has a zune that he got when he washed the ipod I bought him for christmas like a week after getting it. And my buddy got a zune just to be a dick when I told him ipods were better.
NOW THEY BROKE
-
lmao. i once considered getting a zune, but then i tried the software on my girlfriend's computer and wanted to cut my hands off. The Zune software is such an annoying piece of shit (but so is iTunes)
-
ATTN: 30gb zune owners
zune sucks this is what you get
-
This is just the beginning.
Wghat if...what if all our computers froze...and the hackers took over the world.
[lame ][/lame]
-
I just couldn't believe it so I booted up my Zune and BAM frozen on the bootup screen.
I knew I should have reset the clock :(
WTF IS THIS SHIT MICROCASH I PAID 150$ FOR THIS SHIT AND I WILL BUY AN IPOD TOUCH IF THIS ISN'T FIXED HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO WORK OUT WITHOUT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!????????????
-
ewww an ipod touch is 400 fucking dollars i rather buy a ps3 and strap it to my back jesus fucking christ who in this day and age can afford that shit?
*boots up crysis at ultra settings 80fps*

this is going to be a huge blow against Microsoft, seriously. I can just imagine the mac commercials now.
EDIT: nvm, msft went up .08 pts.
-
since this appears to be a date issue, i wonder if it will magically fix itself at 12:00am tomorrow morning?
still, this is pretty shitty and brings up the fear that anyone can just put dumb shit like this in their firmware. if i was some jerk programmer who hated my boss i could slip in a screen that brings up gay porn on april 1st and nobody would be the wiser.
-
I still stand by my decision to spend £15 on an mp3 player and $100 on headphones.
-
I thought crap like this only happened on sci-fi movies.

I have the touch. It's only the 8GB one, but it was on sale for like $200. I enjoy it.
EDIT: my bad double post wasn't thinking

crumply lives in two countries???
My MP3 was bought from amazon UK whilst my headphones were only available on the US amazon. They were worth getting them shipped over though, very sturdy and the sound is like nothing I have heard on any other set I have owned.
I am incredibly british.
-

EDIT: my bad double post wasn't thinking
I have 60gb of music but in all honesty I listen to maybe 3 albums and I never watch movies or whatever random shit they add to mp3 players to drive up the cost. I liked the Zune because it had a radio tuner (don't know if the touch has that) but I'll probably end up buying the 8gb model simply because 10,000+ songs is ridiculous and I can't imagine anyone actually listening to any of it!
EDIT: Eh... 8gb ipod touch 2nd generation is 229$ and 16gb 1st generation is 219$...
2nd generation has external speakers and you have to download some sort of update to play games on 1st generation...
...do I really need external speakers? Part of me wants to say yes but I'm pretty sure I have more than 8gb worth of music I actively listen to.
Of course, I could just swap out music depending on my mood but I'm such a lazy bastard that I hate going to my computer every time I want to listen to something different...
...
OH MY GOD CHOICES
-
man fuck ipod touch. i never kept the receipt to the zune so my warranty is probably long dead. i'm just going to unscrew the cover, yank out the battery, and reset the damn clock.
-
YOUR THE MAN MARCUS!!!
Plz post story about how you destroyed your Zune afterwards.
I mainly use my iPod touch for browsing facebook / wiki / email when I'm in bed, but I tried some movies on it and I could probably fit 5 or 6 full length movies on it which is great for long drives when I'm just sitting in the back seat wishing I could jerkoff and pass out. The external speakers aren't THAT great, but they're decent for casual listening and I use LastFM and just MAKE MY OWN RADIO! (although this requires active internet connection).
-
i do not have a ZUNE but a long time ago i bought an HP camera that exactly after 2 years (from when it was released) it would boot up and the LCD screen would just show red, green, and blue bars and do absolutely nothing. there was no fix i could find either so it was effectively useless. i looked online and this was a problem everyone had with this model, it was some bizarre issue it had. the warranty expired after a year so that wasn't an option, and HP just said to everyone HEY JUST BUY A NEW HP CAMERA.
it's pretty amazing how such a small thing like the date can cause a problem this big.
-
Well, I just fixed my zune. Ripped off the cover, yanked out the cable, accidentally dropped the battery out (turns out it doesn't even connect to the zune it's SITTING there) and put the thing back together, charging at a wall charger. I won't sync this thing until tomorrow or I'll probably just move all my music from the desktop to laptop and set the time to 2007 or something.
This is still pretty horrendous. Do they sell 30gb models in stores because I'm sure EVERY bestbuy/circuit city/whatever in the world is pissed right now.
EDIT: I also broke the tip off my exacto knife. I expect a 5$ check in the mail from Micro$oft.
-
This is extremely funny. I have a 30 GB and it's bricked, but it's extremely funny how everyone on the zune.net forums are yelling at each other over this. Seriously, how exactly could Microsoft let this happen? Did they not beta test or what?
-
IDK how software companies work but this is one of those random things that would slip any normal person's mind.
Beta Tester: Hey, should we check for major bugs or backdoors for potential viruses?
Beta Tester 2: Naw, how about we run a scan through every potential date from now until December 31 2099?
Beta Tester 1 & 2: HAHA HO HEE HEE HA HA
-
By the way, just take out the battery wait 10 seconds and put it back in.Try setting the time on your computer clock to something random until the issue is resolved.
It's not the death of your zune.
EDIT: Oops didn't read your post Marcus.
But yeah, this whole mess looks pretty bad. I mean I know you can't foresee every error but how in the hell does something like this go unnoticed I wonder.
Also, what makes Zunes so shitty? I was considering buying one but everyone seems to advise me to get an ipod instead. Any particular reason?
-
My parents gave me an ipod touch 8 GB for Christmas, and my sister gave me jack shit despite me getting her something and she spent at least 500$ on her only son....what a crock! Oh well, I guess it's greedy to expect something. Anyhow, Marcus that's a lot of music! I guess the touch is good for me, I only have about 1.3 GB of music.
-
According to Zune Forums this is just a bug in the clock driver in the 30 GB Zune. It will fix itself on January 1st, 2009. They said a patch isn't needed.
Good job Microsoft :rite:.
-
it's got a front pocket on the shirt. you can put your zune in there.
frisky dingo ok

I know nothing about music so I just go to music forums and 4chan and say "recommend me shit here is what I like" and then I download the discographies. I've got like 2 weeks straight of music and I try to listen to an album a day and delete what I don't like.
Also, what makes Zunes so shitty? I was considering buying one but everyone seems to advise me to get an ipod instead. Any particular reason?
I'm sure there's some dorks/fanboys out there who will tell you to buy one over the other but all I care about on an mp3 player is listening to mp3. A 120gb Zune and 120gb ipod classic are the same price but the zune has a built in radio tuner which is nice because I don't have a traditional radio and there's some funny radio shows I like to catch.
I also like Zune's client program thingy better than itunes. Itunes has a waaaaay better store, but Zune automatically loads all of your songs onto your player instead of compressing them into a totally separate file.
-
Why is it that I can run Windows 3.1 nowadays with no problems but the dang ZUNE can't work? That's just terrible.

There's a celestial alignment tonight...it's new years...and those crazy israelites are bombing gaza. And now this.
Another thing. Christ's birth is projected to have been 4 years before 0 BC...making this year...2012.

I think...this is the end of the world.
EDIT: Also, GW6 is up.

well if at 12:01am it is not fixed, bombs get mailed out :fogetshakefist:, I use my Zune at work. I have it packed with music and movies. I have it on random when I am at work, and Watch movies on my breaks. It the only thing that makes my job bearable, because a rotating schedule sucks ass. And graveyard drags on with out it.
I spent money on this thing damn it. I like it better then an IPod, It was cheaper, and the Zune screens are bigger (I watch a lot of movies) Oh well when tax season comes I plan to get the 120gb Zune. This way will never need to delete a video again. I also like the Client software a lot better then Itunes...in fact I just plan hate Itunes. damn programs always trying to cutting in front of WMP when I click on an mp3. lol silly itunes, you think your good enough to be my default player, that's just sad...you believe in yourself...silly pathetic Itunes....sigh :fogetcrazy:
-
On a similar note, my 160GB iPod Classic had it's first birthday like, three days ago, and suddenly isntead of outputting SOUND, it just gives me static. It's not the headphones or the headphone jack thingy, cause it gives me the same thing when I play it in my friends car through the bottom USB-ish thing.
Which is TOTALLY gay.
-
You know, I get annoyed by Macs almost entirely based on the SNOB ATTITUDE I get from mac users but between this and the XBox 360 Red Rings (which I've personally experienced now after only six months of relatively infrequent use), I can safely say I am a little DISILLUSIONED with microsoft. Mistakes happen, but these two instances (especially if this actually bricks the Zune and doesn't fix itself) are a lot of egg to get on one's face.

i have my music on my phone. it doesn't sound great but i'm of the school that as long as i have the option to listen to it, than i enjoy it. i mostly listen in the car or at my computer anyway, and in my car i use cds. my speakers are blown out in my car, but i still have it and THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS.
also my sister just got the 16 gb ipod touch and i called her a stupid-ass consumer whore because she could've spent LESS and gotten 120 gb but she REALLY WANTED THE STUPID GIMMICK.
-
STUPID GIMMICK.
Just like that iPod Shuffle. I don't not at all see that point of that little dinky thing like the shuffle. But I see a lot of people with them. I would loose that so fucking easy. for craps sake its .55oz for crying out loud. Hell it has a notice saying "Do Not Eat iPod Shuffle".
I saw a $20 512mb USB flash drive that also had a headphone jack and a simple audio controls. and it was a USB FLASH DRIVE!!! Capable of all the normal flash drive functions. That was cool...and worth it. but the Shuffle :fogetfingerwag:

Lets see if it works not that is is January 1st
UPDATE!!!!
IT WORKS AGAIN

Yeah man, I went out the other week and bought a 120 gig iPod Classic and my friends were absolutely flabbergasted as to why I'd wasted money on a CLASSIC and not gone for the latest iPod Nano which was $100 more and only 16 gigs! Some of my friends are ridiculously dumb. I mean I wanted an mp3 player with lots of storage and that was the easiest option but when I explained this they were like BUT IT'S UGLY... THE NANO IS SMALL. Heaven forbid they try to convince me to buy a Touch!

I have the touch, and considering my small collection of music, it's great. It's handy to have to check my email and other stuff instead of waiting for my laptop to load up. Also Katamari Damacy on the iPod touch is pretty awesome.
But yeah, if you have gigs and gigs of music, the classics are way more useful than the nano or touch.
-
Until the next time it doesn't like the time and date...
Uh is it UNREASONABLE to suspect Microsoft is going to immediately debug this and release a firmware update?
I mean, it's not a big deal now since this didn't actually BRICK the units. It's just a pretty hilarious bug and a HUGE MISTAKE but one that I'm sure is readily fixable.
-
The word is that it's because of the leap year, so Dec 31 doesn't exist according to the Zune. The articles might have said that, idk I didn't read them.
That said, it's hilarious.
-
Uh is it UNREASONABLE to suspect Microsoft is going to immediately debug this and release a firmware update?
yes
edit: but really this is a SAD bug to have at all, seriously
-
I have just ordered a Zune 30 GB. It was free so what the hell.
-
lmao. i once considered getting a zune, but then i tried the software on my girlfriend's computer and wanted to cut my hands off. The Zune software is such an annoying piece of shit (but so is iTunes)
itunes is decent/good

Why does a music player need to know what the fuck the date is
My NES will work a thousand years for now solely on the basis that it doesn't give a shit whether it's 1990 or 2390
maybe Zunes have developed humanlike apocalypse theories and decide to off themselves on whatever date they've decided is the end of the world
Edit: Even if it's an updating thing why they need an internal clock, doesn't Winamp update on its own (or tell you about updates) and doesn't freak out at certain dates?

How old what the software. the one on the disk is v1.0, and blows, but v3.1 is relatively nice.
1.0

The thing I hate about the Zune software is that it can't play the music off of your device. Or at least in version 2 it can't (for some reason mine won't update to version 3 so I'm stuck with version 2).

Uninstall your software then go here

I was thinking about it and accounting for a leap year is like...the type of thing you'd have in a programming assignment where the teacher doesn't tell you to remember leap years and you're supposed to be clever enough and you get counted off for not remembering it and get like...some bonus points because only two people in the class seemed to remember it.
If you're working for microsoft on a program that will run on a device used by that many people, you should be one of those two people.
-
itunes is decent/good
I seriously beg to differ. I've never used the zune app but itunes is frustrating and slow. I'd avoid it like the plague if I didn't happen to have an ipod, and am thusly a SLAVE to apple. But everything about the interface is slow and clunky and being selective about what music you want on your ipod is counter intuitive and the library system is retarded sometimes.

What OS were you running it on? I've found that on my Mac iTunes runs really well and I really like it, but on any windows machine I've ever used on it it was terrible and unusable. I don't know if it's because of them trying to get you to switch or just bad code but iTunes on a Mac is a LOT nicer, and a p. nice program most of the time.
-
all of the windows versions of mac programs are shit. and basically apple people just say "well why aren't you running it on a mac" which is bullshit because as far as i know, the mac ports of say, office, are competent ports and not slow pieces of shit.

Yeah, I've only tried it on XP and Vista. There's a mac in my house but I never use it (old G4) so I'm not sure.

Yeah it's pretty shit that they do that, I'm just saying that iTunes isn't shit, it's just shit on Windows.

yes why won't microsoft hire me whyyyyy
But what I mean is it's just IRRESPONSIBLE to have a job like that and not get the dang date right in the software, because that's the kind of thing you'd have to do in SCHOOL.

Considering Apple is all about multi-tasking, it's surprising that you can only do ONE thing at a time with iTunes. I hate having to go back and forth between pages to compare applications because it's slow as hell. If they would just set it up like a browser, finding stuff I want would be far simpler.
-

Hell if they were smart enough to get the clock/calender for the Windows os itself to take Leap year into account then its not to unreasonable they should have taken it into account on the Zune.
-

Yeah, it makes it even worse that way.
-

yeah I know I was giving the old people explanation before but yeah if they've got a perfectly good clock already they should have put that thing all up in the Zune (the clock interface/class/MODULE/whatever it's called)
or that should at least be on their Microsoft checklist
-
Yeah, it makes it even worse that way.
Also apparently there was a leap-year condition in the firmware code, it was just written badly.
-
One funny thing is....there us is no "Date" display there is only a Clock. So not only is a buggy program. but it is a pointless unused buggy program.
-
For anyone who's interested in this and has a bit of an understanding of programming, here's the source code for the zune bug apparently:
http://pastie.org/349916
Offending function starts at 249!
-
I understand programming enough to be ABLE to look through that and find the problem but I am really tired and am about to be in a car for 8 hours so, anyone want to tell me what went wrong in it?
-

OH MY GOD CHOICES
my 80GB Zune has 11,000 songs on it (I have over 20,000 on my computer) and I listen to a lot of them but yeah, not all.
-
So I somehow broke the screen on my Zune (I don't even know how this worked I just pulled it out of my coat pocket and suddenly it was CRACKED) so I'm shopping for a new player. I find myself working more often and jonesing to watch movies but I found an alternative to the ipod touch which is 60$ less than the 8gb model. It's the Samsung - P2 8GB MP3 and Video Player.
So far, features it has over iPod touch:
-Supports WMA and WMA DRM files as well as mp3; no stupid fucking AAC shit
-Supports Xvid (fuck yes), AVI, MPEG4, AVC, Divx, WMV
-FM Radio tuner (big plus why doesn't ipod have this??)
-The screen is larger
-Battery lasts longer
The features I'll be giving up are internet (if I'm by a wifi connection I can access I'll be using a laptop, not a mp3 player) and games (I have a DS and PSP for a reason) as well as external speakers.
Since it uses a generic flash drive I can always replace it with something larger but in all honesty if I trim through my 20,000 something songs I could probably find 10 albums I actually listen to then stick a bunch of episodes of Dexter's Lab on it.
EDIT: Really, I'm in it for the screen size and fm tuner. It amazes me that so few mp3 players contain radio tuners and large scerens. I'm sacrificing storage space for a decent screen which is fine with me.
-
who the fuck listens to fm radio.
seriously dude.
OH MY GOSH IM TIRED OF HEARING MY MUSIC SO INSTEAD OF GETTING NEXT TO A WIFI ITS TIME FOR
KATY PERRY I KISSED A GIRL!
-
The only time I did was when I got a record player for my birthday this (well...last now) year that also had a radio in it, so I thought "hey, I never ever listen to the radio, let's see what it is like" and then realized it was nothing but country music and some lady talking about how jesus will help us with the temptations in our life, such as her craving for chocolate covered peanuts.
So yeah why would you want fm radio?
-
who the fuck listens to fm radio.
seriously dude.
OH MY GOSH IM TIRED OF HEARING MY MUSIC SO INSTEAD OF GETTING NEXT TO A WIFI ITS TIME FOR
KATY PERRY I KISSED A GIRL!
there's a little something called public radio steel also
also all the times you might want to listen to the radio for any other reason
-
the car when i cant listen to the ipod because driving with headphones on seems a little distracted? and when i'm not driving i dont listen to the radio anyway.
because other than that zero. unless it's online. in which case duh.
seriously dude do you listen to the radio outside of the car or when your dj buddy says "hey im gonna beont he radio listen in" and even then most are online and the ipod has a wifi so that can load that? i listen to npr podcasts but there's a whole lot of garbage on it too, basically down with traditional radio. its a really dumb feature that would make it slightly more expensive, take up a bit more room and battery life, and I'm surprised marcus thinks apple would ever include it let alone should.
-
if he wants it mazel tov but I'm surprised this is a SELLING POINT to him, as it's not even something on every discman or portable cassette player, let alone a wifi enabled device. it seems really defeating to have a device that can play 1. your music 2. any internet radio 3. pandora/last fm, and then be like BUT DOES IT GET FM SIGNALS???
also just addressing the other things, WMA is a kind of shitty format anyways and doesn't itunes convert them to mp3 if you move it (I don't know as WMA really), videos kill the battery life of any of these anyways so I'm not sure how excited I could be about Xvid or something when XVid is used for longer files anyways, and while both a larger screen and battery life are good, I'm not sure that's negated by, you know, WIRELESS INTERNET (and using that larger screen has to hit the battery life). I spent over four hours in a doctor's office today and I couldn't just listen to music because they kept coming in to ask questions so I logged on the wireless and looked at shit. it was good! I never expected it to be so awesome but it really is a good way to not be bored. it also saves time since you can email, AIM, and if you just jailbreak it even make PHONECALLS with the ipod touch and I've already used it to find places, including said doctor's office directions, so yeah this more than makes up for LACK OF FM TUNER which I can't imagine anyone actually wanting other than WEIRD ASS MARCUS.
also lol if i'm by a wi fi im lugging a laptop! we're at starbucks, good thing i brought my powerbook along.
wifis are fucking EVERYWHERE in any city dude. doesn't every mcdonalds have one now?
I checked because it rang a bell, there's a free public radio app as well.

1. there are good talk show radios, news, and sportscasts that i listen to
2. there's no cable where i work and nothing when i'm on watch (for you non military types this is where we stand around twiddling our thumbs and making sure no terrorists infiltrate our waters and sneak on board the ship because this is what terrorists do)
3. outside of mcdonalds and starbucks i can't think of any place with public wifi and i don't even shop at micky-dee or assbucks. you usually have to pay some ridiculous 20$ fee for 2 hours like at the airport.
4. i jog a lot and when i'm sick of one of my albums i like to listen to the radio while i jog; news and shit where i couldn't ordinarily acquire news because there isn't a satellite signal beaming wifi into my mp3 player.
5. i don't aim, i check my email maybe once a week, i have no one to call except mom so all the extra features for an extra 60$ + 20$ tax isn't worth it.
maybe i'm old fashioned for actually liking public radio but i didn't think there was anyone in the world who didn't tune in to classic jazz or slow rock while driving the car. i can't possibly fathom being on the road for more than 5 minutes without listening to music.

i think it's because most people either have that music on their ipod or, like me, don't get any stations that play anything like that
-
What? What kind of stations do you get? Every American county I've been in gets the basics like smooth jazz, classic rock, generic rap, alternative whatever, and c-c-country.

1. I kind of want to pick this apart but I'll just say NAH there's maybe two hours of good radio on every day and most of it is on NPR's This American Life so your definition of good probably sucks...this is a post.
2. the military has no wireless network? and this only helps confuse the matter because don't you frequently GO AROUND THE WORLD, how would an fm tuner that changes stations when you cross a state line work in IRAQ? wouldn't you end up listening to...persian radio...the worst of all radio?
3. universities, hospitals, airports (diggity's imed from airports and besides why's this a point anyways you'd have your laptop which should provide non internet shit to do anyways if it's a significant trip), houses in almost any suburb, lots of fast food places. there are three wireless networks in my culdesac alone. where do you live man, I couldn't hit a city block in Raleigh without finding a wireless connection.
4. you've got to be kidding. you're getting an MP3 player that you will get bored of when you're jogging. most albums are about an hour long dude you're telling me you're just gonna jog through twenty albums or something and get bored of them and want to listen to some idiot who doesn't know math stammer about baseball players instead?
5. you do use the internet a lot though! all I did at the office was browse GW.
I basically don't understand how you think this is a selling point for anyone. I expect apple will never add one of these dude; they would have done it already if they were going to! lets not forget there are all sorts of third party accessories and a first party accessory for the ipod that does this for the few people that do want it! I just don't get why you're buying a higher end mp3 player like the touch, the zune, or whatever this samsung thing is instead of a walkman or some just mp3 player because you want to watch fucking DEXTER'S LAB for the two episodes the battery life will last.
I just do not get why you would spend hundreds of dollars on a MP3 player and then gripe about the fact you're supposed to play your MP3s on it and not listen to DJ Kobe's JPop Extravagazasama on G105.5. if you're the kind of person who listens to music and gets sick of your albums that you put on there as you're listening to them, maybe spending 200+ dollars on an mp3 player is a bad idea?

Wireless network is a major security stability risk. I live on base where I have wireless internet but that means I'm also in my house on my computer where I have internet radio.

I don't live near any open wireless connection other than my own. Besides, all the universities here have private wireless meaning you have to be a student and they give you a password to access it.

I thought we already established in the trip-hop topic that I'm music illiterate? I buy maybe one album a year and the rest of the stuff I download based on internet recommendations, get bored of it, and then listen to radio or find some other internet recommendations. My current play list consists of
a perfect circle/tool
dream theater
megadeth
gnarls barkley
some old outkast album
aphex twin
the latest album on my zune is st. elsewhere from 2007... every other album is like pre 2003! i don't follow music at all because the music scene changes way too rapidly for me. This is why every time you bring up some metaphor or turn of phrase using a modern musician I scratch my head and go to wikipedia then follow up with a "UR DUMB I HEARD BETTER."
I could have gotten something cheaper as any 50$ walkman has an fm tuner but now I get a tuner, movies, file formats that aren't restricted or compressed or require me to deal with a program i absolutely hate (itunes and microsoft store *shudder*)

the car when i cant listen to the ipod because driving with headphones on seems a little distracted? and when i'm not driving i dont listen to the radio anyway.
because other than that zero. unless it's online. in which case duh.
seriously dude do you listen to the radio outside of the car or when your dj buddy says "hey im gonna beont he radio listen in" and even then most are online and the ipod has a wifi so that can load that? i listen to npr podcasts but there's a whole lot of garbage on it too, basically down with traditional radio. its a really dumb feature that would make it slightly more expensive, take up a bit more room and battery life, and I'm surprised marcus thinks apple would ever include it let alone should.
i have a zune and i listen to the local college radio station all the time at home. i plug it into my tv speakers.

Don't need one. I have this new player now and my phone is an alarm. I also can't take it jogging with me.

Yep. I got bad taste in music and I'm not afraid to admit it. I don't know how you guys keep up with the music scene as I'm only hearing of bands years after they break up. I didn't know who Kurt Kobain was until 2004 and this guy I worked with at a pizza shop slapped me (no exaggeration, literal open palm slap) when I told him what was playing on the radio (smells like teen spirit).

i have a clock radio, but see what i do is.......
it's actually just clever things i did with wires since i'm too poor to buy a receiver and my tv has no speaker-outs, so basically i have everything plug into my computer speakers (with a subwoofer and 4 speakers and full SuRRouND SouND or whatever, they're pretty nice actually) and my tv speakers at the same time. there are female left and right audio cables sticking out the front of my tv stand, along with male audio cables from my zune and playstation and a few other things, and i just choose which wire is plugged into what
it sounds marvelous actually so i play everything through it, not my crummy clock radio.

We'll have like one top 40 station that repeats all day and then the rest are almost all country/gospel/church services
I think we might have a classic rock station but it doesn't come in very well and we don't have any rap stations probably because we hate black people too much to play their music.
