Title: Odd iTunes Problem
Post by: the_hoodie on January 09, 2009, 12:24:10 am
I will start by saying that I absolutely hate iTunes, but am forced to use it because I have an iPod.

Anyways, I like all my albums to have album art associated with them, because it looks nice(r) and I'm weird like that. However, there are certain songs/albums that will not allow album art. It's really annoying to me. I haven't really tried anything because I don't know what to do or what is causing the problem. Google comes up with a bunch of totally unrelated links, so that doesn't help much.

Thus, I am hoping that someone here knows what's happening and how to fix it.

This happens to me, too. I'm pretty sure the reason it does this is because you might of downloaded the song from somewhere like limewire, which doesn't include album artwork; at least i'm sure they almost always don't. The album artwork that appears is dependant on the first song that appears when you click the artist's name. Click on the artist, go to the first song and right click then go to info. The last tab says "artwork", then click that then "add". You don't have to do this if you have just one song by the artist. However, if you are on the "album" tab, just right click on the album and go to "get info" and go to the last tab.

Or did you mean that when you try to add artwork, that you get a message that says you can't? If that's the case, then i'm not sure.

I have this problem all the time, and as luck would have it, I know how to fix it!

You'll need to grab foobar2000, and then drag the problematic files into the foobar window. Then select them all, right click them, go under Utilities, and do both "Fix VBR Header" and "Rebuild MP3 Stream". This gets rid of any excess crap that might have been stuck onto the file by other programs and just leaves the stuff that's supposed to be there. Re-import the fixed files into iTunes, and you should then be able to add album art to the files.

Hope this helps.

This has happened to me too and for 99% of cases it has a much easier solution: make sure your mp3s aren't read only.

it isnt. ipod management software works by modifying the itunesdb file on your ipods hard drive and copying the file over. the worst that can happen is your ipod database fucks up which is an easy fix.
