Concerning the Cartoon Network programming starting at 10 pm (central)...
What do you think of it? What is you favorite show and what do you wish they would still show?
With Aquateen, I imagined they had become as trippy and insane as possible, but Superjail and Metalocalypse has proven otherwise. Assy Mcgee has probably brought the most laughs of all the shows for me, but there are only about 6 episodes. Boondocks is goddamn clever as well, but I rarely see episodes aired anymore.
I really do miss the nights filled with Cowboy Bebop and rare Gundam series, though. (08th MS Team, anyone?)
oh yeah, and space ghost, not sure if that was adult swim, but played out at the same time of night.
-
Venture Brothers. Best Adult Swim show ever conceived. Ever.
-
Apparently Mike Lazzo doesn't believe in anything with actual development and cancels/doesn't fund all of the best shows. Moral Orel and Korgoth of Barbaria come to mind and it doesn't look like Superjail! will get another season.
I still can't believe he canceled Moral Orel for being "too dark" and yet Robot Chicken gets away with every skit being about rape.

I'm guessing it probably has something to do with developing characters rather than random people that you can't really connect or contrast with. It also presented some of the themes and material in such a way that tries to convince the viewers into having some sort of empathy for the characters. So it's probably 'dark' on a psychological level rather than the surface.
I know I was watching the hunting episode with the drunkish father and I just couldn't help but think that it was really fucked up. But, whatever.
-
I completely agree Marcus.
Inuyasha has been on since before I was in highschool, so like 8 years? And yet we have gems like Stroker and Hoop that only last a season.
-
and it doesn't look like Superjail! will get another season.
Moral Orel ended well imo. But ending Superjail as is is a fucking crime.
-

Yeah, there's really no excuse for that one.
At all.
Actually, there is and it involves money. The problem is, if not enough people are watching a show then nobody wants to buy ads on that time slot and revenue for television channels is based on ads. It's pretty much bullshit yeah, but cartoon network has to cover their ass. You already knew that probably, but just had to remind you.
-
If everyone hasn't already seen it, watch Frisky Dingo season 2. It is absolutely brilliant. Some of the best writing/voice acting of any animated show ever.
-

I dunno if it is anymore, but Inuyasha was on at 5am. I really don't think it was raking money in, since it was all reruns, and being on that late/early.
From what I understand though, Williams St. does interact with the members on the their forums and stuff, so they're pretty in tune with what their viewers like.
-
King of the Hill being on there is p. great, but I just don't enjoy most of the Adult Swim stuff. I liked the older Adult Swim stuff, like Space Ghost, Brak, Home Movies, etc., but the stuff on now doesn't appeal to me.
-
They should renew Home Movies. But no.... the creator would rather go on tour playing mock Death Metal.
-
Adult Swim is still a pretty high grossing channel. I read a statistic saying that in the 6 or so hours that it's own (half that time being a repeat of the previous time slot) they often match Comedy Central's ratings for the entire day and that's its own network!
-

Home Movies is great. I swear I heard the soccer coach dude voice acting on ATHF last night.
-
Am I the only one who thinks that ATHF is completely terrible? :(
-
I only watched adult swim like once. it had metalocaplsi, futurama, athf, some stupid thing with a slime, and I forget what else. metalopolyps and futurama were the only ones that weren't really bad. someone said that athf USED TO BE GOOD/is hit or miss so idk. it's probably just lmao talking meatball XD tho
wasn't tom and eric on AS? yea a lot of people here really like t&e.
-
Am I the only one who thinks that ATHF is completely terrible? :(
I think having that calibur voice acting on top of such convoluted non-sequitur concepts and forcing limited, stock animation on it is a crime.
It's completely terrible that people might praise the show because they assume it's "supposed" to be animated completely shitty, and conciders it a good direction for them to go! Especially when what you are looking at constantly screams imaginative visual ideas at you and none of them get to be fufilled because it's all tweened in something that's probably flash.
It's more fun to watch that show with my eyes closed, but that might be just me.
-
Am I the only one who thinks that ATHF is completely terrible? :(
No. Worst show on Adult Swim.
Morel Orel was just getting really, really good too. Superjail is getting pretty good also. As long as they keep Tim and Eric I guess i'll be ok.
-
the only shows i knew that were on this were athf, home videos, the ventures and sealab. all of tehse are okay at best, imo.
i looked it up and realized robot chicken and look around you are on it (nice).
also, the oblongs are on there?? that's awesome, how come no one mentioned that show, yet??
-
Am I the only one who thinks that ATHF is completely terrible? :(
It's hit or miss for me. The first season IS completely terrible, though.
What appeals to me are certain "guest" characters, like Handbanana ("Tonight....You.....") and the Fruit Friends episode ("GET. THE LIQUOR. FASTER." "THERE'S A DEMON INSIDE OF ME!")
-

I love what I've seen from ATHF. Their guest characters pretty much make the show for me, though.
And yes I miss home movies too. Preferably the first season [mainly ][/mainly].
And I don't know why but I always catch myself watching Inyasha. I mean, I don't like the show, nor do I dislike it...But I'm always watching it.
-
ATHF, Metalacolypse or whatever its called, squidbillies, and superjail are quite funny
-
I stopped watching it with the sole exception of the Venture Brothers once you had to be stoned to enjoy the vast majority of the content. Seth MacFarlane is killing mainstream American animation.
-
I dont watch AS as much now due to it being reruns but I love ATHF for its random humor and characters, was never fond of robot chicken i usually avoid that all together but it sucks to see good shows gone like stroker and hoop which i loved but I believe the real reason for moral oral has to do with its religious subject matter than anything else.
-
I renewed my interest when they started showing Shin Chan (FUNNY!) but I havent been able to watch for a bout a year now.
-
i don't get it. what is so great about venture brothers? that show is shit. also all of the characters are repulsive. i want to puke from watching that show.
-
becausebrock is a hunk
don't you like hunks, lady with the painful username/?
-
The first season of venture bros, when it still had all of it's parodies in tact, was amazing. Nowadays they are creating these complex backstories for minor characters and it's hit or miss.
Yea though, back when Brock Sampson took like 30+ stun darts in him and being hit by a truck to knock him down, and still managed to grab a guy the neck and not let go, just the unnecessary level of violence was pretty hilarious.

this is hunk?
-
xavier renegade angel is the best show
that, and tim & eric
-
Am I the only one who thinks that ATHF is completely terrible? :(
i think it's designed for really high people specifically because that's the only time i have ever enjoyed it
-
Home Movies is great. I swear I heard the soccer coach dude voice acting on ATHF last night.
if it was the episode with the mothmanmonster or whatever then yeah it was him
-
He was also in the beginning of the movie.
-
lots of opinions and stuff: (after looking through a list of original Adult Swim shows)
I watched my first Superjail! episode not that long ago (I don't watch Cable much any more, mostly just online stuff) and that show has got to be the most creepy messed of cartoon show I have ever watched. I watched the episode where a child cancer patient showed up at the "superjail"
I'd have to watch more it to determine if I like it.
Morel Orel was excellent, to bad they are ending it.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force is all about random crazy shit happening, the first season was good, second season was excellent, third season was decent, and forth was kind meh, fifth had really terrible episodes and then some hilarious ones, six is ok. I own 1-6 season DVDs of ATHF. but yeah ATHF is starting to decline a bit IMHO, but its not a bad show.
The Boondocks is awesome, I've only seen season 1 thus far, I need to get around to watching season 2.
Metalocalypse is good, not one of my favorites, but a good show.
Robot Chicken is also good, not more to say about it though.
Squidbillies as well as Tim and Eric is hit or miss.
The Venture Bros. is hilarious and Brock is ridiculously awesome.
Frisky Dingo is one of my favorites.
Assy McGee is absolutely RETARDED and I haven't laughed ONCE or even so much as grinned.
The Brak Show had some decent moments, but it's jokes got pretty redundant quickly.
I'm surprised how no one has mentioned Harvey Birdman or Sealab 2021 they were pretty consistently funny.
Home Movies is mediocre. I did laugh, just not a lot.
Perfect Hair Forever is also a winner.
I didn't think Tom Goes to the Mayor was as awful as everyone thought they were, they weren't great, but they weren't bad.
Korgoth should have continued on, but what are you going to do.
Everything I haven't mentioned I haven't watched at all or never even heard of. (among Adult Swim originals)
-
Besides Venture Bros and Robot Chicken, I pretty much can't stand these adult cartoons. They're usually made to look like trash on purpose, almost like they're trying to under-do South Park's animation quality. They're littered with idiotic jokes that usually end with it supposing to be funny with awkward silences, and yeah, these shows are just freaking terrible. Moral Oral almost had me, until I relialised it's basically the same joke. Has its moments at least. Usually involving the mom or dad.
Anyway, these shows are crap.
-

Dude, Assy is one of my absolute favorite shows ever, but I only know about one other person that shares that sentiment. I find the cop-show parody material pretty hilarious.

*tardis lands*
hmm here we are earth, 2009. humanity hasnt yet taken to the stars but still pivotal as this was the year the US elected the first female president and Israel was finally dissipated as a state.
*picks up GW topic*

something's not right here...*opens tardis, it's turned into wooden box! camera zooms in on panic* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roACxMr4kBk)

sorry, brit. venture bros is not that funny, and assy kicks ass(Y??). and obama is a male (i think?).
-
oblongs? oblongs?? anyone? ...guys? ...oblongs?
-
i like oblongs but i haven't watched it inf orever.
-

The best thing Will Ferrel has ever done (or will ever do) in his lifetime.
-

i don't think you get it.
also I really liked oblongs, but it's been a while I last saw an episode.

For some reason I always turn it on just in time to catch Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job and that other shit about the guy going to the mayor. It's incredibly disappointing.
SuperJail is the shit, though, and I'd hate to see it canceled. I've also only ever seen one episode of Venture Brothers but I was immensely satisfied as throughout the entire episode Brock was running around COMPLETELY NAKED and covered in blood as he ripped people apart with his bare hands.
-
They are running Tom goes to the Mayor again now, and it kicks ass. I'm seeing a lot of funny shit that I didn't see before.
-
that renegade angel show is stupid as hell I do not get how anyone can sit there and watch that shit.
I get MIND FUCK stuff like superjail but superjail is actually entertaining and I literally can't sit through an episode of snake hand dude.
-
Venture bros and Harvey Birdman are some of my favorite animated shows. Harvey birdman was just silly characters and absurd humor but had such great timing with it, I remember gasping for air in a few episodes. It had some pretty decent voice acting too.
I also like Metalocalypse, Tim & Eric and Robot chicken, but Aqua teen hunger force just has very sparse funny bits in an otherwise pretty boring show. I just remember a few episodes that were consistantly funny.
-

tom goes is a little crappy sometimes bit T'n'E is great and you're just a dummy
-
How the hell did I forget Harvey birdman?!?
Definitely one of my fave cartoons.
-
Man I think Tom Goes to the Mayor really has its moments. I just think that Eric's voice acting is perfect and does a great job of making the Mayor seem self absorbed and condescending. I think Joy is a pretty lame character (OH I GET IT SHE'S FAT) but she's a good foil or whatever for Tom so yeah I like Tom Goes to the Mayor.
-
They've all got their moments... just the majority are lame. Even Venture Brothers has reallllly bad downtime, or too stupid/gross to be funny moments. Same for Harvey Birdman. I dunno. This whole crop of cartoons annoys my cartoonist streak.
-
tom goes to the mayor has some really good episodes like the one with michael cera, that ep goes in with my top t&e eps alongside jim and derrick and jazz. also I like joy because she's played by Michael Q. Schmidt, but yeah she's pretty much just part of the show for tom's character
-
Honestly I don't remember any dead moment in Harvey Birdman, I remember loving the show exactly because of that, it was really consistently funny, not a dead moment.
I don't remember any particularly weak moment in Venture Bros either, though not always funny, its never boring like say ATHF can be(and usually is).
I remember liking the few Frisky Dingo episodes I watched, but not enough to make me want to watch the rest though.
-

Give it another shot. It's brilliant.
-
Frisky Dingo is really funny, except that I can never remember when it's on, or I'm working. Guess I could always Internet it.
