Halo has been one of the most revered titles on Microsoft's game consoles and computers that sold thousands. The question is though, which one is your favorite? I prefer Halo 2 personally because the community has less little children, actual clans, more and better maps, and fucking blood gulch(coagulation in halo 2). Halo 1 was a good start but the PC servers were shit and Halo 3 was a decent conclusion but the campaign was too short, the multiplayer is FLOODED with annoying children and douche bags(not that halo 2 does not have those kind of people every now and then, and I am not saying any of you who play halo are douche bags just many who I encountered on matchmaking) and most of the weapons were better(Battle Rifle and SMG mainly).
NOTE: I will edit this post when Halo Wars comes out, which is why you can switch your decision and you think halo wars is better than all the above....

I felt the series got worse and worse as it progressed, so I have to say Halo 1. 3 is out of the question, and 2 was alright; but 1 was definitely my fave experience. Not to be oldschool about it though.

Halo 1 was ok. Not a novelty by any means, but an ok game. Some parts were fun, including the incredibly epic finale (the car ride), but really, halo 2 and halo 3 feel extra bland. Sure, they have snazzy multiplayer, but it's nothing super or overly interesting, and I found it gets boring fast. And Halo 2 and 3's singleplayer modes suck balls.

I like the one where Master Chief goes around killing aliens and the little computer lady talks to him. The one with the vehicles.

Halo 3 had the best single player mode (how sad is that).
But I had a lot of fun playing Halo 2 with friends. Good times.

Halo was the best, but that level in Halo 3 where you run the Covenant's motorcycle off the jump and into the cockpit of the Scarab walker was basically the best part of the series.

Anyway I've never really understood why people hate on Halo, it's really a pretty great game as far as FPSs go.

Halo 3 is probably the one I've played the most since it's the first one I've owned, but they are all good first person shooters. I never understand the gripes about Halo 3 beyond that, yeah, I guess the campaign was pretty short, but I also found it really fun, especially in co-op, and it's got some of the best (and most played) multiplayer available. I imagine it was also hyped all to shit too, which probably made for some seriously inflated expectations.

i know there are a bunch of fps guys that can list technical reason why halo sucks, and i don't want to be that guy that comes in and says halo sucks for whatever reason, but honestly i never had any fun playing halo, for whatever reasons there may be. im not a hardcore fps player that is going to say why halo sucks because of aimer size or whatever, but i had so much more fun playing perfect dark, but i guess i am uniformed so...probably shouldn't listen to me

Yeah, the only reason I've ever played halo (2) is for its multiplayer, and I suppose it does that fairly well. It's nice to play 8-player over 2 xboxes with some friends.

Halo 1 was neat. I played it on the PC, and it was a fun experience. The story was pretty crappy though, and I did not give a single shit about Master Chief because he had absolutely no personality. I never played the multiplayer because I fucking hate online gamers.
Halo 2 was atrocious. Everything from Halo 1 within the game somehow felt weaker, and the story was just shitty. The fact that this game ended with a cliffhanger, like Matrix Reloaded and Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, made me very pissed off. Again, I also never played the multiplayer in this game.
I don't have an Xbox 360, so I never played Halo 3.
So, the first one was the best. It was a neat game, and I enjoyed flying the ships around, but it was a forgettable experience overall.
The multiplayer alone should make Halo a shitty series though. Sure, it's probably a lot of fun, but holy crap the players are annoying.

I play these games just for the multiplayer, and I always had the most fun with Halo 2. Halo 1 brings a lot of nostalgia, but the game always seemed so unbalanced (scoped pistol, anyone?). Halo 2 brought on the dual-wield along with all the best maps (new ones plus the nice renditions of Halo 1 maps). I was just never comfortable with Halo 3.

I played them all co-op mostly.
I liked the 3rd on co-op the most, but that might just be because i haven't played the other ones in a while.

Oh yeah, Perfect Dark was freaking awesome. I miss my huge body, tiny headed Vengebot!
Also: Ever since Call of Duty 4 all previous FPS games pale in comparison. Halo just feels like Quake now. Even the controls that were at one time absolutely perfect, feel like obstructive leather gloves when compared to CoD.

Halo 1 was bullshit. The only time I played it was at a highschool LAN party, I killed a guy by hitting him with the flag and the only thing the little ticker in the corner said was "trash butt killed jules_the_anime_barb3r", without any mention of it being a FLAG KILL, or even a melee kill. Can you even believe that shit?? It's like, I may as well have just shot the guy with my gun like a fucking jobber.
I'm not gonna run around killing people with flags unless I can properly wave my e-dick around about it!

just before I played first played Halo, I'll be honest, I didn't know a thing about it, before the Xmas of 01 I had not followed a thing about the Xbox, but my dad liked the Xbox more mainly because it was superior hardware-wise. He heard that Halo was a good game so he bought it with the console (along with a few other less desirable games). So even though the PS2 was what I wanted and asked for, I got a Xbox. Initially I was annoyed, and then I played Halo and forgot about GTA completely (to be reminded of it again when Vice City rolled around for Xbox).
I like playing Halo to this day, both because of nostalgia AND that I still think the Gameplay holds up to today's games extremely well.
While I realize the first Halo was hyped, I was never exposed to that hype.
When Halo 2 came out I was insanely excited, once I beat it once there was little for me to do because I didn't have a credit/debit card to pay for Xbox live. and overall, I think I liked Halo 1 more because I played Halo 20 times more than I ever did Halo 2, and when Halo PC came out I literally spent the entirety of a summer vacation playing the PC version online. I just thought that (and I know this sounds stupid) that halo 2 didn't feel like it had Halo gameplay to me.
Good and bad thing: Halo 2 from what I could tell brought a significantly large portion of new players.
Halo 3 came out, and I was MUCH less excited about it then I was about Halo 2. That didn't stop me from some participation in the Beta and getting it on its opening day. When I played its campaign I felt it was WAY too easy/short, I beat the campaign on heroic alone in 6-7 hours on my first try. The core gameplay, however, was much more like the original halo's gameplay with the art style of Halo 2. So I played it a lot. The only true negative thing I have to say, other than that it had a short campaign, is that its multiplayer map design was extremely generic. If you looked at the maps closely they all seemed to have the same formula with a different theme and backdrop. This is actually how I felt about Quake 3 arena and unreal tournament games, all their maps had the same formula.
I'd go into even more analysis, but it probably wouldn't be read.

I prefer UT2k4 myself. Some of the game modes are fun as hell, and it has some really superb mods.
I liked the first Halo until I started playing UT2k4 and realized it was just far more fun to me.

I find Halo 1 the best because it's the only one I've played through to completion, Halo 2 I've playd part way through, but not more 'cause I don't own it, and Halo 3 I've never played.
But TBH I'd rather play some Doom 3 or Half Life, not that Halo's bad, it's just not as fun as those two. Give me a Revenant over an elite anyday, just aslong as I get a plasma rifle!

The original Halo was an amazing game for it's time and I've heard people flame it then praise the third game. I don't understand internet politics very well but I'm pretty sure you don't attack your roots.
The other two games, 2 and 3, were pretty much ruined for me completely. Why? Well my brother had this CRAZY IDEA. He asked if he could take about fifty bucks from my hard earned money so we could go do some "AWESOME" tournament. So we took our x-box and halo2 over to some guys house, moved down to a basement that smelled cat urine and well... PLAYED HALO 2. For twelve fucking hours. Half way through he used my fifty bucks to buy loads of mountain dew livewire. Now, I have no quarrels with plain mountain dew but livewire was mountain dew with more goat piss.
I fucking HATE Halo 2.

I would have to say I enjoyed Halo 2 the most. Like I thought Halo 1 had the best single player experience, but that was only fun for so long. Halo 3 had pretty good multiplayer, but I really didn't like any of the maps and I just liked the mechanics of the weapons in Halo 2 better. But what really made Halo 2 great for me was the multiplayer. I remember when I got Xbox live about a month after Halo 2 came out and got on it was just nonstop fun for the next 9 months. That was literally all I played, Halo 2 online.
Me and my friends would get on literally everyday and play for hours. I have so many memories playing with my friend Ted and just screwing around with people online. Another thing I loved was all the younger kids who used to be on that would just act retarded. They made my playing experiencing a lot more enjoyable. But yeah, I'd have to say Halo 2 is definitely my favorite

CE. I still play it on PC now and again when im bored and have some minutes to kill. I'd say it got worse as it progressed as well....well not exactly because I liked Halo 3 more than Halo 2 but they both still suck.

^this pretty much. I had fun with the campaign and the multiplayer was alright fun, but nothing really new. Tried 2/3 on an xbox and just couldn't get any fun out of them at all, even on coop.

Point, but it is not a bad game though. I thought the fact that the graphics didn't pop in as much was nice and you can play the game while it is installing(but expect flickering and pop in up the asshole, its DEFINITELY not perfect)

I liked the first halo, it was a very unique gaming experience. It's just too bad they didn't change it at all for 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, you need vista but there are many ways to crack that if you have XP though.
