HEY I was just thinking about this the other day and esiann mentioned it in a topic today, so I thought I would help RESURFACE THIS IDEA
For those of you who missed the original topic, here it is (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=6777.0) if you want to maybe glance over who lives where, what the propositions were, etc.
Alright, so basically I need input:
Who is interested in attending a GW meet in the Northeast sometime in the next few months (March/April?)
What would be the best central location to allow as many (cool) people as possible to come?
When would be the best time period to do this?
Is a concert/show the central event that we should organize this around? Would you rather meet at someone's house?
I think a lot of people agreed that NYC would be the best place to hold this, since it might allow a bunch of non-Northeasterners to take part. Personally, I would prefer Boston but that is because I live in MA so heh. Boston is cool, but it would hold back a lot of people. Also, there's a shitload of things to do in NYC and some of you have yet to visit it, so this would be a MOTIVATION to come to GW meet.
If enough people are still interested, and the concert thing is still OK with everyone, I will start looking for some shows.
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK (meets ar egay)
-
NYC gets my vote because I live within like 30 minutes of nyc by bus. It is great and yes there are tons of things to do and it is really easy and relatively cheap to get around.
A show would be a good idea but I'm not really sure what's coming up in April. Start lookin for a show
meets ar egay

i could maybe do NYC, but someplace like DC or Baltimore or even Philly would be better imo. they're more CENTRAL EAST COAST. it all depends though
-
I'd go, but I'm already headed to NYC June 29th-July 6th. Gonna catch a Yankees game and celebrate my birthday. If you guys need any recommendations for places to eat or things to do though, let me know.
-
let's do baseball Im serious we can get crummy outfield tickets probably for the mets (the Yankees got a new stadium I dunno how cheap that would be) but uh really I'm not willing to take time off from school so I'd probably only make it out there if it was over my spring break, and I'd have to be cheap. so yea maybe depends what you guys settle on!
Also DC sounds the coolest
Also Mar 14-22 is my break just lettin you know
-
maybe well see barack obama..
-
fuck you guys if you go to DC and I'm still at school. I'm serious.
edit: JUST KIDDING if for some reason you do DC make sure it's a weekend and I will definitely come. Also I can do Philly. NYC is a little more iffy but if I can make it that would also be cool.
-
I'm coming to NYC, but not until September so I guess I'm out. It's also a business trip so I don't know if I'd have time to do anything recreational anyway.
-
philly meet at earl's or roman's place
i would not even mind going to philly a bit
-
fuck not being in pittsburgh anymore
-
now I want to go to this one too because all the badasses are going to this one
I won't be able to make march, I probably wouldn't be able to make april either but may would be good. I don't know when they hold the canadian meet but if maybe we make that one july/august and this one may/june it would be attainable.
I'm not really worried about it though and I'll make any one of em that I can.
-
I actually really wanted to go to the last one and could have made it but everbody pussed
-
I live right outside of Philly, so that gets my vote. Depending one the "activities", I would go to NYC, or DC.
-
Lets go to philly and eat cheesesteaks and water ice :D
people attending:
sarevok
-
wait do you eat or drink water ice
-
NY Comic Con is tomorrow!
Yeah, I'm up for NYC since I live an hour from there by train.

ahahaha
also fuck gw meets
-
i agree lets hold it at h-phonics's house
-
I'm willing to go to philly, but I need a buddy to meet up with me at the NJ Trenton station and go on the amtrak with me
-
look brotha how u gonna hav that kinda attitude
-
Count me in next time around. I'll be working a lot of overtime for the next few months. A lot of plans for later this year... need to save up.
-

i live right outside of philly too, and it'd be pretty cool to chill with you all. i'm only 17 though. :hmm:
-
I just found out that a Chinatown bus from Boston to NYC is only $30 round trip. That's so cheap!! $20 more if I go to Philly.
welp, I'm gonna add a poll of options. philly sounds like it will win, but WHO KNOWS. You can vote for up to 2.
-
by the way my house probably wouldn't be a good idea because I don't know how my roommates would feel about various internet strangers staying at our place, and if you did and don't smoke weed you would probably feel pretty out of place (blaze 420 everyday). if for some reason my roommates are gone when we have the meeting (and if it's in philly) then I'd be down but otherwise probably not gonna happen.
edit: also even though I voted for DC and Philly I would also possibly be down for NYC so keep that in mind I guess.
-
im absolutely serious that if anyone would be uncomfortable with people smoking weed they should not show up.
if you did this i'd be more down for dc.
-
U could ride with me. my grandma is moving to fayetteville soon so ill prolly be down there often over the next few months.
-
BoltBus goes around MA, PA, and NY for ~$20. I say Philly because I am here, but New York City is pretty cool (and expensive). And yes , NY Comic Con IS today/tomorrow! I'm going to be there; is anyone else going?

I'm going to be there tomorrow and sunday.

Yanks tickets run between $12-$20 for the cheapest seats.
-
If we meet in DC during the week of March 9, I should be down. Steel would also probably be down.
This is of course assuming that this even happens!
-
whoa whoa I might be doing chemo then, I said I could POTENTIALLY be down and it also depends on who's going because I hate y'all.
-
make it that weekend after, the 14th *_*
-
if its in march I prolly can't make this one but yeah did you guys even find a HOST yet?
because that was the problem with the last one no one was willing to host it and ppl were just like "fuckit".
-
You guys want to stay over at my place?
I'm in the middle of Jersey.
EDIT:
NEVERMIND HORRIBLE IDEA
-
you can meet at my place but you have to find somewhere else to stay.
-
Very hospitable earl ¬¬
-
sometime this semester i am going to go to philadelphia so if you have it there then i am coming!
-
ill be in nyc around april
-
Somebody has to fucking plan this or nothing will be done.
-
the reason i have been trying to center this around a concert is so that there doesn't have to be a "host" or someone's house to stay at. i mean yeah, if you want an OVERNIGHT or WEEKEND gw-meet you will need a host but i dont think i want to spend a couple of days with gw's (unless they are the best dudes..but thats iffy)
hanging out with some gw's for a day and walking around a big city and going to a decent concert would be cool imo
-
i don't know if i even want to do this, but philadelphia and boston are both very boring cities so it's either dc or new york.
-
i've only been to philly once and it was with my parents to visit independence hall and the liberty (i will also add that the only reason we stopped here is because we were coming back from some famous POLISH CATHOLIC OUR LADY OF ******* SHRINE in central pennsylvania and our dad decided we might as well stop by philly for a couple of hours)
jesus the liberty bell is so goddamn small
-
yep. boston's boring. is there anything to DO there??  â€‹
-
in comparison to larger cities, boston is pretty boring, i'm sure. I've never lived near a larger city than Boston, though, so I can't compare. New York is pretty HAPPENING but I would kill myself before I tried living there.
Boston has a pretty good music scene i think (nothing like SEATTLE, i would imagine) - lots of small little venues. I haven't gone to too many shows but I really like going to shows at tiny clubs.
as a college city, I like Boston a lot because it is not too big and not too small, but I know there is are much more interesting cities to visit. I don't even go to school IN BOSTON - despite my school's name, I am actually like a 40 min subway ride away from downtown - but it is a cool place.
-
philly is probably the only major US city tony bourdain hasn't visited and he never will.
there really is a lot to do within walking distance of center city tho
-
i used to love walking around boston. places like this make me happy:

ahaha i just found the photos of me and marmot in boston. they are pretty boring because iirc we had like two-three hours to walk around so we didn't visit much but

nah boston is actually a really cool city relative to other ones! i was making fun of chef because boston is INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN and past a certain scale it becomes difficult to differentiate between cities, i think. new york is more interesting imo but cities like bostom or chicago are hardly BORING, even compared to larger ones.
-
just out of curiousity, do you only mean "internationally known" in HISTORICAL TERMS or something else? I think anyone who is remotely interested in US history would appreciate Boston for American Revolution + immigration stuff, but other than that I don't really know why it would internatially known. oh, Harvard maybe...
FUN FACT
"The Boston University Bridge on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston is the only place in the world where a boat can sail under a train driving under a car driving under an airplane. "
-
yeah the north end is pretty cool
i like boston because there is a lot of shit to do and it's not as intimidating to me as other cities like new york
-
btw if this is going to just be a one day thing there's no way in hell i'm driving 10 hours to NYC then 10 more back home! the 4 hours to DC is a stretch, but i sure as hell won't go to boston or philly if it's just one day.
-
it doesnt necessarily have to be just a day, i mean some ppl could stay there. i am gonna be in nyc because................ commie .politics lol so i dont think i can stay with you guys that much. besides these ppl paid for my lodging and air faire so i cant just bail out from them buds
-
why did drule vote?
-
okay so i am planning on visiting filly mar 16-22 so anyone who wants to meet the legendary ambientbird... u know what 2 do
-
Dada!!!
-
if its boston or ny I can do it otherwise gas.
