Title: S. Darko
Post by: xanque on February 08, 2009, 12:05:08 am
Apparently there is going to be a sequel to Donnie Darko.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1231277/

The movie follows Samantha, Donnie's little sister.  I'd post the trailer, but all it shows are clips from the first movie and it's not really worth watching.

Quote
S. Darko takes place in the summer of 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko's younger sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase), who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance. She and her best friend Corey (Evigan) set off on a road trip to Hollywood in a bid to 'make it big', but their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in a small desert town. When a meteorite happens to crash-land nearby, Samantha is plagued by bizarre visions telling of the universe's end and it appears that their breakdown was part of some grander plan. When she finds out she was actually adopted by the Darkos, and that she is in no way related to Donnie, she must face her own demons and, in doing so, save the world and herself.

It's going to be a direct-to-DVD release, so it's not sounding very promising.

I'm kind of surprised there would be a sequel to Donnie Darko.  I loved the movie when I saw it the first few times, but that was when I was 17.  The last time I watched it was about a month ago and it was... dumb.  It's really an incoherent mess of a movie, and it's no wonder Southland Tales was so awful.

Is Richard Kelly doomed to never have a wide theater release of his movies?

I think there was already a topic on this. I'm too lazy to search for it though.

And yeah, it looks like shit.

p.s. Richard Kelly isn't making this

Ah, didn't catch that when I was looking at IMDB.  I just assumed he had something to do with the movie.  It doesn't look like he does.

I think this will blow.

S. Darko sounds like a JRPG boss where they had to concatenate the name to fit into English letters/memory constraints

Kelly sold the rights to a sequel away in order to score the last hundred large he needed for printing Southland Tales. It will be ridiculously bad, even among other direct to dvd titles.

Ugh.

I hope Seth Rogen is in it.

Southland Tales seemed like it would have been a great movie if it were rearranged and some scenes cut out.  It was trying to cover so much in such a short time that nothing in it really meant anything.

Also if it had been a straight up action movie musical, it would have been awesome.

Trailer is out.

I'm surprised, this looks way better than I expected, more so than Butterfly Effect 2 and American Psycho 2. I'm not saying this will be good, but rather that it looks like they're putting a shitload of effort into making it look like the original.

I'll give this a chance just for fun.

I did not expect anything better than an episode of smallville and remain pleasantly unsurprised.

I always compared donnie darko to The OC but now people are telling me I look like someone from it so I've been looking for a replacement teen series to call it. Thanks.

I watched Donnie Darko for the first time a week ago and it was a decent movie. Not really GOOD or anything but it was pretty interesting.

It looks like they're trying to take the same concept from the first movie and turn it into an actual supernatural story or some shit. But that might just be hallucinations or whatever like Donnie had, doesn't seem that way though.

This makes an episode of Smallville look like an oscar nominee. When the trailer started and they had some of the visuals from the old it almost looked similar, but that went away quickly. Here's to hoping they throw all subtlety out the window and just bombard you with Jesus the whole movie.

I loled when I saw that they have used another Frank-like character at the end
