Title: Recommend some documentaries!
Post by: Rowain on February 09, 2009, 12:04:59 am
I recently watched Jesus Camp (for the second time actually... not sure why!) and Religulous, and I enjoyed both. Religulous was just an hour and a half of Bill Mahr preaching to the choir but it was still mostly entertaining, at least for the first hour, because he interviewed some real nutjobs. Jesus Camp is just creepy but very compelling.

I'd like to watch some docs pertaining to fundamentalist Christians specifically, either BY them or just about them. I watched Ben Stein's intelligent design bullshit "Expelled" awhile back, and even that interests me just to see what THE OTHER SIDE says.

Just don't recommend any Michael Moore shit, I've seen them and I don't really like the guy, though he makes an entertaining movie.

A few other "quasi" documentaries that I have on hand that I've enjoyed:

-Nazi Pop Twins, an hour long special about the WHITE PRIDE folk music duo Prussian Blue. The film maker just followed them for a year in their life I think, it's pretty neat.
-Scientology and Me, a silly episode of a BBC television show that investigates scientology. Really makes them out to be assholes and creeps, it's hilarious.

Anyone recommend me some docs??????

I watched this piece of shit thing called The Case for Faith.  It was about why Christianity is right and FUCKING AWESOME.

It's by Lee Strobel, who really couldn't be more of a douche bag.

The "documentary" revolves around this guy who was super religious, but then converted to atheism or something.  They had interviews with him, but then it's revealed that they aren't actually the interviews that happened, but "reenactments" of the interview.  The stuff the guy says are just so unbelievably stupid, and playing the straw man argument for atheism.

It should be renamed "The Case for Christianity... if you already have faith in the existence of god and jesus."

I'd recommend you watch a docu called "For the Bible Tells Me So" which is basically about religion and homosexuality and all. You'd most likely like it.

Also I recommend "Bigger Faster Stronger" which is about steroid usage.

my cousin blindly cites this "documentary" a lot in day to day life. it gets old. he needs to do some fact checking.

that link's just as bad as zeitgeist man. there are a lot of christ parallels in history and there's no evidence christ existed and they cite doctors for some of the refutations and just PEOPLE for the others.

edit: just noticed its a christian apologism site.

I don't mean to flood up this forum with one liners and whatnot, but yeah I totally agree.

I for one believe knowledge about these particular topics; higher understanding, thetan levels, etc, are not obtainable.

I enjoyed The God Who Wasn't There.  I'm not sure how valid everything was, but the way it ended was pretty hilarious.
