This is an album that I've been working on w/my band for like a year and a half or something like that. Its been done for at least 6 months, but the artwork just got finished so it is out now!
how do i get it
go to the site and download it!!!
what does it sound like?
I guess it is post rock and prog rock. Influences I can see in it are like... radiohead, ef, led zeppelin in a few tracks. I donno! Just check itout.

Nice album art, downing now.
I bet I already have this, but I'll download it again. You're a pioneer man!
-
you are so slow!!!!! i lost interest in this like four months ago. postrock? heh.
(downloadin this (beetter be good))
-
FINALLY COUCH
I'll listen to it and get back to you
-
Just checked the songs at your MySpace. Sweet stuff, man. Reminds me of Radiohead.
-
excelent coungh. i'll be sure to listen to the album when i find a good spot in my... schedule *adjusts tie*
-
That is some really cool album artwork as well dude.
-
Thanks BRO my friend brian did it. http://www.graficodesignstudio.com/brian/
hope anyone who has listened so far is enjoying!
-
thanks for not having a shitty cover like approx 90% of gw. maybe iw ill get this...but i hate couchfiend...whaddaya gonna do.
-
God damnit I'm listening to this and I started with the last song and am starting it over again because I had my winamp on loop but this is really really good.
I know I always say that about couch stuff but you guys are insanely talented, did you turn this into a label yet? Are you going to try to get signed with one or what?
Man this is some good shit. And its not even "hehe they're pretty good for an indie band." You guys are legitimately really really good and if you haven't gotten any offers or picked up yet then I wouldn't believe it.
Edit: This is really good and pretty much what I expected btw. Not as much vocal-work as I'd like but its my favorite album you've released on GW so far and its going into my ipod with all the other bands I listen to!
I don't know you probably had alot of vocal work in it but not as much actual singing and lyrical content but thats what post rock is I guess. Its still really cool to listen to and whenever I play it and someones like "dude who is that" I'll be all: I KNOW THAT MOTHERFUCKER
gratz though this is a really solid album.
-
@steel: come on steel you might like it. Maybe.
@Cox: glad you dig man. It is super encouraging to hear such overwhelmingly positive stuff. Ideally yeah I'd like to get us on some kind of good label, but we will see. It is pretty sparse vocally, yeah. The new album we're working on is actually going to be more vocal centric aesthetically.
GLAD YALL DIG.
-
(http://gamingw.net/pubaccess/25568/666.jpg)
-
sweet so this is the same album that you gave me way back, awesome (edit: apparently not, but no matter)
just want to reiterate that this is really good; i especially like the opening to havenot
-
I gave this a listen. It's pretty good, nice and relaxing in a strange way. My only real problem with this is some of the songs kind of drag on. I prefer Where is My Spaceship and EmFrik, but this is still really good.
-
How did it take 6 months to get the artwork done>
I wouldn't mind seeing this album in the store.
-
Oh yeah I wanted to mention that I think that this album sounds alot like Isis and Aereogramme together with maybe a hint of Radiohead, but I don't really hear the radiohead as much as those two.
And I'm talking about a lighter Isis and not the heavier metal stuff
-
i am glad you guys all enjoy.
Curious, why does everybody say radiohead? Like I can understand the stylistic similarities and also greatly admire radiohead so it's not like it is really annoying, its just that in terms of HMM THIS SOUNDS LIKE i dont know that I would say radiohead immediately.
Also added a b sides thing to the site for download.

rolling stone is interviewing us this week.
-
Woah really? Rolling Stone? Will you remember us when you are famous, couch?
-
hahahah whaaat
ROLLING STONE!
-
so mr evensen who was your great musical influenc
steel
-
throw a reference to us if you can:
i'd like to thank the gracious winners...
and we'll know
-
yeah I bet you guys'll get a call when this gets in rolling stone
or atleast alot more downloads make sure: ITS FREE.FREE ALBUM.ON INTERNET. is in there somewhere
-
holyt shit that is so awesome. i'mnm gonna listen to this tonight. i have high expectations for you mr. evenson!!!
-
namedrop gw. do it! we'll get like 3,000 new members
-
i talked to my bro at rolling stone. hes gonna score us some good blow and take the band out to this place he knows. says they got a real good bathroom to do coke in.
-
so you're gonna be on the cover of rolling stone? sweet
forget anything negative i have ever said in the past you know how i am..
-
can i be a roadie??? i'll lift some amps for you anytime
-
I'll be honest btw this is too POSTROCKY for my taste and I honestly listened for Couchfiend vocals so I was disappointed!
on the other hand you guys have your shit clearly together. it is just...not my kind of shit...
edit: this part in the aftermath that sounds like the trigun theme song was pretty great.
-
yeah I think if you guys get down and try to write some more melodic/vocally oriented stuff it could really rule the shits (I know you said you were already doing something like this). I know you're capable of it because of your other 2 albums plus you got other people working with you, so I can't wait to hear another release.
I think have not is the best on the album, you really hit it with that opening.
Also yeah some songs are a bit too long (and this is coming from someone who likes long ass tool songs)
-
hey is the harmonica or whatever playing "amazing grace" slightly off key in the after?
edit: pretty sure it is. man you guys have your sound together. if I had heard this three years ago when I had been slightly into postrock I would be freaking out.
edit edit: finally couch vocals...
-
i havent listened to this "released" version but im sure what i have is the same, but the very last song for some reason is great. that little girl, man. i dunno why but i like listening to it.
-
i love postrock at the moment!
-
hey this is very polished , good couch and co album.
why is there a minute of silence at the end?
-
yeah I was going to ask. why'd you do that, I listened waiting for...hidden track.
-
yeah there were some people talking in one of the neighboring yards and i thought it was coming from my speakers so i went in and searched through the wave form for a hidden couch message.
add a hidden couch message.
-
yeah, the opening song was definitely the best (also the one that sounded most like aerogramme thanks to couch singing). I was hoping for a lot more couch singing on this album, so I have to admit that was a bit of a disappointment, and I did not expect this postrock sound, but I still really liked it! Like steel, I think I would have absolutely LOVED IT like a year or two ago.
other favorites were "havenot" , "aftermath," "abraham's ashes" and "of solitary but better homes."
"the after" was very very godspeed but I still liked it.
i think the main issue is it falls into the general pitfall of postrock - without vocals, few songs are memorable. the aftermath has that catchy intro riff, "the after" has the harmonica, and we brought our own air has the great couch vocals with the high energy post rock. Without those songs, i think you'd be in a bit of trouble.
edit: but yes, add this to the growing list of GW releases that Im proud enough of to share with my friends.
-
Question-- do you guys hear the distorted vocals on some of the heavier parts or even recognize them as vocals? I know they are unintelligible lyrically but I'm wondering what they sound like to people that don't know what they are.
glad everybody digs. and yeah there is a new album in the works with more vocals and shit. Also if you want to hear some stuff thats less postrocky and more vocalcentric def check out Something Desperate which is now up and around at http://www.flightandfalling.com .
and yeah there is validity to your criticisms ase. although idk I like to think of this album as not a post rock album per se, just heavily influenced by the genre. but yeah validity.
-
yeah i recognized them as vocals but the way they're mixed it doesn't really strike as a vocal part of the song because it's kinda background.
EDIT: downloading that others tuff by the waty. i'll be back in a bit when it finished downloading.
-
i took a tour of cathedral middle moon it is bank and the liner notes are cozy aight
-
I really like let them bear you up ok but the vocals still seem a little too low in the mix to me.
-
I bought a drawing square today and I've been going around my room looking for ley lines. what I'm trying to say is it's solid and I like it, I think you guys have a lot of potential! and congrats on best album man that is nuts.
-
congrats on best album man that is nuts.
jesus christ dude.
-
hahaha who is earl chip?
-
maybe he was jokin
-
i am so impressed by this couch. well i think it's time for rolling stone to declare the savior of rock and roll.
-
Just listened to it and I have to admit, I probably would have liked it a lot more if I was still into post-rock but it was still pretty good. Really liked Havenot and The Aftermath and even though this was kinda typical post-rock to me at least your sound was.. I dunno, noisier than most of post-rock? I also really liked some of the vocals. I don't really see the Radiohead or Aereogramme comparisons but this definitely reminded me of Ef a bit here and there.
-
a little part of me wants to keep the rolling stone thing going and post a fake interview and photoshop a magazine cover itd be hilarious. But thatd make me an asshole and i just dont have the fortitude to do all that so
i am not being interviewed by rolling stone guys!
@Alec: yeah, I've heard that before, and I guess I have a TINY BIT of uncertainty about the vocal levels, but I think I like how they sit in the mix.
@everybodyWhoSaidGoodAlbum: thanks!
@ds: yeah, I think those comparisons are a bit more accurate. Glad you like. And yeah I think of us as post rock influenced but noisier.
-
jesus christ dude.
lol please earl..please post something I can use to Jone you
go away. leave couchs thread alone
-
i dnot think anyone really believed me anyway but I dont know, a couple people IMd me to check if it was true!
-
a big part of me wanted you to write a fake interview.
-
yeah steel did. in fact ase got excited because it moved our notable members from 2 to 3, or something. couch you die, die in hell.
-
hey guys trivia:
that saw represents the swansaw album.
-
gr what the fuck man. Why are you gabriel now? Also why arent you on AIM!!!
-
im headed to work ill be on in like 15-20
also gabriel rules!!!
-
dammit, i knew the ..... rolling stone... "best album of.... .year" thing was a joke but i thought you were seriously being interviewed by rolling stone because i saw it in a steel post (i bleive everything steel says if there's no CAPITALS)
damn you
-
yeah I thought he could be. rolling stone usually does throw an interview to random bands and ever since this one local band got promoted to insane degrees like two months after people were walking out of their shows (Annuals) I assumed the dude had a really good publicity engine.
couch why did you lie!
-
I liked the big letters but I can't take the big letters an big fiction too
-
sorry guys I mean I made this joke with the emFrik EP a while ago too. I thought everybody would figure it was a joke! Also I was talking about doing coke with J black. Sorry!
-
Hey guys lets get me in rolling stone for real GW SAVE SWANSAW CAMPAIGN!
-
hahah come on guys, why wouldn't you wait until he confirmed it before you jumped to the conclusion he was serious
-
because...he did confirm it? he posted it and then made a few jokes about it so I assumed it was a real thing he was laughing about. sort of like how chef tells everyone tog is made of people obsessed with sewers but he's still in actual gaming mags.
couch this wasn't one of your better jokes as it was not obvious enough to be HEH and was not out of the realm of possibility either! your band is pretty solid sounding and I always thought you did actual shows so it is...possible.
-
Nope it was still pretty obvious unfortunately, you guys believed him immediately!
-
im not going to have a silly steel lets argue this to the death debate about it though!
-
what are you talking about afura it's not like it was completely unbelievable
-
he did it for the plubicity and it worked. I only clicked on this thread because you (pidge) mentioned the album somewhere in p911. couch trolled you into being his chimp
-
he said one thing, and its a pretty big deal to believe immediately. people lie on the internet constantly!
-
I dunno Afura, most of us probably want to build our friendship on trust and belief. I suppose we didn't have it as tough as you did in your hoods.
-
Well you can see how automatic trust worked out then huh
-
you all are fools. i knew he was lying instantly. looks like you guys should get some "Street smarts".
-
ive never even opened a copy of rolling stone so the idea that his band, which as steel said, is pretty solid, might have gotten picked up as INDIE UP AND COMERS after maybe some staff writer heard their cd and was impressed didn't seem out of the realm of possibility to me.
-
yeah uh i dont see how it was SO OBVIOUS HES JOKING especially considering it was a sentence long. this is how i said i had a brain tumor! also if anyone would just be like "heh im in rolling stone" it would be couchfiend. if you think i fell for something or am way gullible it is because you do not know couchfiend...(couchfiend owns and would do exactly this if it was 100% real including making up stories of doing coke with winona ryder).
-
rolling stone did feature some post-rock bands when i picked it up like a year ago
-
rolling stone did feature some post-rock bands when i picked it up like a year ago
woooah concrete evidence right here
regardless i was right so........
hey guys guess what im going to be featured on my sweet 16 this week!
-
yeah but you're not couchfiend so no one believes you and uh YEAH it kind of is proof. several members have said Rolling Stone sometimes features indie groups and I even mentioned a local group that was nobody and then two months later were one of the biggest groups out there. this kind of shit happens a lot! you can roll your eyes at that all you want but BARKLEY IN COMPUTER GAMING WORLD dummy.
i mean look at this: http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album
it is not crazy to think couchfiend or any gw musician that sounds as solid as his group does could be in there! this was just kind of a joke that made no sense which couchfiend specializes in, it was not HEH OBVIOUS... we thought shit like the title and the coke stuff was a joke about how he actually did get in Rolling Stone.
if anything it is a testament to how together this album is that no one doubted him and I think couchfiend did not realize most people who heard the album would actually think "yeah i could see this at p4k or something like it".
-
lol please earl..please post something I can use to Jone you
go away. leave couchs thread alone
i dont need you to post anything where i can see it, you do a pretty good job of convincing people you're a stupid piece of shit on your own.
not that you'd ever post anything without trying to get a rise out of someone else and then bitch about it anyways.
-
• To reach the editors of Rolling Stone or RollingStone.com with a press release, story idea, correction or news tip, contact [email protected]. Any emails sent to this account regarding subscription services will not be answered.
I'm going to send them an email with a link to his last fm, band site, and myspace and maybe a quote of something couch said about his album I suggest other people do it too if we spam the fuck out of it maybe someone will atleast listen to it.
-
i dont need you to post anything where i can see it, you do a pretty good job of convincing people you're a stupid piece of shit on your own.
not that you'd ever post anything without trying to get a rise out of someone else and then bitch about it anyways.
ahaha what's wrong with you? is this a running gag?? I can't believe you're actually this stupid, you're trying to do something.
and yeah btw saying couchfiend's band is getting an interview isn't LIKELY but it's believable. that's not the part that was obviously a joke!! shut up and leave couchs thread alone.
-
snare's too loud
-
you're too loud!
And yeah sorry guys. I really did think this was more of an obvious joke. It is actually pretty flattering, like steel said, that everybody was like couch in rolling stone? fancy that!
so yeah badass. now i actually want to send it in to magazines. anybody have any suggestions as to magazines/blogs/whatever that would want to hear it? other avenues of GETTIN THE ALBUM OUT etc?
Also shit, I am the nameless blob. time to start using random punctuation and formatting now
-
do you really think SNARES MIXED TOO LOUD.
I did not think this.
also just send a presspack to like p4k and people like that. you won't get through probably but no harm trying. there's also what which gives bands that decide to releas eon their site freeleech and lots of publicity. i dont think i gave you an invite tho since you never posted your email in...that thread...
if you're interested in a hilarious gw exchange steve runs a record label now.
-
Honestly I don't know how the fuck to mix this haha. I think the source material for this album was honestly pretty terrible quality. I used the worst mics you could use and the guitars were all line in so it's really hard to even go back and try to mix it better.
bass tone? heh what bass tone
What no way. Who is steve and what is this label?
Also what site are you talking about I WANT PUBLICITY!
-
You could try selling it on Amie Street (http://www.amiestreet.com). I know Lars tried that but idk how much publicity it got him. All your songs start out as free and then the more people download them, the more expensive they get (tops out at $0.98).
i mean, if you don't care about the money thats cool too but they're a pretty big community!
-
no i don't care about money yet I mean I've already released it as a free thing. I just want a lot of people to have it! I will try to make money off things later.
Blogs I'm thinking about (my girlfriend suggested some) are:
daytrotter
brooklynvegan
and then magazines are like
the deli nyc
pitchfork
death and taxes
help me guys!!!
-
avclub avclub (http://www.avclub.com/channels/music/)
also SA heh..
-
what.cd! you didnt give me your email.
also steve's record label: http://www.neckbeardrecords.com/ its a dumb name but they are releasing legit records.
edit: whoa website is pretty useless haha JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT they are releasing three albums including one thats kind of big and i cant tell you about.
-
hahaha why the hell are people going wild over Couch's joke about Rolling Stone. I'm with couch and thought it was pretty obvious, especially with the whole scoring us some blow etc.
Anyway, I really liked this album, I put it on and layed down for awhile to have a sleep (meditate). It's a soothing sound and I hope that more people listen to it. Your next released shouldn't be free! I would pay to listen to this tbh
-
obviously the blow part was a joke, but it was a separate post would be no reason to mean that the first one wasnt real. Like if he really DID get contacted by rolling stone, I can imagine him making the same post "my friend says we gona get some blow"
also i think in that post he said "my friend at rolling stone" and i actually thought "oh he has a friend at rolling stone no wonder he's getting an interview". couch you are a believable dude! use this to your advantage!
-
dunno if these help, but some post-rock blogs
http://post-engineering.blogspot.com/
http://soundweave.blogspot.com/
http://wefuckinglovemusic.blogspot.com/
http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com/
damn those ar eprobably all useless, looks like I went on a massive deleting spree of all my post-rock blogs
-
I will send shit to those blogs.
steel send me an invite my email is [email protected] .
also I am gonna get in touch with neckbeard records just because I am curious about what exactly they are releasing. are they just doing local to them shit or would they be into a band abroad?
-
i don't get why people are saying TYPICAL POSTROCK i've always associated typical postrock with EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY and MOGWAI and whatever and this isn't really either of them at all.
the first four tracks are pretty cool (havenot is tight) but i don't think it really starts to pick up until the math. after that it is really really good though this is tight. you took too long though! you are slow! this is good though make more.
also i dumped all my postrock/mathrock/silly music blogs a while back so i don't really have any to suggest. maybe drop the silent ballet (http://thesilentballet.com/) an email? they're big with POSTROCK CROWD or whatever and you're post enough so maybe being featured or interviewed or something will help idk.
-
also steve's record label: http://www.neckbeardrecords.com/ its a dumb name but they are releasing legit records.

haha what is with that blog?

I posted there but am getting little response!

Go and bump my thread guys! Should I have not posted it in YOUR OWN MATERIAL?

Yeah, I think the math is almost when it stops being as post rock and starts getting more proggish? TELOCH I ADMIRE YOU SO MUCHA ND AM VERY GLAD YOU DIG
ah holy shit i gotta go its almost 1115

Hey steel I got onto what.cd thanks man. How do I post this though and get them to give me a dick rub? I do not know how to seed torrents!

Hey steel I got onto what.cd thanks man. How do I post this though and get them to give me a dick rub? I do not know how to seed torrents!
no idea, looka round their forums.
-
kicking drum is too kicky. fix or i won't listen.
-
lick a dick!!!
-
thanks dom
-
This is interesting for sure Conch, I'll have to give it a better listen before I can give better feedback but it's easy to tell this is well done on the first listen. I wish there were some more vocals though, as the bits with vocals are really good! Havenot is probably my favourite track so far.
-
Thanks dude. Yeah, that seems to be a favorite. The next album will have more vocals.
Just so you guys all know, I realized that Something Desperate was giving a 404. That is now fixed, so download away!
also murexbrandaris did an interview with me for gw about this album
http://gamingw.net/item.php?id=78165
-
Hmm. I like your music a lot, but not the vocals. Like instead of singing normally, then lowering the volume for the music to overshadow your vocals, it sounds like you're whispering into the mic and it doesn't sound good. But the music is awesome. I wouldn't mind you releasing just an instrumental release.
-
well im glad you like the music at least man.

Score: 6/10
About a year and a half ago, I reviewed a collection of B-Sides by an artist known as Ryan Farish, whom I panned rather thoroughly. Although Farish’s music was marred by numerous technical problems (unoriginality, blandness, etc.), the far more serious issue was insincerity, which was present on a truly grandiose level. It was plainly obvious that Farish’s faux-new-age-and-world stylings were an attempt to capitalize on the worst stereotypes of what he thought people would probably want to hear, rather than an honest expression of his soul. In retrospect, it is not at all surprising that Farish composes music for the Weather Channel.
Today’s album, however, is of a markedly different approach. That is to say, where Farish’s album gave us “emotion like a marionette: limp and devoid of feeling, yet manipulated to create a false impression of life,” Swansaw’s Flight and Falling drips sincerity out of every pore. As near as I can tell, Swansaw is a fairly young band, and accordingly they display a youthful exuberance that is delightfully refreshing. But how far can honesty carry you? Is it enough to care about your music with every fiber of your being, or is more required? Unfortunately, as all too many high school bands have discovered, it is not, but it is a nice start.
Which is not to say that this is a terrible album; far from it, as the score assigned indicates (remember, six and above indicates a record that is “good”). The problem is that Swansaw are not terribly creative, and their songs often head towards repetitiveness, even before they end. Although they list many of the post-rock stalwarts (Explosions in the Sky, Ef, etc.) as their influences, they also make mention of Led Zeppelin, and their general sound is more similar to standard rock, albeit with a trend towards the instrumental and occasionally even the atmospheric.
They aren’t entirely instrumental, however, and their vocalist Josh (the band only gives first names) is really to be praised for his work on Flight and Falling. In “havenot”, the second track, Josh delivers an energetic and powerful performance that reminds me of all the good aspects of early Against Me! songs - on the chorus of “We Laugh at Danger (and Break All the Rules)” in particular. His vocals are front and center, and when the song switches gears from ambient to rockin’ and Josh begins wailing away, the absolute passion and sincerity which Swansaw pour into their music becomes quite palpable. Elsewhere, such as in “whispering,” the vocals are buried into the mix and presented in a shoegazey style that works quite well with the music. These are two rather different styles of singing, and it speaks quite well for Josh that he is able to pull off both of them, as well as for the production, that it is able to support him so ably.
Structurally, the band still has some issues to work through. The aforementioned “havenot” features a brilliant first half, and for just over four and a half minutes the song chugs along quite nicely. However, there’s still another five minutes to go, and here Swansaw missteps. They switch into a quiet interlude which does not quite manage to hold the listener’s attention. Although going from a loud section to a long quiet portion is a standard trick of the trade in instrumental music—I think Godspeed You! Black Emperor might have done that once or twice—Swansaw doesn’t really capitalize on the rest they offer the listener here, and when the begin building it back up two minutes later, they never manage to eclipse the first half, and we begin to wonder why we bothered to keep listening after the 4:30 mark.
Flight and Falling is far too inconsistent to be considered a “great” album. But there are certain shining moments on display here, which make me think that, with a little retooling, Swansaw could yet hit that mark. Unfortunately, that very same sincerity that makes their music such a joy to listen to in its current stage could perhaps be holding them back, by not allowing Swansaw to critically engage with its own music. After all, its hard to be objective with things you love, and it is clear that Swansaw loves its music like a child. I would bet that this band is great in a live setting, but to really shine in a recorded format, Swansaw will probably need to try to distance itself from its music, at least a little bit. Issues of structure should be paid particular attention. However, when their music really hits its stride, such as in the first half of “havenot”, in the latter half of “abraham’s ashes”, or in many places throughout the two-song suite of “the math” and “the aftermath”, Swansaw imbues the listener with a sense of absolute glee as the screaming guitars and pounding drums wash over them. Wherever Swansaw goes from here, I would wish that they always retain that element of their music.

Wow, those CD's look great. I'd love to get something like that done since my last lot were a little disappointing quality-wise.
Also props on the review, it's pretty flattering.
-
I really want to buy this. I'll buy the CD and a shirt C'MON!!
-
I'd buy the album but I'd never do anything with it I don't use Cds but I'll order a T-shirt if you dudes ever start getting them out.
-
if you make shirts please dont put them on black or white.
there are too many fucking black/white shirts for bands.
-
Really neat stuff, I don't think I've heard anything that uses ambiance so effectively in a long time.
It gets a little repetitive sometimes but otherwise it's quite solid.
-
Hey I've been listening to this and I think it's pretty good. I have a hard time with ambient and post-rock but this keeps my attention all the way through. The second half seems to not get a lot of notice but the two or three songs following the after are my favorites. The vocals are probably the best stuff on the album but I'm sure it's because they compliment the music well. I've been trying to pass it around to people here but no one has gotten back to me on what they think yet
Also, you probably already answered this but are you doing any kind of tour? I'd definitely go if you did a show anywhere in the region

Your live in a grimey alleyway got me to listen to the whole album and I don't want to derail that topic so I guess I'll have to necropost. Here comes.
It's good, really good. For the first three and a half songs I thought that this was a postrock album but I'm very glad you proved me wrong. First of all like everyone's been saying, the album cover rules. Second, the overall sound rules. At the times it's very close and intimate with lots of room (of one less light) and then again very cacophonic and overwhelming but still as intimate. Did you do all the engineering, effects, mixing and mastering yourself? Because that's amazing work. Also your drummer's touch rules, many acid jazz DJs would probably die for that beat on of things to come.
Still the album wasn't as good as it looks on paper and as good as it could have been. It flowed on very nicely, but sometimes even too nicely. Like others have said it was a bit repetitive at times but more than that I felt like it was lacking direction. The songs went on but never ended up anywhere. A great example of this is of things to come, which gets a very good start straight from of one less light, goes on to that great beat and gains lots of momentum but in the end nothing happens and all that tension goes to waste. Many of the songs have the same problem, often the finale is marked mainly by going all out dynamically (abrahams ashes) but compositionally nothing much really happens. Those vocals everybody's asking for could help greatly in creating focal points and hooks to fix this. And I definitely want to hear more of your singing.
The math/the aftermath does brilliantly though, and they are together my favorite moment on the album. The math works on the same mellow-BOOM-mellow dynamic but it has a catchy and interesting bass line with a great jamming guitar, some hard-hitting riffing and lots of other interesting points, and that's just the math. Then aftermath kicks in and jeeesus help uus
If I can get an albumful of that I'll buy it right away.
You guys obviously have huge potential. The energy on the whole album is stunning, you mostly play your instruments very well, you seem to have found your own direction and on some songs you hit it the nail on the head with smashing force. You just need to make your next album (or maybe an EP?) a bit more concentrated.

I also listened to Something Desperate after writing that and it sounded even better. That's exactly the kind of hooks and variation Flight and Falling needed. And taking some more vocals in was definitely the right thing to do, keep on singing.
