its...I'm not really sure. it's on PS3 for four bucks and is by katamari guy.

It looks so completely pointless and boring.

this is it btw. like that's the game. your dude randomly grows and you interact with things and then you hit a button and it uploads a vid on youtube. that's the game.

The player accumulates points by how much they stretch during gameplay. These points can be submitted online via a character called Sun to another character called Girl. Points submitted online by players to Girl will be added cumulatively, causing Girl to stretch. Beginning on Earth, Girl will stretch to the Moon, then to several other planets, each unlocking new playable environments for Boy to stretch in. The Noby Noby Boy team expects players to take between one and two weeks of cumulative play time to reach the Moon

they are expecting people to play this for 150-300 hours?!

Collectively. I think. So if 100 people play for 1 hour each thats to the moon. I guess?  :welp:

now that I know there's a point though four dollars isn't so bad. I really thought that vid was basically the game.

Post by: Ghost_Aspergers on February 20, 2009, 09:54:20 pm
So the objective is to pull the d buttons in opposition to stretch your character's body until the amount collectively stretched by all players reaches the distance of the moon (and so on), unlocking new levels for everyone along the way?

Sounds awful.

I wouldn't pay to play this game. As a matter of fact I am offended that there are people who would. Games like this should not be supported.

4 bucks is nothing, i just can't see why you would pay for something which looks like it's just a tech demo

i'm not going to judge the game as i haven't played it yet but it looks like a good justification for 4 bucks.  the key component here being fun and the game looks more fun than flower

okay lets be fair I made a really shitty topic about it and there's maybe more to it than meet the eye.

someone go and waste 4 bucks on it and tell us if it's any good.

except nobody has a ps3 so someone go spend $604 and tell us if it's any good
Title: noby noby boy
Post by: CociCookie on February 20, 2009, 10:42:07 pm
I'd waste 4 bucks, but tbh I think I'd rather play some F.E.A.R or LBP on my PS3 rather than this.

So it's Katamari but less fun and only for the PS3?

If this sort of thing has come out on ps3 home and not xbla I think it says a lot about the game tbh (namely it failed to pass microsoft's standards, which are pretty low for xbla)

Minesweeper made it onto XBLA, so if it didn't pass microsofts standards (might have just not tried though, that's a possibility) that's sad.

as i've understood it, the more you stretch, the more you can report to the "sun" in the middle of a system, who'll stretch the female counterpart to BOY (aka GIRL). as all the people in the world does this simultaneously at all times, GIRL grows and envelops the universe, granting more levels and playpieces all the while a growing parade of randomly generated characters representing the contributing players march on top of GIRL, around the universe.

so, it's a playground, but when enough people has played (aka risk getting bored) the game expands.

did i miss anything?

Agreed, seems like they didn't put too much effort into the visuals.

Aside from the plain backgrounds I don't understand how exactly there is supposedly no effort in the visuals.

I can't quite understand what the goal is, I guess it's sorta like Katamari expect you stretch the worm dude instead of growing a katamari. Looks pretty fun though, even if the gameplay seems a tad uneventful.

Given some more depth this could possibly be a fun idea, it just...doesn't really look finished right now!  It pretty much DOES just look like a tech demo.

Oh well maybe it'll be made into a full fledged game that will turn out good somehow.

you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

it's an experiment in dev to player interaction; the more you play in the virtual world, the more the virtual world "expands."

as far as the gameplay goes, it's a literal 3D version of snake.  you eat objects and grow and your length is collected together from gamers across the globe.

the game is fun.  it's a pick up and play experience that doesn't get repetitive TOO fast and there's enough trademark WONKINESS (eating clouds and shitting out rainbows) to make it visually and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

you guys are comparing this to big budget projects because "graphics sux".  it's a fucking 5$ game with great replay value.  i'm excited to see how they'll expand things in the future but i can see myself playing this for the rest of the year.

yeah, i saw a couple videos of this game and it's something i really want to play. i want to find out WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS. from what i can tell, it's sort of a physics playground where you mess around and eat stuff to get larger. i think it's about experimenting with your environment and figuring out how to interact with things. it sounds pretty neat and if i had a ps3 i would be all over this.
Title: noby noby boy
Post by: Marcus on February 21, 2009, 10:53:42 am
alright here's the basic gist of the game:

it starts with 1 level (the grass area you see).  the premise of the game is to reach every celestial body; at which point the devs will release new levels.  once players reach the moon, it's rumored they'll have to reach mars or another planet.  length is calculated using real distance in meters i believe.  the moon is 384K kilometers from the earth and there are 1K meters to a kilometer; the dev team expects players to take 1-2 weeks to reach the moon so new map probably by the end of the month (you can view player rankings and stuff).

anyways, you stretch your body by moving your two halves in opposite directions.  the more you eat, the longer you're capable of stretching.  because you get unwieldy at ridiculously large sizes, positioning is key.  you can't "die" but to maintain your balance on the tiny map you have to anchor yourself by wrapping around objects like clouds and trees.

there's no point to the game other than killing time whenever you have it to spare.  it's mellow, it's simple, doesn't require much thought, and it's basically the equivalent of drinking a wine cooler; sweet, crisp, with just a hint of punch.  5$ that's 1/2 the admission to Push or Paul Blart Mall Cop.

We reached the moon :D

First time there, the Prince from Katamari hopped on my back and I ate him.  There were flying saucers kidnapping dancing monkeys and a giant monkey king leading the pack while corkscrews lifted random objects in the air and launched them.

I played this on Friday when I had a friend over to beat on in Street Fighter 4.

And man.. I didn't have any idea what I was doing. I ended up stretching so far that my head fell off one end of the map and my ass off of the other, and then I managed to just simply tumble off of an entire side of the map before respawning from a chimney.

Weird game. I never had any idea what I was supposed to be doing while I played.

Takahashi is my new favorite developer

Quote
>Eurogamer: Do you have any plans to extend the game with more downloads in future? >Perhaps new levels, objects, planets, or modes?

>Keita Takahashi: Yes, we will make a big update approximately two months after the release. I think we will be able to present the content pretty soon.

>At first I wanted to make more updates, but the development got longer, and I want to keep the price low. Without having a lot of people playing the game, I don't think that the decision-makers at the company will allow another update. So I want many people to play the game.

>Please allow me to keep updating the game!

>Eurogamer: Did your bosses at Namco complain when you said you didn't want the game to have objectives?

>Keita Takahashi: As my hierarchy only complains and only talks about the so-called "right things" to do when creating a game, I just tried not to care about what I was being told. To be honest, I don't really remember. But I was told something like "make it look more like a game", "make it easier to understand", "make it more accessible" I think.

>Eurogamer: How do you want players to feel when they're playing Noby Noby Boy?

>Keita Takahashi: I want them to relax. It is OK to fall asleep while playing it, too.

I downloaded this yesterday, yet to play it. The Katamari guy made it, and I expect it to be "uh wtf" to look at but highly addicting to play. That's what Katamari was.

I'm not complaining that the 4th Katamari was on Xbox only. It's gay, sure, like Ace Combat... But there's a new Katamari starring the King of Cosmos in the works for PS3. The problem with Beautiful Katamari is they seemed to be making it for the 360 and then port it to PS3. This doesn't really work too well unfortunately. The 360 being the weaker of the two, and likely programmed differently, porting to PS3 has always presented problems.
I also read they're working on a Wii katamari... That'd be so awesome!

Yeah I was. The same for Ace Combat. PlayStation series', enjoyed up to that point---then suddenly Xbox exclusive? Totally gay. Like giving a kid action figures all his life, then one day taking them all away and putting them inside a glass box you can't touch. Fuckin' sucks.

Also, Noby Noby Boy is pretty fun, but not nearly as good as Katamari. I'll still probably play this for some time though... :)

Yesterday I stretched my dickBOY to 4,320m. Then I ate some cameltoe and floated into space so I could shoot my love juice in GIRL's mouth, and make her happy. Then I compared my dickBOY size with other people.

At this point, I moved to a new level, and am starting to wonder why I didn't buy that jewelquest-like game instead.
