daaaaaamn son you never heard of j dilla.

okay here are some opinions everyone can disagree with:

-aesop rock- lyrics make no fuckin sense but he's got a good voice and he's okay and the hype really kills him more than any fault of his own. he's barely hiphop but quantifying him somewhere else would be a lie.
-(formerly) rjd2- had some good albums, then went on to be electronica and substandard at that.
-cage- no thanks
-mr. lif- one of bort's favs
-del tha funkee homosapien- everyone in the world will sperg to you about how del's NOT LIKE OTHER RAPPER HE RAPS ABOUT COOL THINGS but really dude made a videogame song and a concept album about being a space warrior. this is all kind of lame as fuck but automator threw some tight beats in 3030 and once again the audience should not determine the music. just do not become one of these people, they are annoying as hell. he was also on gorillaz so you've probably heard him.
-el-p- god people were freaking out for el-p when his album dropped but company flow is better aaaaaand it's another case of backpacker hiphop syndrome. it's okay to like el-p but man there's better out there for sure.
-hangar 18- never heard
-rob sonic- rings a bell, does he make beats?
-the perceptionists- can be hella lame.

-oh no- DON'T KNOW!
-madlib- another backpacking band but I mean all of these are backpacker bands so I should stop saying that. he's got some great instrumentals and he's fucking everywhere but let's face it he's not as tight as...
-(formerly) j dilla- this guy! it's really a shame he died, even more of a shame how many people only paid attention after he died, and the most shameful is that his mom is now also dying of lupus and she doesn't see a dime of the money he made :( but man his beats for slum village and the pharcyde are hiphop essentials, and even though people freak out over donuts or whatever it's not bad at all. really great guy who will be remembered as a hiphop legend in time.
-madvillain- mf doom has the most boring voice on the planet and is a complete dick
-lootpack
-quasimoto- rings a bell, but not a good one.
-james pants

okay thats all. best record label is defjam...

I like De
I haven't heard much of his solo stuff(11th hour is it actually) but he seems to gel well with dan on anything, and Heiroglyphics are really great.

Recommend me shit, I am hip-hop illeterate. I like backpacker stuff but I also like Easy Mo Bee and Tribe called quest(who doesn't)
and before Afura posts, Wu-Tang are allright. Ghostface is just boring.

I guess check out J Dilla also lol at el-p I just keep imagining rapping over stupidly annoying keyboard solos.

Actually fuck that I've just heard TRANSFORMERS NAMEDROPPING in a Hieroglyphics song. Not even Prime or Megatron like the usual guys mention(looking at you dr octagon) but fucking ravage and rumble.

Call me a backpacker? That's preposterous! I've got a gold chain!

I picked def jux basically because they have Cannibal Ox and I like Cannibal Ox a lot. Don't usually pay much attention to label politics, and not much on stones throw rings a bell. J Dilla is cool for sure, but I haven't listened to him enough to be like "oho that guy hes the greatest! *votes*".

since like last november.

also i voted for def jux.  i find most of their acts fairly uninteresting and that whole style tends to blend together i think, but i dig aes and a few others.  aesop is a gr9 mc and i like his production, el-p can be pr. good, and i like del quite a bit.  plus pre-the third hand rjd2 is one of my fav producers and i think blockhead is still on def jux too??  hes also good; iirc downtown science was not a bad album at all.  i saw him live once and he was neat.  anyway yeah, def jux.  the only dudes on stones throw i have any experience with are madlib and madvillain and i'm not too into either.

Though it hasn't reached 2Pacian proportions yet, the 2006 passing of beloved cult producer/MC J-Dilla has spurred a good deal of posthumous  releases. The latest is a collection of mostly instrumental tracks with a few vocals from prominent Dilla fans/collaborators like Black Thought, DOOM (who has officially shed the MF from his name) and M.O.P thrown in for good measure called Jay Stay Paid. The album will be Executive-Produced by Dilla's mother, affectionately known to Hip Hop fans as Ma Dukes. Dilla's long-time hero and collaborator Pete Rock will help put the album together and serve as its musical director. Jay Stay Paid is due out June 2nd on Nature Sounds.

The white rappers Sole and El-P had beef when Sole rhymed that his record got coflow running scared or something.

El-P responded with the track linda tripp and sang about shoving his dick into sole's throat

White rapper beef should be called pork(cuz its the other white meat)
