Title: Making FF7 work on PC (cracks n shit)
Post by: Christophomicus on March 09, 2009, 04:20:45 pm
Hey guys. I downloaded FF7 Ultima Edition the other day (which is some form of Hong Kong rip of the game or something?) - the archive contained a setup.exe and a setup1.bin and a setup2.bin and some dumb TORRENTED FROM X SITE.TXT file. I went through and installed everything and it went fine, so then I downloaded the 1.02 official patch and applied a couple of fan-made mods (Reunion Patch, NPC Reconstruction Patch, Hi-Res Patch). After doing all this I decided to give the game a whirl, and lo and behold it asks me to put a CD in. You silly goose, go mount the .bins on PowerISO or something, you say; PowerISO refuses to mount either of them, saying they're corrupt or invalid or something. All the No-CD cracks I've found are for v 1.00 as well, and don't seem to want to work. So I can't get it to work, and basically my idea is to go back and redo everything except for installing the 1.02 patch, so that the 1.00 cracks will work, but if there's a way to keep the 1.02 patch that would be spiff.

Anyone got any ideas?  :fogetshrug:

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit if that helps! I realise it's a really fucking long shot, but I figured there might be someone out there on GW who's done this before.

EDIT: To clarify, I've got 2 out of 3 of the original FF7 discs legitimately, but neither of those work either (whole reason I torrented it in the first place is 'cause of that feckin' missing disc!)

OK problem solved, Alec hit it on the head. I just uninstalled and reinstalled it without applying the 1.02 update, WHICH MEANS I have nice hi-res texture patches and shit... but am forced to run at the prehistoric resolution of 640x480. Oh well, apart from that it all works, so this topic's done!

Yeah, basically it's the one where they replace the crappy NPC models with ones that fans have done that match the dimensions of the main party's battle characters (so it doesn't look terrible (well, debatable) when you're running around as FULL SIZED CLOUD and this midget dude that's older than you).
