Title: DLL Problem, I think.
Post by: Abelone on March 10, 2009, 04:42:32 pm

So, eh, this is what happens when I try to run a file with Media Player Classic. It also happens when I try to run Rome Total War.

Not too long ago, some messages started to appear occasionally about above dll committing an illegal and shutting down, it happen often after opening a folder, and usually showed up twice-thrice in a row.
Ever since then the above imaged issue occurred.  I don't see the dll shutting down message anymore for some reasons.

I ran a registry scan and cleaned everything and downloaded a new .dll to replace the old one, no improvement.

Help and advice would be much appreciated.

Did you uninstall and reinstall Media Player Classic.
Also, downloading DLLs from the internet is not a good idea!

I did not, since more than one software had problems, I assumed the source is rooted somewhere else.
Really? I've ran a virus scan on the file before opening it and the site I got it from seemed legit (though they do have good disguises nowadays!).

You know, as much as I love MPC, I can deal with the alternatives. It's really R:TW I'm worried about, or perhaps that it'll spread out.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71

I've come across this problem dozens of times before. Downloading and installing the DLL is safe and fixes everything. The archive will contain instructions where to place the DLL.

That's where I got it, I tried following the instructions, unzipping doesn't seem to work, did both system and the program folder.
The CMD gives this message:

"msvcr71.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

This file can not be registered"
