This link may be inaccessible to those of you living outside the UK but I am sure you would be able to acquire it if you're eager: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jf3hx/Newswipe_Episode_1/
Simply:
Charlie Brooker is a journalist for the guardian who writes a column called "Screen Burn (http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2009/mar/27/charlie-brooker-screen-burn-apprentice)" which is a satirical pisstake on television in the past week - pretty much a rock solid rant that's hilarious and totally worth getting the guardian on a saturday for. This eventually evolved into a TV show called screen wipe, crossing the media from newspaper to tv and becoming 10x funnier. This week there's the first ever news wipe which is a further evolution of the concept, exploring the methods that news channels use to make the news more dramatic but it's presented in a way that makes it seem a lot funnier.
He also wrote this article about David Cameron (leader of the conservative party) http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2007/apr/02/comment.conservatives

I like how the format is exactly the same as screenwipe with like 3 new props
it was good btw. Charlie brooker is really one of my favourite guys. Nathan Barley was probably the worst thing he's written and that's partly because it suffered from the keeping up appearances effect.

this is pretty similar to last year's screenwipe episode about the news, which I enjoyed, so it's all good :)
-
yeah newswipe was brilliant.\
not much else to say here.

nathan barley was fucking brilliant
-
No yeah it was good. Let me explain the keeping up appearances effect: it's when the people the show is making fun of don't get it and think it's the funniest thing going. see also Ali G

the great thing is how the effect was part of the show

Yeah. I like nathan barley I got it on DVD somewhere here but I think I expected more cause I really like the cunt nathan barley bits of screenburn and I got Hyped Up

I watched this and it was okay I suppose! I don't think Charlie Brooker is very funny. He doesn't annoy me or anything, he just doesn't make me laugh. The woman in that moneygeddon sketch was wearing a t-shirt that said "EPIC FAIL" on it and I don't have enough faith in this show's style to think that was a clever joke. Sorry, Charlie Brooker...
-
Yeah this was as funny as brooker always is....except for the epic fail
-
I laughed at the epic fail because I am cheap and easy to please. You're all just cynical because your genitals have withered from years of cathode ray tube radiation and you can't make love to mrs handy pandy any more.

edit: epic fail was terrible. if the internet is referenced on tv, it should be in how horrible it is, not as an actual meme.

That footage of thatcher in this week's ep is so shocking.
