Hey I know at some point there was already a topic or something about this but I never got to look through it.
I'm thinking about picking up oblivion again and what are some cool mods I can get for it?I read I could get new races and additional content, that would be cool. Keep in mind I know next to nothing about modding pc games but I've already got the shivering isles and knight thingy expansions.
help a bro out.

Make sure you look around to find out if those are the latest versions, I was too lazy to look.
But yeah basically those two are all you ever need. OOO overhauls the entire game, making it 500.4% more fun, and MMM adds a bunch of new monsters and variation between the monsters. Now not all goblins are exactly 5 foot 1 with hex #6b8f62 skin, they are DIVERSE.
Pretty cool yo.
-
alright thanks I'll check these out real soon.
Do I need to install these after I install the other expansions or what.
-
there are no expansions for oblivion, just official mods. im sure they're mentioned in the readme's for ooo and mmm, but if not just have all of them active at the same time, if you get problems then deactivate some.
find the oblivion mod manager, its a program that allows you to edit the order mods are loaded and shows you if you have conflicts between them

Pretty sure Shivering Isles counts as an expansion, it's too big for an addon (i realize the mod manager and launcher treat it like one) and it retailed at like 29.99 or 39.99 or something.
You could sort of count Knights of the Nine too, but it's pretty small in comparison.
-
my point is they arent expansions, expansions tend to change the game's code, and make mods/patches/hacks etc obsolete and need changing, wheras all the "expansions" for oblivion are literally just stuff added on to the main game, ie all mods still work (unless they happen to mod the same patch of ground the portal for shivering isles appears on, etc)
if oblivion released expansions like any other game, ie WoW style or whatever, then every mod would need to be tweaked every time one is released. thankfully that isn't the case :~
-
make sure you get all the ones that let you see your character naked
-
Fallout 3 is a good one
-
that was a good one. I shoulda seen that one coming.
Ok, I think I know what manager you're talking about.
-
I second OOO and MMM.
Also get Toastys Share and recruit. its a companion mod. that alows you to recruit any NPC who favors you. You get 4 generals and can form squads based on those 4 generals. You can share equips. tell a npc to meet you at a local in. tell them to wait or harvest. its pretty cool.
-
Try and avoid all the bethesda DLC addons. Knight/Isles aren't THAT bad but the rest are an absolute fucking joke and a waste of money.
Beyond OOO/MMM just get the UI mods that change it from the ghastly gigantic xbox inventory to a morrowind style one
-
man you are like the last fucking person i'd ever expect to want to play oblivion
anyhow try downloading FCOM: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/theelderscrollsivoblivion/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-48544847&pid=924363&page=0 it's ridiculously complicated to get working but apparently it's worth it. i'm actually trying to do it now.
-
tell me how it works
I went through and just downloaded a fuckload of mods that seemed decent from one of the links that jester put up
-
dude don't do that. none of them will be compatible with each other and you'll break the game
-
dude don't do that. none of them will be compatible with each other and you'll break the game
If its anything like Morrowind, this is exactly what will happen.
-
well too late it already happened and now I'm installing that FCOM thing
-

nah use the oblivion mod manager or whatever, it can detect and fix incompatibilities
-
it's not good enough to deal with installing FCOM. it has a very specific install order! i'm literally still trying to figure it out, but that guide is very easy to deal with.
-
i seriously don't understand why FCOM isn't just one big ol' download.
-
yeah I just got done with it and I'm pretty sure I got it working right
-
man, i wish oblivion ran more reliably on my computer, i never really got to experience OOO/MMM past the first few dungeons as it would repeatedly crash. thanks vista.
this kinda topic and that FCOM thing that i've never seen before makes me want to try it again but idk :<
oh, thats right, i hated the graphics after playing the 360 version, does anything in that fcom compilation fix the far-away textures to actually look good? i know there were texture replacement mods, but they were terrible cumbersome things that still only made it look marginally better than default
so yeah, anyone know if they ever fixed the graphics?
-
im glad those recess episodes work more reliably though jester......
-
what recess episodes
what does that have to do with oblivion at all
i mean you couldve at least said like "recess mods" or "disgusting toon porn mods" or something to at least make it look like you're trying
i give this troll 2/10 try harder
also sneans
-
yeah I was going to say something about that being lame as fuck but yeah
sneans is lame as fuck too get the ffuck out of hereyour ruining my mosd
-
Do yourself a favour though and don't download things that ruin the experience (such as overpowered NPCs following you, massive mansions for free, items that are the best and cost a bajillion gold etc). I used to be like that, but then I decided it really fucking ruined it for me. Don't fall into the trap of caring for the mods more than playing the game.
-
I already beat it twice i just want it to be a little different and with more shit really
-
There was this really good mod for Oblivion I played once, I don't remember the name but it changed alot of how the game worked and looked. It made it into a much better (tho still kinda boring imo) game. Man, what was it called..
EDIT: Oh yeah, it was called Fallout 3.
*rimshot*

i don't get it
-
hey coxswain how do you like FCOM so far? i am still installing
-
I haven't played enough but its alright. Its annoying as fuck sometimes because you can't lockpick chests if there are monsters around.
-
I have the 360 one. I beat the main quest, but is there anything else I can do in that game? I mean aside from finishing mini quests. er...i dont have the goty version just the original. oblivion was awesome but fallout 3 is better imo. still gotta beat it though
-
Nothing really... Except expansions but they arn't worth it. Really your better off with Fallout 3, btw Fallout 3 actually has an ending which i personally like.
-
i haven't even come close to the end of oblivion but it doesn't have an ending? what?
-
Let me put it to you this way, they congrajulate you then thats it, now all you have left is to unlock a couple shops and everyone acts like you did diddly squat. In Fallout 3 theres credits and everything.
-
they're both almost the same goddamn game.I think I thought oblivion was a little more epic with the gathering of forces from different villages but I thought the oblivion gate thing got really repetitive and I loved the super robot dude in fallout so they probably even out imo.
I'm going to try to get blazed off of some incredibly shitty weed and play this shit with the FCOM mod set and I'll get back to you on it.
-
Are there any mod to add dwarves to oblivion? I'm sick of this elf shit, they need some balance.
-
I think I thought oblivion was a little more epic with the gathering of forces from different villages
but you got a single soldier from each of this villages, it was shitty. liberty prime ftw.
for me, the real plus side of oblivion (over fallout 3) was the magic and experimenting with spell making.
-
man this shit is fucking hard.
I wondered out of that cave from the prison ant the very start and into some other cave full of modded amazonian man-eating bitches that kicked the living shit out of me. They could summon fucking storm atronochs and I'm only lvl2.
I got em eventually though
Edit: I wonder if the modders just made all those enemies really hard to scale. I put the slider all the way on easy and it was still really really hard.
-
I don't know where you are! The game just makes it maybe 20% slower to level and stuff for me with FCOM. also Daedra actually fucking swarm the countryside and mount attacks on villages if you download the enhanced daedric invasion plugin. i think you maybe stumbled upon a modded-in high level dungeon.
-
yeah I did because I think those amazons were custom made. All the other mobs are about the same.
they increased the number of enemies though. Normally where I would run into 2-3 monsters or something I run into like six at the same time.
-
have you seen a goblin war? it's really amazing. they'll form war parties and march across cyrodil to an enemy goblin tribe with torches and war flags.
-
hells no
ain't no gobs gonna war it in my cyrodil. If I see any gobs preforming a coup they're gonna get an arrow to the face.
I can one shot most of the weaker mobs though and its fun watching them backflip. then I take out the gob hearts and eat it for health, I call it "gobblin on gobs". What the hell though they never made it where you can fight mounted on horses? Thats dumb.
-
goblin wars is not modded, fyi. goblin wars is one of the most interesting things in the original game, but i'm guessing the mod adds lots more units to the warband.
fun thing to do: sneak into all 6 goblin tribe caves, steal their witchdoctor stick things, swap them all around, then just wait around a bit. all 6 will send war tribes to get their sticks back, and huge goblin fights ahoy.
so it's working for you guys so far? not crashing or anything? coxswain, did you install any of the official mods at all (even knights of the nine/shivering isles)?
-
yeah I got them all installed.
I crash but its because I run other shit while I'm playing and it crashes alot when I alt tab, but nothing out of the ordinary really.
