dats some friggin' anime wallpaper
do you ever get a lil embarrassed or self-conscious whenever anyone sees that?
Real professionals only see their desktops when logging in.Right, so there's no point in making it look pretty when I can instead make it HANDY :]
Quick Launch, Start Bar and even Run are just way more efficient. And Windows 7 even adds a new taskbar in to the soup. Using Desktop for programs and files is just meh.
Launchy (http://www.launchy.net/) is the reason I don't have desktop icons. A couple quick keystrokes launches anything on my computer. With things so easily accessible, my desktop is essentially eye-candy.
thanks for the link hz there were some other cool wallpapers by that guy now im using....it takes 5 minutes to bang a wallpaper like that out its all brushes downloaded from deviantart, place on picture. that is just proof that the gtuy has no originality and cant do anything except use brushesHidden content (Click to reveal)(https://legacy.gamingw.net/pub/25085/desktop0904.jpeg)
and yeah fu dom its good
i use colibri, its basically ctrl+space and just type the name of the program you want to open and press enter. v.good.
its like OSX but i never paid for itya also everything else that is completely different to osx

this is the desktop of a huge nerdi don't use my desktop apart from txts and folders and the last game i played was mother 3 last semester so yep i play lots of gba roms. who is going to see my desktop apart from people on the internet, anyway? to be fair tonight i was thinking about what having floral wallpaper as wallpaper says about me, that i would prefer that over natural desktops. does it even matter when the nature scenes are essentially glamor shots. dumb things. i was watching an environmental film festival thing and one of them was just a series of stills, plus i've been reading about commercialization vs. aestheticization lately, so it wasn't out of nowhere hm... what does my desktop say about me
do you really play gameboy advance roms all that much!!! clean it up okay
man warlin your desktop is so boring how could you live like that? It's pretty hard. Sometimes I look at it and cry, but I manage. I manage.
(http://pici.se/pictures/XdEWvanHt.png) (http://lassekongo83.deviantart.com/art/Shiftie-Striped-Update-119876231)lol i clicked your 'art' link. Do you just have a folder full of pictures of asian women on your harddrive that you make sure to open before you take a screenshot to put on deviantart?
Icon filled desktops are ugly. The wallpaper is a peace of art that is sometimes nice to look at. I wouldn't destroy it with ugly icons. :( Also, there is no need for icons any longer when there are keystroke programs like gnome-do, launchy etc.
Protip (not directed at Steel): In Vista you can hide your desktop icons at any time by right clicking, going to View, and then check or uncheck "Show Desktop Icons". :)
i came to this topic lookin' for desktops with anime babes in the background
what happened to those good old days?
GOD WHY DO YOU HAVE SUCH A SHITTY DESKTOP THOSE ARE ALL CUSTOM BRUSHES UGHHH. ~~ dom on his period (everyday)~ flowerpower being entirely ignorant about design
i don't see why people can't have a desktop that uses "custom brushes" if they think it looks nice. sorry that it took a subjective kick of taste in your asswell, IN MY OPINION,
not that i'd use it but does it REALLY surprise you people use that shit
that's really pretty HZ where'd you get that wallpaper?
I don't know the original source of the wallpaper, I got it from Stadsport in the last post your desktop topic ages ago. Wallpaper is here.
also this is tangential but do you guys know any good foobar skins or is it worth doing that shit at all? I don't care about stupid desktop stuff but there's probably some that are more functional than what i've got.

Windows 7 runs amazingly fast compared to even xp on my laptop. the only problem is that when I tried it, I could not play certain games as they did not have the correct drivers available for my video card. it manages memory usage a lot better, and has a few neat little extras here and there. I'm looking forward to getting the final version.i recall microsoft saying vista drivers should work? might be wrong tho.
any particular reason that your icons are the size of melonsI like 128x128 icons on my desktop a lot more than the usual 32x32 or 48x48. I actually think the Mac OS X default is 64x64 or even bigger. I still use tiny icons when browsing files, though:
don't the icons on the desktop pretty much lose their purpose when you've got like 12 stacked on top of each other because there's no room for them all?Yep. I need to clean up.
[hide="Vistatop Desktop'](http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq332/Chipvire/Other/Desktop.png) I have some strange stuff on this laptop, best part being they all actually work! It's a Vista Miracle![/hide]Why is there a lolcat in your desktop.
Why is there a lolcat in your desktop.
I use my desktop as sort of a post it board. Programs I'm using frequently, files I'm working on, music I want to have at a single click's reach...Wow! That sounds.... .... terribly inefficient!
I wait until I have the whole thing filled up, and then I move all the stuff to a folder for that date, nest it in another folder with the other archives, and start all over again.

27 degrees? holy f.
baby names 1.0
what
there is not a lol big enough for my feelings towards thisyeah iirc you can't do 10googol pt font
why 1.0? how many revisions of a baby name program do you need to make in the future?Just one.
why not just use one of the millions of sites that do this exact thing?Because in case I don't have internet connection, I can use it to look up names for characters on my RPG Maker games. That is why you also see Riva FLV Player, it's a program that allows me to watch flash video files such as YouTube videos. :welp:
why do you need it enough to warrant a desktop icon
and the big one why
oh no the internet is down! When the internet is down I'm thankful I don't have to communicate with you.....
at least i can still work on my maps.........
do you name your rm2k characters the same things that you would name your own babiesOf course. Say hello to my knight Corey, white mage Belinda, ninja Billy, and samurai Johnny.
i'm actually impressed i thought you were going to name them eddie or vic:fogetcool: :rockout:

man what is the point of a blank desktop (little or no icons)There are better ways to launch applications than from desktop (that's what most people use desktop for, anyway).

Agh StudioFortress I would hate to sit down at your computer because you're just like "fuck conventions, I'm going to do what works for me!".It used to annoy the hell out of my boss whenever he worked with me on stuff at my PC. I always found it really funny. I also use a trackball and one of those ergonomic split keyboards, that's enough to stop people from using my PC.
Ah but seriously I'm sure there's a better way to accomplish what you're going for there... I think you might like Stardock Fences (http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/) as you've got that whole grouping thing going on.Thanks, but that looks like it adds panels to the desktop. I only ever see my desktop when I boot and shutdown the PC. What's so great about the folders bar is that it pops up on top of other apps, so I can grab stuff without switching away from the app. But I've since switched to Windows 7 and it can no longer do the folders bar at the top. I've had to move those folders onto the Start menu and it's no where near as good.

I think you'll find this much better than throwing your folders in the start menu.
Well it is apparently only $30 or so and I doubt it would take any more effort than popping the disk in, selecting "english" and leaving it be for an hour at most to installokay well i can't really risk any shit happening (although obviously not likely) until this semester is over and i just don't want to have to deal wiht it right now

thx2rami for the program which allows animated backgrounds.

I think you'll find this much better than throwing your folders in the start menu. Thanks again, but I don't like that either. I'd now need to click twice in order to access my folders and apps and I much prefer my new Windows 7 layout where it's all available (although my previous one was waaaaaay better).

Simply press the window key and then type whatever app or document you want to launch (complete or incomplete... typing "calc" and hitting enter will launch the calculator, for instance).
I might go back to using launchy (http://www.launchy.net/), another cool app. You can open it with ctrl+space and then type in what you want to run. It features auto-completion for the app and folders names which re-priotises as you use it, allowing you to type less in the future.
it's called DeskScapes.Did you pay for this?

i wanna know what that little bar is, it looks useful
and i should give 7stacks a try.
rami did.shares?
i feel like the only practical use for a program like that is to turn your background into an aquariumYeah it's really just eye candy like Aero is. I wasn't hot on Dreamscenes because they're just videos and they eat up CPU and energy... but if it was a rendered background that probably wouldn't be bad at all.
I'm farting around with Fences after GL suggested it a few posts up. Finding it a very fun alternative to relying completely on Rocketdock, might organise my stuff logically in future but for now it can sit around like this.I like your custom Final Fantasy 7 iconwheee (Click to reveal)(http://pub.gamingw.net/41050/desktop.jpg)
Also yeah there's a bit of faggy anime shit there i really need to get rid of it sometime
deskscapes also uses videos for it by the way. it doesn't use that much cpu or memory though, makes no difference for me at least. At least most of them are right? I thought even the free version came with some water effect that was rendered on the fly. That's sort of a buzzkill I guess... I've been experimenting using the screen saver as the background. The ribbons screen saver takes like 3% CPU usage for my OC e7200, so not bad at all.
is there a mac version of this anywhere? i want to turn by background in to an aquariumFrom what I've read they haven't officially released Dream Aquarium for the mac but I hear it works fine using CrossOver. There are alternatives but apparently people tend to like DA more than the other aquarium savers. Also remember there's the wallsaver mac widget which lets you turn any mac screensaver into your desktop wallpaper.

a fresh start to my laptop. Still have to install video drivers so the resolution is as high as it can get at the moment>>Those icons are very large.1024 x 768 (Click to reveal)(http://pub.gamingw.net/41354/meindesktop.jpg)

seems like it would have been easier to have just minimized them in the first place when you took the screen shotya but then you just get a fucking massive image of grass
but HEH what do i know :welp:
you do know that you can sign up to youtube for free and they will allow you to save favorite videos so that you don't have to save links to your desktop, right???what happened is he probably used listentoyoutube to download the Beyond Good and Evil Soundtrack so he could burn it/ listen to it away from the internet. :P
you could even put them in playlists if you want!!!

this has been mentioned previously.
What is that wallpaper from, hobo?No idea, found it in an image dump on /tg/
No idea, found it in an image dump on /tg//transgender/?
what's with people not using their desktops?
Desktop is for windows, not icons. Start menus, task bars, quick launch bars and the like were invented years ago for a reason!
Im the opposite vellfire lol :D. I have every application on my desktop that I have installed on my computer just for laziness purposes. Its chaotic but it saves me from clicking the start button.

You know me, I love me some J-RPG's.
Just thought the (six) part was weird, didn't get it
The best feature is the gestures to position windows. I use side-by side browsing a lot so that's very useful.Fuck how am I supposed to hate on windows 7, that's a cool feature
man ds i could change my desktop 2 try to be funny toohuh?
Why would I run aero? It sucksIt sucks? In what way? It's aesthetically a lot more pleasing than GREY.
It sucks? In what way? It's aesthetically a lot more pleasing than GREY.I appreciate your opinion but I don't think so.
windows classic theme is so ugly i don't understand how anyone can prefer it over aero
how is it ugly? it's plain boxes. it's like saying letters are ugly.
transparent windows make everything look messy.
I appreciate your opinion but I don't think so.Well like I said beyond aesthetics there is utility to it.
Aero shake is fuckin stupidYeah no it's a pretty decent idea but it's way too hard to get it to work even half the time. I think it's meant for people on tablets mostly... or at least that's where it works best.
but a nice mister told me that it's safe
im gonna hack ur schoolDude you totally should!
(fancy youtube video)And here i have my Windows 7 set to olde-windows 2000 style in an effort to make this machine run at all.
Watch on youtube for 1080p.
And here i have my Windows 7 set to olde-windows 2000 style in an effort to make this machine run at all.Lol, you need some new hardware man! You probably could run the fish tank background like you see in my vid, it would just not be economical for your CPU. It puts a whopping 3% full-time strain on my Core-i5. For you it would probably be something in the ballpark of 35%, assuming you have a P4.
How do you use almost 99% of 1TB
i also have a large collection of hentai / yaoi if anyone's interested.
but we're drifting off
oh come on i know your into that too. everyone is.
I cant even fill a 160 gb drive. :/
oh come on i know your into that too. everyone is.
sex is sex, no matter how it's presented. whether it's real people or drawn characters, it's sex. if you can see emotions in movies and anime, you can see sex in movies and anime.
im not a big hentai fan, especially not the tentacle-crap, but not all hentai is about that. some hentai is genuinely about two normal people having normal sex
that's still generalizing
it's like saying all anime is about girls with big eyes and strong males who need to save the world
what i don't understand is why you felt the need to tell us about this
