This is my YouTube channel in which I Let's Play (play through and commentate) video games. Right now I'm working on Final Fantasy V Advance, thought this would be a good place to advertise. I know I sound a little bored in the first few videos, but I get better about that.
Also, my girlfriend is using the channel to put up her song covers (singing) and she's pretty good, if ya wanna check that out too. We're looking for more people to join the channel to expand it a bit, if anyone's interested.
EDIT: Oh, and comment, rate, subscribe, all that. If you're feeling generous that is. I'd appreciate comments more than anything, I love getting feedback. =)
EDIT AGAIN: Also, I should mention that it also doubles as a walkthrough, as I am getting all Blue Magic, showing all secret passages/chests, give boss strategies, am showing all optional content, etc. I know, not the hardest game in the world, probably doesn't need a video walkthrough, but I have fun doing it, so whatever.

I kinda like some Let's Plays.. rarely, but occasionally, which is weird because watching people play videogames is really the epitome of boring.
But, I think watching someone play a long ass RPG probably takes the cake. There's no entertainment there, sorry! Come back when you are playing something vaguely exciting to watch.

Hmm, yeah. Maybe because you can fast forward to the interesting bits? Of course if the game isn't interesting at all it all becomes very boring, very quick.

the only Lets Play I enjoyed watching was Deceased Crab's La-mulana one, because it was a hard game, yet intriguing game and I wanted to experience it all. And he is an interesting commentator on the videos.

Maybe it's only the ridiculously difficult games that you'll never actually play through yourself that are interesting.

Yeah I was gonna say the IWBTG one was good, but Lets plays are in general just so boring. Especially jRPGs...I can't even make myself watch these to see if they are any good

RPG video LPs are terrible. It doesn't hurt to use screens and only record boss fights and the occasional FMV/cutscene.
It doesn't help that most of the commentary seems to be recorded during allergy season on a nerd colony.

I've gotta say I watch some of DeceasedCrab's videos, but yeah, he's pretty much the only one I could ever bear to watch.
And even then, things he says can sometimes get so nerdy it makes me cringe.

Yea I watched some of these too because it's a really hard game and I got stuck a lot but I really can't say I'm all that interested in these things in general.

When it comes to LPs there are 4 I watch, DeceasedCrab, MadamLuna, ProtonJon and AzureBlade, and other random ones I watch. Out of all of them tho', DC is probably the best, due to the large difference in games that he plays.
I agree most LPs are pretty boring, but some of them are good, especially when the commentary is done right, or the game is a fairly short one.

Like alot of other people I only watch them for games like IWTBTG that I would otherwise quit.
The only exception are retsuprae videos. While they aren't worth watching on their own, they do introduce me to hilariously bad LP videos like this one which makes them legitimately entertaining for me.

I rarely watch Let's Play videos... But I guess if I can't find a video walkthrough I would watch it!

That's really all it is, a video walkthrough with commentary. I show all the treasure chests, hidden passages, Blue Magic, give strategies, go through side-quests, etc.

Why would I watch someone play Final Fantasy V for hours and hours. I mean, Let's Play is interesting when it's a crazy game like Battletoads or Ghouls and Ghosts or whatever, but watching someone play an RPG just sounds terrible!

Why not? It's a 'video walkthrough' of a game from the most well known and most played rpg series of all time on any format...why would we watch? Anyone who is interested in FF5 has played it. As people have said these things are only interesting if you play random obscure games/really challenging games that other people wouldn't otherwise be able to beat. The only way to be interesting is to play one of these sorts of games, or have a 'gimmick'.

Watching "Lets Plays" of popular games can also be entertaining. I myself like to see how other people do stuff and what are their gaming habits. It's not that much about watching the game, but the gamer instead.

Ok, well there are some people who like to watch these things believe it or not, but if you were to search on YouTube you would find videos of many RPGs like FF5 with a lot of views and subscribers.

I read that already, but thanks for making such a hilarious joke, I'm sure your commentary on games must be fantastic.
Not only was I talking about Lets Plays in general, but there are way more boring bits than just random battles. The problem is that you have 20-something ten minute videos--you have several, several hours of just gameplay footage. The GameCenter CX SPECIALS (not even regular length episodes) were at most an hour (I feel like they were shorter than this), featured only the important moments of the gameplay, and had things inbetween the gameplay to break it up some. It's really, really tedious to watch someone play video games that long, whether they have snappy commentary or not. They still tell the story of playing through a game, with everything interesting left in, and do a damn good job because they edit it in a way that you're not missing out on anything while still avoiding sitting through tons and tons of footage. Instead of showing someone losing a level over and over by showing the entire level playthrough each and every time, they just show a few clips of the actual losing moment with a bit of a voice over about it. The problem is that Lets Plays almost always end up being closer to raw footage than a finished product, and it makes them really boring to watch.

Yeah I watch some Let's Plays when I know the people doing them are funny or I never played the game being done, but I never watch ones on youtube(expect for the La-Mulana one). Those are almost always bad.

Also, the fact they're "all bad" on youtube is that since there's SO MANY and the lame : cool ratio is of 300 : 1, you have more chances of finding antisocial obese 13 year olds playing ff8 while commenting with their mic inside their fat chunky mouths than finding a decent playthrough of a fun/unusual/fuckhard game.
Where else do you watch these things anyway?

Theres quite a few vid sites that they are on, mostly youtube, but some people use Viddler and other ones like that.
I usually go to the SomethingAwful forums to check out the LP threads there, when it's not denying visitors and forcing people to make accounts >.>

I think these Let's Play videos are pretty useful if you are too lazy to actually download something, but like 60% of them are made by antisocial shut-ins so more often than not will you hear shit like sexual innuendos directed at in-game babes, or 'whazzup homie' as soon as a black person comes on screen. This makes them sort of unbearable to watch.

seriously I've never seen a lets play video that was actually entertaining in terms of commentary. at best they are competent in describing what is going on.

some of deceasedcrab's ones are pretty funny
but, then, that relies on what you find funny, so yeah.
edit: and this one i saw of some guy with a really weird accent playing an insane mario 1 hack was hilarious

thats not a lets play though, he just dubbed over the original video which didnt have sound.
i watch some of protonjon's stuff because he does a lot of mario hacks which are some of the only fun Lets Plays to watch and he provides pretty decent commentary jokes etc

I recommened doing LP's of short games. Like Megaman, Sonic, Super Mario etc. Long RPG let's plays with commentary can get incredibly tiring. X_X;

The only LPs I saw that were really good were the Ouendan ones by someone whose name I forgot. He basically dubbed the intros, and then he switched over to text. Which worked out really well.

I'd maybe like to do one where I ramble on about something totally unrelated to what is happening onscreen but probably more interesting, except every now and I would shout "Level up! Nice."

Haha Jaymonius, I do watch some of the other ones. I enjoyed watchng the SSBB ones on ProtonJon's channel, god they are hilarious, especially GENECOLOGY STAB!
I wish I had the ability to record on my laptop with commentary, unfortunately some dicks thought it would be music-friendly to start removing stereo mix, unfortunately they failed and forgot that there are programs that can replace it. Unfortunately I haven't worked out how to use VAC and the normal Mic at the same time, it's probably really simple lol.
EDIT: Shining Soul then? ANd I don't mean the second, that one doesn't seem to do quick leveling, but the first does. However I guess u'd get bored after a while, like I am getting annoyed at the 4th dungeon, it's tooooo long >.<

LPs are only good if they have any combination of hilarious commentary, a hilarious game or a ridiculously difficult game. you fail on all counts + nerdvoice.

I just got this cool idea of collaborative let's play! It'd be kinda like a chain gaming but instead everyone gets 10 minutes (youtube maximum?) to play from where the previous player ended and do LP commentary throughout that 10mins... that'd be pretty awesome, imo.

My all time favorite would have to be the Phantasmagoria 2 LP that was done with a MST3K style commentary (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E0DF9EFB88DD5784).
To be fair Phantasmagoria 2 is like HALFWAY A MOVIE so it's kind of different than playing some long-ass RPG. In fact I watched a playthrough of Phantasmagoria 2 at some point just because I couldn't find a download for it and since I was mostly watching it FOR the movie parts then it wasn't much different than playing it.
