Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garth_Marenghi%27s_Darkplace)
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is a comedy series made for Channel 4 by Matthew Holness and Richard Ayoade. Following on from the characters' success at The Perrier Awards the show revolves around fictional horror author Garth Marenghi (played by Holness) and his publisher Dean Learner (played by Ayoade).
Darkplace is presented as a lost classic: a series produced in the 1980s, yet never shown until now. Subsequently, it features 'present day' commentary from many of the "original" cast, where characters such as "Marenghi" and "Learner" reflect on making the show. Darkplace parodies numerous aspects of 80s low-budget television, including fashion, special effects and music.
Hey, has anyone seen this? I just watched all six episodes in the past few days and thought it was pretty good. It is a fake 80's HOSPITAL HORROR series, or something. It pulls off the 80's style shitty TV show really well, especially with the dialogue, cliche reflection scenes, music and sound effects and camerawork.
Anyone know of any other parody shows remotely similar to this they can recommend?

Yeah I haven't watched this in a while but aside from a few too obvious jokes here and there I remember it being mostly pretty funny. I don't really know anything like it, though.
-
I think drule had an episode favorited on youtube a while ago and I watched it, I remember some of it was good. should I watch all of it? let me know guys, let mw know
-
i usually hate posts like this but DAMN son i know this exact topic cropped up like a year ago when this was being rebroadcast on adultswim. ya late...
drule's the number 1 fan of this show but idk i never got as into it as he or my friends. there's some spinoff with one of the characters as i recall that isn't as good, a parody talk show.

yeah, i searched forums and didnt find anything. the search function is terrible
also earl. Episodes 1, 2, and 6 are the best imo. 3, 4, and 5 are OK (although I've only seen those once). I'd recommend watching all the eps, though.

I liked this a lot when it was shown here. Probably the most quoted show by me and my similarly unfunny friends back at school
-
haha I havent seen this in years and never noticed that Steven Merchant had a cameo in this
-
I think it was Velfarre that pointed this show out to me several years ago. Wasn't it shown on Sci Fi channel then?
-
I really don't like this show much, but if I force myself to sit through it, there are really funny moments that take me surprise.
-
are these the guys from the IT crew?
-
really enjoyed this whole series, particularly thornton reed/dean learner whos intentionally terrible acting made it fantastic
-
I watched the last episode again a couple of nights ago. It stank, mostly, apart from a few good bits but the bad bits were even kind of ugly so it was hard to enjoy the good.

I noticed the black hospital manager in The Mighty Boosh. Are the Boosh guys in any way affiliated with this? Boosh is pretty damn funny, btw.
-
I thought that the Look Around You guys did The Mighty Boosh. I've only seen the Eyechild episode, the Apes episode, and the Scottish episode. They were all pretty good.

Hmm. I thought I saw an advert for Mighty Boosh on Adult Swim and it said it was made by them, but I guess I was thinking of this "As of 2008[update], Serafinowicz and Popper are working on a new television series for Adult Swim, as well as a website, based on a spoof religion "Tarvuism".[2]" http://www.tarvu.com/
