Title: Info on John Whitgift
Post by: DoctorEars on April 24, 2009, 03:26:11 am
Ok, I am in need of some help for a History assignment on Tuesday, where I have to roleplay as John Whitgift. He was an important member of Elizabethan England, and I only know a few details about him.

Was just wondering if any of you dudes knew much about John Whitgift, in terms of things he did, positions he was in, etc. Just important facts and details about him, so that I can roleplay as this guy and at least pass the assignment.

If you could help me with this, that'd be great.

Cheers,

The Doc.

I thought I might get a little more help/maturity but I guess that was a little too much to expect. Nevermind that though.

oh come on dude you asked about a fucking british archbishop on GAMINGWORLD FORUMS how are you possibly expecting anything but wikipedia links.

why what a surprise! it turns out Lyndon has an encyclopediac knowledge of obscure british religious figures absolutely no one care about!

it's not even a case like he's a slightly obscure historical figure that GW might not know about because of cultural/geographical reasons like idk Trujillo or John Winthrop, this guy didn't even do shit. his wikipedia legacy section opens with a fucking physical description from his own biographer.

seriously you can be upset you didn't get the info you needed but lol how are two different people giving FlowerPower shit for this.

Your teacher really fucked you on this one.  You should just play this wacky Kramer-esque character (slide through the door, cue laugh track) and talk about your genious new plan to really STICK IT to those filthy Puritans.

try and find a film where he or a similar archbishop of his time period is a character. Watch the movie, learn his mannerisms and ARCHBISHOP-isms. Idk maybe just watch the crucible or something

I've heard of him but I'm afraid I don't know too much about him, other than that he made life difficult for the Puritans, and his position in power combined with his opinion made life very difficult for them.

However here's a book that looks like a promising source (google has it scanned her http://books.google.com/books?id=fti4aQKAbRsC&printsec=titlepage&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0

Also, getting a subscription to something like Jstor ( http://www.jstor.org ) would help you out a lot so you could do keyword searches in articles. It's worth checking out, but check first if your school already has an automatic subscription since most do. (If you're in high school, then you'll probably have to get it yourself).

Hope that helped. Good luck.

Just act however you want to and then if your teacher complains just say "WELL, YOU NEVER MET HIM EITHER SO HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?"
