you should prob. switch back to computer science if you don't want to end up waiting tables or working retail

You know, I spent a dozen or so minutes flabbergasted and unable to come up with a straight-forward response, but you should probably realize that life isn't that straight forward. I really don't know what to tell you. I have many peers with successful careers in the field and many that don't. If it doesn't work out, oh well. At least I'd have gotten something out of it, and more I can exploit if things go wrong. Sure, it's easy to say now but I'd rather work tables instead of spending five-years and thousands of hours doing something that has completely fucked with my mental health.

I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that positive results will come as long as you work hard. I've had shit go down for hopeless years on end only to receive pay-offs years later that make me go, "that would have never happened if not for [xyz]."

So yeah, I feel like throwing a curse word or two frankly.

I appreciate the care and such, just thought I'd take a minute to wrap things up.

I felt that I spent too much time talking to random people on the internet due to warped social circumstances and wasted high school, and wanted to make what I could out of my university. It was a gradual process, but the real kicker was when I realized that my super-awkward-stage persona was being taken advantage of for such an extensive period of time, and had reached an unacceptable point that shut me off without any effort. It's a two way thing of course, but being thrown "you killed steel" and whatever ain't good.

Basically, I don't feel as comfortable conversing with random people online. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of decent people on the internet (IE fatty) and I hate to sound like some kid who just passed puberty and don't like power rangers anymore. I'm probably the same guy, just think a bit differently. Many of the "big arguments" I am still adamant about.

Tons of guys here who have thrown me a message or two over the past two years assume that I am/was a film student. I have never been a film student, nor are my parents overbearing. I asked for advice choosing a university/major when I was confused, was given bad advice and after a year of computer science BS I made the best of it - switched to photojournalism a couple of weeks after buying a DSLR, seeing a guest lecture and talking to the pulitzer prize winning chairman. Just recently switched mindsets as a photographer with film as a supplement as opposed to the other-way around.

More things:
I am not screwed with loans
bub_from_the_pit: My IM client said that you didn't have me added as a friend, and I figured that I was probably more of a nuisance than anything. Regardless, I want to buy a print off you some other time.
Bobberticus: Thanks for the love
Fatty: Sorry for being a dick, thanks alot much appreciated.

Yeah, long post. I write too many block paragraphs. This is just an internet forum or w/e but the least I can do is write some shit when people are speculating about stuff that can be cleared up in a couple of minutes.

I don't know how a desktop means you live in your parents basement. I'm just saying you can get a way better price with more performance if it wasn't a laptop.
I want a macbook and I don't want to have to purchase both a laptop and desktop

I don't know, they're about as customizable as any other laptop: A handful of i7 and i5 processors, 4-8GB of RAM, a few different HDD/SSD sizes, 3 different GPU options and screen sizes, glossy or matte screen... What other specifications would you want to customize in a laptop?
I don't see any options for processors and video cards without choosing a different base configuration or screen size, but I guess that is kind of irrelevant.

I'll probably end up installing the ram myself, but that would void the warranty right? I'm kind of keen to heaving my electronics break despite my being careful.

Thanks for the helpful response, I'll probably end up getting a Mac, probably a 15in. Unlike PC's, the specs don't seem too customizable. I'm assuming a 2.0ghz quad-core w/ 4gb is much better than what I have now, but if an extra 8gb of ram worth an additional $200?

The small screen size and resolution won't be an issue since I'm using an external monitor anyway..

I quit the internet, but I thought I'd come back a bit since everyone here since I need some tech help.

I've had this laptop for about two years, an 18" HP HDX laptop. Kind of regretted the purchase since it's not portable at all - heavy, clunky, won't fit in a backpack etc. The ink on the keys has smudged to hell and the left mouse button doesn't work anymore. It's basically falling apart. Not too bad though, it pretty much does everything I want it to do and it never leaves the room. As far as video goes, it runs raw DSLR footage near flawlessly without any image post-processing.

I need a new laptop though, one that's more portable and solid for video editing - also for photos too but pretty much everything can handle 15mp anyway. I was thinking about the new Macbooks since they're obviously constructed solid and are easy to carry around and color management being much easier to handle and all that. Seriously, I have no idea why working with color is so goddman awful on PC. But, for the $2k USD that it'll take to buy one of those, I could get a Windows laptop has better specs... that and 5/6 of my externals/backups are NTFS formatted.

Basically, I need some recommendations for a laptop that will cost less than $1.5k USD that runs on Windows, with the solid construction and portability of a Macbook. I know that description has been thrown around way too many times and is more of a dream or a Dr. Dre laptop, but I basically know nothing about hardware nowadays.

Current specs:
Intel core 2 duo p8800 2.66ghz
4gb ram
Geforce 9600M GT

EDIT:
I have no idea if Dr. Dre laptops are any good, but if they fit what i'm looking for, let me know.

I don't do this website anymore, but I have a crapper-ton of gift cards that I have no idea what to do with.

$465 at target.
$325 prepaid giftcards.
$65 at Kohls.
$20 to walmart.

I don't want to just waste this stuff on electronics, I want to like, buy useful stuff and purchases I won't regret. I know I'm going to buy an ipod classic at, something which burns my heart because it's so expensive. At kohls I'll buy some boots and converse, prob some other clothes too. And half the prepaid cards buying clothes.

I went to a Christian private school for 5 years of my life. As a result, I don't have many friends back home because they are either

1) Dumb Italian kids who lived 40 minutes who wear fitted caps and act like idiots at clubs.

2) I'm a devil among the religious.

After attending "chapel" for 45 minutes every week, and skimming a few pages of the first chapter. I'm 100% sure this is real. I mean I've seen books being sold at retreats and shit about how Star Wars promotes and holds various Christian themes.

This kind of thing doesn't surprise me man.

inception would have been better with ellen paiges character written out. not that i don't like ellen paige, i do, but the character just shouldn't have been there.

also, i saw the expendables. and it was a lot of fun, i don't know what you're talking about. loved it.
The character had to be there as an entry point for the audience into the world of Inception. This ain't Lost where they can throw up an instructional video and have Dr Pierre Chang talk about how all this shit works.

forget all that, what you need is to hit the gym on campus and drink this. Eating fast food would be a lot more unhealthy and expensive if you're trying to put on good weight.
Why the hell didn't anyone tell me this shit existed before??

I already said that I always eat pasta and vegetables.

And I don't eat microwaved mac and cheese. I don't eat microwaved anything at the moment, but once I head back to school I might eat a hungry man one too many times.

*posts in drug thread* no man he's in college he's not gonna listen to that shit. it's good advice obviously but any student who eats healthy all the time and doesn't have a meal plan needs a more difficult major

pb http://www.bagelbites.com/pepperoni.aspx yeah they're not good for you but they're not like http://www.coheso.com/nutridata/Totinos/Party_Pizza_Pepperoni/item_details.html
Nah I eat pretty healthy but the thing is I'm really thin, I eat veggies and fruit ALL THE TIME, but that's gotta make me skinny as hell
