No, I'm not going to whine and play victim. I just don't get why it was such a big deal.

What I don't like about portishead is mostly in mixing, composition, and structure. Certain parts of it aren't mixed to a way that is pleasing to my ears. What I hear has potential to be decent music, but there are parts in the mix that aren't brought out well. While I believe repetition in music is useful and natural, there comes a point where it can be unlistenable to the way my ears are trained. Yes, I know what you're thinking "Well, you just don't get it. You're used to what the radio feeds you as correct." Fine, its an acquired taste then. But what I hear is more generic, pretentious art music. And yeah, Chinese Democracy is considered just another generic album, but I like it for the chord structure, use of dissonance, and transitions.

I don't know a lot of bands, I'll admit that. While I'm all for listening to new music,  I just don't see the point in going out and finding bands just for the sole purpose of expanding my musical taste or encyclopedic knowledge.

It is. I wasn't being sarcastic. I don't know anything about music as I've obviously just learned.

See, I don't even think I would go out to see a Kanye concert to begin with. I wouldn't even see a GNR concert. These are both atypical choices in music for me. Its not like I just sit around listening to old 80s hair bands or nu-metal or Lil' Wayne or anything. I don't listen to the radio (not that there's anything wrong with the people who do) and I don't go and look for an album just because it was on Pitchfork's or Rolling Stone's or Billboard's list of top albums.

I like indie music, but I don't like every crappy indie band I hear.

I mean, I find Portishead's music absolutely horrible, but I'm not a big name on the internet, so I can't say anything about it. I also must not understand them and have crappy taste in music because I dislike them. I guess I just can't win on the internet.

you know what? You're right. I'm a terrible person. I only liked one album this year that was considered by pretty much everyone to be a great failure. The other album I liked this year was Kanye West (LOL). I should've downloaded way more albums than I had. I have no excuse. Especially not for liking two albums way out of my comfort zone.

I'm sorry that I don't live up to such high standards and that I have such terrible music taste. I shouldn't even be allowed to post here.

You win. I give.

I don't need anyone to apologize to me. I can see where he thought it was a troll now. I don't read music reviews.

I haven't heard a lot from 08. it was my graduating year of high school, and I didn't really have a lot of time for listening to music or finding new music. Any new music I found was released a few years ago. I listened to parts of Kings Of Leon's new album, and didn't really like most of it, but listened to their first album and enjoyed much more. It was also my first quarter of college, so I didn't have much time their either.

I liked chinese democracy from a compositional standpoint. I know I'm going to get bombarded with "all that stuff has been done before" but structurally it was refreshing from what I HAD heard recently, which, like I just mentioned, wasn't a lot this year.

Sigh, yeah, I know it got bad reviews. I have my reasons for liking it. Also, I know the 808 is used a lot. I guess I should've specified that it was the WAY he used it in some songs. It wasn't a big year in music for me. I listen to a lot of music, so don't get the idea that I have extremely bad taste in music just because I liked one low scoring album.

Wait... I wasn't trolling, but I think I'll get flamed if I say otherwise now... 'cause, you know, I liked an album everyone else didn't like. Funny, huh? I must be a troll.

Not to be the antithesis of everything, but I honestly didn't remember a lot of 2008. I had really only one album I listened to the whole year practically and that was released in like, '99 or something. I actually liked kanye's newest album. The 808 was a nice sound that I wasn't used to hearing. I've always liked his backing tracks. I also really enjoyed chinese democracy. I know that most people's opinion is "needs moar slash LOL" but it had a nice layered sound and axl showed off a pretty decent range in writing and singing throughout the whole thing. I never listened to anything off of Narrow Stairs but the singles, which isn't like me, but I enjoyed those, just not enough to get the album.

2008 was actually kind of weird for me. I didn't really get into any full albums (other than Chinese Democracy) but I ended up liking things I normally wouldn't care for. I guess I'll just leave it at that.

That's why I was so happy with anything chrono trigger related. See, there was that whole "square will only release mainstream stuff" thing awhile back. And if this becomes popular with a new generation, or just hits home with the fanboys, then maybe they'll work their way up to a sequel.

It'd be stupid if they released a sequel now. Yes, I'd be happy, and so would a lot of other people. but honestly... how many people do you think would actually buy it having never heard of the game?

With this, there's hope for the restart of popularity for the game outside of the obvious fanboys (myself included).

I was gonna post this. Fuck you.

Anyways... CHRONO TRIGGER. We're not talking about any particular game here. It's fucking CHRONO TRIGGER.

Chrono Trigger is THE RPG. End of story.

hahahah. Yeah, i was kind of expecting that. It surprised me when I was about to post this that no one else had yet.

According to what I could figure out from the japanese website, its 20080707. from what I gather, that's probably when its coming out there. I don't know how long it'll take them to translate.

Well, while I would've liked a full remake of it, I'm actually glad they didn't. While I love my DS a lot, I really don't think the graphics would look that great in 3d on there. I'm sure they're at least going to touch it up with new colors or something. at least make it look better. I loved the 2d on there to begin with, so I'm not affected if it isn't.

Ok, so my brother just today sent us this link (he lives in california and is usually more up on this stuff than I am).
My other brother (the one who lives at home with us) told me to come check out this picture. I looked at the first one, and he said he didn't know what to make of it. Then I pointed out the letters "DS" on.

A smile broke out on my face. I did a quick google search. found the same picture... and a link to the square enix website.

I think I almost cried. Thank you merciful square enix!

I seriously hope this is not some cruel joke or something. And I swear, if Square-enix of america does not translate this, I will be utterly pissed and lose all faith in America. I don't care if I can't speak japanese. I'm gonna order it if it doesn't come here.

You know, I was just about to not post, but I decided I will. its the internet. if I get flamed for what I'm about to post, then so be it.

I'm Mormon. I grew up mormon and I still am. BUT, what separates me from a lot of people is that my parents are very openminded. they're both centrists, so am I, so a lot of the stuff I have is the way I was raised. I don't necessarily blame religion, and thank it because a lot of the times I'm a lot better off. Yeah, I've been asked about a million different questions... and the truth is I only wish church where that interesting. a lot of it is extremely dry compared to other churches. there's no rock band. we have an organist and a piano. there's no speaking of tongues. there's no casting off of evil spirits by hitting people on the head. we bless people for that stuff but its a lot less interesting than it sounds. Yeah, I know. I've dealt with as much people telling me I'm going to hell or I'm stupid... but not from my own church. most of the people telling me I'm going to hell are people who consider themselves good christians.

In my general religious point of views: I don't really think a lot of people are going to hell. Actually I think most people have a lot of chances. What I've learned at church is that even when you die, and even if you've done things that may be considered "wrong" you still have more chances. yes, there's a lot of confusion about what's in the bible. things contradict. we all know that. but its how you interpret what everything really means. if you take it literally, then things are going to be a lot worse off.

Because my parents were generally openminded people, I too am an openminded person. I used to get harrased a lot by other kids until I told them that I respected them in there choices. I don't write people off immediately as bad people if they're not religious or don't have the same religion as me. It just doesn't feel right to me. There's good in everyone. Many of my friends have a vague belief in a God or some of them even don't. I actually didn't for the longest while because well, frankly, junior high sucked. I did a lot of stuff that really wasn't the greatest for me in the long run.

Yeah. the world is a terrible place. I don't really blame god for that. I know, that's going to make people hate this point of view even more. I think its understandable that people might think that, but I really don't. People are here. Some are good, some not too great. Most of it all comes from some sort of misunderstanding. how to explain the weather? well, there's obviously science to explain that. Yeah, I believe that god controls the skies and whatever, but I don't think he's literally moving it with his hand.

I believe in modern medicine (as most of my church does/should), and I'm sad when people die (people have told me that they think religion is stupid because they're not out their finding cures or mourning the death of people. I felt that was to claim I wasn't human.) I want these diseases cured as much as the next person. I cry when a family member dies. Just because I believe that they're going to a better place doesn't mean I'm not going to miss them.

Well, when I read this, I immediately thought of rolling stone magazine. Every single one of their political articles are basically the same thing over and over "screw bush. its his fault". and every musician they laud? same sort of thing. ultra-political message. I recall a recent interview with the guy from coldplay, and they seemed to try to FORCE a political message out of the guy. I'm starting to feel like that's what its becoming. They don't necessarily have a responsibility (like the topic questions)... they just feel like they do.

I personally hate this sort of stuff. It ruins what could potentially be a decent band. and it really seems like its just fueling the young tender minds of the children who listen to it. it has a catchy beat, so yeah, kids are gonna listen to it. its on mainstream pop stations, so the kids are probably gonna listen to it. you know, its this sort of stuff that supposedly wants people to put down closeminded thinking.

What someone else mentioned is that's been overdone. the sad thing is... they still think they're edgy and cool. and so do a lot of the youth. They think its better because they aren't talking about girls or relationships or something. I seriously think that this is becoming the new "my-girlfriend-broke-up-with-me" music. its whats in right now. maybe if we believe real hard, it'll go back to being decent to listen to again.

another sad part is, it seems really tacked on. Its like adding a gay character or something to a tv show. it just doesn't fit. When I write, it generally isn't political (I'm in the middle when it comes to that stuff).

I'll probably be on here at night (in washington). I'm usually doing something during the day.

Maybe you should read all the posts again........ pal. And they are shoegaze.

oh. my bad. I actually did a semi-quick scan of the page and didn't see that.

I've always considered them shoeqaze, but I've read up on stuff and a lot of people don't considered traditional shoegaze for some reason.

I was kind of surprised no one mentioned Swervedriver, but from what I've heard, its mostly been mixed as to whether or not they're actually considered Shoegazer.

It also really surprised me to hear about this genre here. Most of my friends made fun of me for listening to it (mostly cause they'd never heard it and they thought the name Dinosaur Jr. was stupid) Dinosaur Jr. used to be my number one favorite band of all time. I picked up a lot of my guitar technique from listening to them.

Well, I'm glad to see people remember me! Yes. I had flav-a-flav as a picture... I think that was back in 9th grade when I thought it was the funniest thing in the world. I've worked out a lot of the kinks in my personality and sense of humor. I think I used to go here because, well, junior high sucks (lets face it, it does when you're a nerd... or just about anyone). But then high school was really good, and now that that's over... I needed something to do. And now that I'm older, I might get some more of the jokes around here... maybe.

Oh. The filipino women thing is mostly a joke. I usually tell people that that's one of my interest because A. it kind of is B. but not to the point of crazy obsession.

Hey. I've been gone forever. The last time I was here, there was still a website... but it wasn't doing much.

I don't think anyone really remembers me, so allow me to introduce myself:

Hi. My name is fatcatx2l (well, not really. I made the name when I was 8 and its easy to remember. most people don't have numbers in their names either). I made this account when I was 14. I'm now 18. I write music and play the guitar, piano, bass, trumpet, and I've been getting better at singing.

My interest are: indie rock, filipino women, writing music, talking about music, and doing whatever's on my mind at the time.

I grew a spine over the past several years. I used to be a pushover for women. I wrote one a song once. she didn't deserve it. I told her she didn't deserve. life is good.

I'm going to community college in september, and that will be a year. then I'm going off to some foreign country for awhile. So, enjoy me while I'm here.
